Thanks so much! He'll probably just be using portable fans. We also have a portable evaporative cooler that will be nice during the hot & dry part of summer. 🌞

Kudos to you both! I wish I were able to undertake a project in a place like you have done. Finances and health currently do not allow me to do this. But I am going to live vicariously through y’all!
Congratulations on your well built structure. Over the last 10 years I built my own 40x60 shop in similar fashion. Along the way I encountered many of the same challenges you did. I even produced my own TH-cam called "How I built my pole barn shop" with six parts. Using salvaged scrounged metal and wood saved a fair amount of money. Watching you work through each phase brought back many happy memories. Well done.
Much respect to the amount of work. This an example of why you have the have and the have nots. Most people would not have put in the work, sacrifices and investment.
April is a jewel! You guys make a wonderful team. Cool barn build. It should last two lifetimes. Look forward to more projects n updates. Cheers from Houston, TX🤘🏾 🤠
Great job on the building process and the videography. I couldn’t stop watching because the video and voice overs were so well done. Now you have a good enclosed space for your future projects.
I've worked in the cement industry for 45 years. You really should have had reinforcement in the concrete and expansion material between the 4 pads. I would suggest you put saw cuts across the floor where the pad joints were, about 80% depth, so that when the concrete wants to crack and move you have some control over where it happens. You can fill the saw cuts with something flexible if you want.
Because concrete expands and contracts thermally almost as much as steel. Maybe where this is, may have a temperature difference of up to 50 degrees centigrade in 12 hours. so without an internal skeleton structure it will soon form stress fractures and small cracks dont stay small if there is nothing holding it together. however lets hope 4 small 6 inch slabs will be fine. @@baratmalli6413
If you have a chance take a jackhammer to concrete with steel mesh , rebar , fiber mesh, and then no reinforcing at all . The reason will become very apparent . @@J297WFD
@@J297WFD I missed any mention of fibermesh. No need to get snarky. Also fiber is added for specific purposes which does not include replacing rebar for heavy traffic sustainability.
Thanks! It took about 5 weeks to complete, working on it about 8 hours a day. He worked on it pretty much full time, during the 5 weeks, but did take a few days off to do other things.
Very informative and interesting. Also one can not help but to notice all the work and planning that went into this shop. Yes I am also jealous. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Truly a pleasure to watch! you are both blessed to be able to work together and accomplish what you have! You are truly a craftsman in using what you "got" and its application. April is priceless in helping as needed thruout the build and the filming! May God Bless You two!!
Great informative video. I really like your practical knowledge and approach to building things and reusing materials. Amazing that the entire structure was about $17k!
Red and April, thanks for your barn build video, I love everything about it. I just bought some land in Texas and plan to build a container barn. There were some many little details that will be very helpful to me, I learned a lot. I have a couple of questions. It gets hot in Arizona, like Texas. Do you find it hot in the shop in the heat of the summer, I mean unbearably hot? Do the containers get hot enough to cause problems with the materials stored in them? I am anticipating that as a problem in central Texas and several friends who build conventional barns have put insulation in the ceiling to help reduce the radient heat. I am not sure insulation will be necessary. What has been your experience in that area? Do you have a video of how you built the foundational supports for the containers? I would really like to know how you did that. How deep did you go with the blocks and what were the footer dimensions? Any problems with shifting? I was thinking about using railroad ties but I like your concrete block approach better. My soil is different than yours but I would like to know what you did as starting point. I need to start scrounging some materials so I can keep the cost down. thanks again for sharing your experience with us and a special thanks to April for the excellent videography.
Glad it was helpful! We love the structure and it has worked out really well for us. We cut out floor vents and an upper vent in each container, and the white exterior paint helps keep them cooler. The containers stay about the same temperature inside as the ambient outside temperature. In June and July we have some days over 100°F but we aren't as hot as central Arizona. We insulated the solar room with 4 inches of rigid foam board, and nothing in the containers have been damaged from the heat. It's typically pretty dry here, and the nights cool down, so the mornings are nice and it's bearable mid-day with a fan. Insulation is always nice, but we didn't want to spend the money. We cleared the spot and just set the containers on blocks on the ground. We also cemented some treated lumber in the ground and attached the containers to them. The soil is cliche, and our frost line is 0" so the ground is very stable and we haven't had much settling. Texas is a bit different than here. Hope your build goes well, best wishes!
Thank you both! This was a pleasure to watch . Did you have any experience putting up metal buildings? Great job! It's nice to see Some people going through the same extreme technical work For a quality job. Great filming and editing April!
We have used sheet metal on a few shed roofs in the past. We like that it's low maintenance and fireproof. We used it on everything we built out here: our well house, home, and shop. Appreciate it, thanks for watching! 😊

