Cool little fact : loid started reading spy wars after he noticed Anya understood school concepts when related to her show, so he thought he could find a way to incorporate it into their lessons and to get closer to /understand her too. It's why in last ep you can see both of them reading a volume on the couch, and he had number 1 before Yuri came to visit. But then he really got into Spy Wars so when Yuri left and both Anya and Yor are deep asleep, Loid is already reading volume 12 of Spy Wars 😂

It still impresses me how perceptive Sheera is at times. She's one of the few people (not just reactors) I've seen who realized that Yuri isn't *actually* literally in love with his sister and in reality he's just very overprotective with her because of their background and how he feels indebted to her.

If you notice the "incestuous" acts never really went full incest it's like edging towards it but never actually went there (most of the time). Just like that character from Black Clover. This is just Japanese slapstick humor probably, tbh I'm not a big fan of that but well I can only hope they reduce the amount of it. This is probably why Demon Slayer was such breath of fresh air for a lot of international fans, seeing siblings that truly care and love each other in a healthy Normal way.

@@somethingawful100 nah, honestly, psychologically it makes sense. He is overprotective of her AND obsessed with her, but not romantically in love with her. I know it comes off as incestual, but obsession can look exactly like that. Like...most likely he would never want to kiss his sister, for example, or try to. But another man doing so in his place triggers that psychological need to be the only source of affection and makes him jealous. Its not WHAT she does, its what the act MEANS, which is her giving her affection to someone who isn't him. I think the author does a pretty decent job at capturing it.

It's fair to say that without proper parental figures in their lives Yuri's affection was focused solely on her sister, but without proper course correction a parent would provide in such a situation, this spark of affection grew into an unhealthy wildfire that would normally be found in Alabama
eh he does have a huge sister complex but I dont think it's necessarily immediately incest. He was the one who wanted Yor to find a nice guy after all, he just doesn't wanna see it bc it would mean changes and that he wouldn't be his sister's center of the world anymore. It's still unhealthy af tho
I stated in my own comment that I honestly don’t think Yuri wants a romantic relationship with Yor. If he really did I don’t think he would’ve pestered her about having a boyfriend. Plus we have to remember Yor is extremely gullible, she literally believes the ridiculous lies Loid made up about beating his patients, so it’s easy for Yuri to think that Yor will be taken by some terrible guy by force or something, since he doesn’t know she’s an assassin.

I just find him to be too overprotective, though it is understandable since Yor basically raised him, and he probably sees her more as a mother figure than just any regular sibling. She’s his only family member left, that’s why he’s so sensitive over Yor. And she’s gullible AF (like believing Loid beating patients up is normal), since Yuri doesn’t know Yor is an assassin, he probably thinks she’s gonna be tricked by some terrible asshole because she believes basically anything and everything.
Plus, coming from his POV, he didn’t formally meet or hear about Loid from Yor, and on paper+outsider’s POV, they’ve been married for a year, and to hear the news from his friend instead of his own sister is already shocking, and hard to accept for anyone. He didn’t hear anything about the kind of person Loid was either, not a single but of info aside from his friend Dominic’s observations. Normally I’m pretty sure you’d introduce your partner to your family some time before you get married lol 😂

Freud wrote extensively about the Oedipus complex (basically falling in "love" with the parent of opposite gender, the one for girls is called Electra complex), which is part of the normal development of children between 3-5, and Yuri seems to be around that age in the flashback. Freud deemed defeating the Oedipus complex one of the biggest social achievements of the human mind, and one of the origins of the "superego". Now, Yuri's childhood was pretty traumatic, and he still managed to defeat most of the Oedipus syndrome, but some parts seem to remain becouse of said traumas. Perhaps him telling Yor to get a boyfriend and such is done subconciously to truly defeat these remains. If it was intended to show this (and I can only hope it is not just the "japanese factor" acting up in the author), then I can only applaud, and cheer for Yuri to solve his problems.
Either way, it is rather pleasant (as it is so rare) that I can find a legit way to defend this stupid trope so beloved in Japan, as usually I just have to go back to the 'ol trusty ostrich politics;it is not there if I ignore it.
@@williamliberta7593 Well said! Normally this trope makes me freak out and like I want nothing to do with it, just hearing about it makes me cringe (take Tanizaki and Naomi in BSD for example. I love BSD but their relationship makes me want to scream into oblivion because it genuinely creeps me out)
But I think in Yuri’s case, it actually makes more sense, and I honestly don’t think he actually wants a romantic relationship with Yor, at least given how he is slowly warming up to Loid already, and that he is slightly convinced that Yor and Loid are a real couple.
I always feel that the reason Yuri is called a puppy by his bosses and colleagues is that he can play an adult well physically and at work. But according to the degree of his dependence and admiration for his sister, his mentality is still stuck in when he was a child who could only rely on his sister.
The way Roshi and Lupa said "YEAHHHHH" with much distress when the opening cut the kiss scene had me laughing. My bros really do be waiting earnestly 🤣🤣🤣🤚

I personally think Yuri's whole thing is more of a disapproving son seeing his mother remarry than a standard siscon.
The show implies Yuri and Yor grew up without their parents, thus, Yuri probably subconsciously sees Yor as a mother figure, and (seeing how capable Yor is as an assassin and as a sister) has insanely high expectations for her potential husband.
i don't think he's dumb. He doens't actually wants to be Yor's husband, he WANTS Yor to marry, he just wants to make sure the actual husband meets his standards (again, the jealousy of a kid meeting a step-dad more than a siscon.).

I do understand as I mean, I can kinda relate to Yuri for my childhood all I really had was my older sister and older brother. Unfortunately my brother was forced to move out with his dad against his will. Are mother was pretty shitty to this day so she wasn't around but I didn't develop any of these weird tendencys besides missing my sister maby too much when we were separated and no my mother never cared to explain anything reffering to love or anything nor did anyone else but I understood the different levels of love with basically no outside help even i aknowledged my weird attachment but I always aknowledged that it wasn't romantic love so I know what's it like to be attached

As much as I know people will hate on Yuri for his obnoxious siscon behavior and just the good ol childhood trope of "i wanna marry mom/sister" being annoying in general