I am so happy to have found you again. I followed you, what seems like years ago on the other channel, on your journey to your off grid space. Then you disappeared. Random 'sheet metal' search brought this up. This long video is very well done. The best video on TH-cam showing every detail of the build using shipping containers. Well done Red and April.
Its beautiful, I love it! Love how you two work together. I have in mind that I would like to build something like this. Thanks for the ideas and for a video that is easy to follow.
I know this comment is a bit late but I saw you struggling with those drill bits and thought I’ll let you know a secret we pros use . Astro USA makes the best drill bits money can buy. They are by a long margin the most amazing bits you can buy. Nice job on this build.
A tip for bending rod. Use a piece of pipe over the rod. Even if it is not as long as the rod it will support and reinforce the rod next to the bend. This takes the curve out and makes it more square. Caution: a tight square bend makes the rod weaker in that bend significantly. So use a gentle bend if using the rod for reinforcement, like in concrete.
Thanks for sharing this epic milestone in your Arizona journey. You have a magnificent shop that should last your lifetime and beyond. Will you be adding spray foam to the underside of the roof and end panels to insulate and increase structural rigidity.? Since you do not have any wire reinforcements in your slab concrete you may want to consider adding a metal sleeve in the floor rebar holes to distribute forces from the door bolts. If you have a spare foot of 3/4” pipe that could be cut into two 6” lengths (preferably 45° diagonal to facilitate pounding into the ground) and inserted into slightly larger floor holes leaving rebar touching pipe rather than concrete. The extra inch or two below the concrete should solidify the rebar channel to maintain vertical without deforming and cracking the concrete. Steel pipe would be best as a galvanic reaction could occur between steel rebar and copper. April, it was great seeing you with your grand dog tending plants in your yard and garden. Will you be keeping the motor home or posting to on marketplace? It’s probably in shock now that it has left shade. Wishing you, Red and your family a blessed thanksgiving season. Peaceful wishes from the southern shore of the Great Swamp Erie in NE Ohio.

He's self taught, and we have done a lot of crazy projects throughout the years. Back when you had to figure out how to do things without the Internet. We also had to get really creative because we didn't have much money or tools. Lots of trailer house remodels, additions, etc... and eventually moving on to bigger things. Thanks! 😊
We still plan to post videos occasionally, and maybe even show some of Red's wood and metal projects or machine restores. Maybe eventually another one of our kids will be building a house out here too. 🧡🏜️
Excellent video , start to finish! I'm constructing a garage with 20 ft containers this comming summer, in heavy snow country- needless to say, requirements are more severe!
Thumbs up! A little trick when drilling for those who don't know is. drill a pilot hole first. The pilot hole size should be the same size as the tip of your final drill bit. When I say the tip I mean where the two edges meet on the drill bit. It will drill like butter after if your drill bit is sharp. Edit: Wrote my comment before seeing you drill the pilot hole. hehehe
This has given me some good ideas for taking care of some of the things I want to do on my homestead property. Now that I see how to get what I want with less time and work. Very helpful. Thank you for the podcast. 👍👍

I really appreciate your sharing your reasoning with us as you build. You have such a large work space now. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome! He is definitely enjoying the space! 😊
Incredible shop and video documenting the build process. Impressive, detailed planning and execution. I really like how you build for function using what u find deals on or can scrap. That is my kind of barn. Thanks for sharing what u guys are doing. I like all the different things that u guys do.
Thanks so much!
Great video! Great Shop. Best example of sweat equity I have seen for a while. Congratulations.
Thank you! 😊
This is absolutely satisfied… great job
I make TH-cam videos now and really appreciate all the footage it took to do that project. Thanks for all the effort!😊
Yes, long videos are a ton of work! I had bronchitis the whole time I was working on it, so it gave me something to do, since I didn't feel like doing much else. 🤧😄 Thanks! 😊
Amazing Build, Great Family, Thanks
Spray foam and a few mini split AC units next ?
He'll just use fans, and possibly a portable evaporative cooler. If we ever insulate the shop, we will use rigid foam board.
Wow! That’s an amazing building! ❤❤❤
Thank you! Hope y'all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! ❤️❤️🦃

Very cool project! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Appreciate it, thanks for watching!
I have to say, you are quite the handy DIYer. You exude confidence and a great knowledge of building techniques.
He's self taught, and we have done a lot of crazy projects throughout the years. Back when you had to figure out how to do things without the Internet. We also had to get really creative because we didn't have much money or tools. Lots of trailer house remodels, additions, etc... and eventually moving on to bigger things. Thanks! 😊
Keep the u tube channel going. Enjoy your channel
Edit: Wrote my comment before seeing you drill the pilot hole. hehehe
Yes, you can see him pre-drilling with a smaller drill bit in a lot of the time lapse segments. We should have mentioned it in the video.
Those step drills work fast, maybe on thinner stock.
Really enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing, take care
that my friend is a Nice shop. good content and delivery (while progress is being made)Great
This has given me some good ideas for taking care of some of the things I want to do on my homestead property. Now that I see how to get what I want with less time and work. Very helpful. Thank you for the podcast. 👍👍

Thanks! 😊🏜️
I am hoping to someday build a barn like that someday. A step drill bit would help to cut the 1/2" holes in the angle iron.
Thank you for the great video. Plenty of information and well detailed. You sir are quite modest! Very admirable 😊 congratulations with this big move chapter of you and your families lives ! 👌 Very gratifying
Enjoyed watching the video from beginning to end.
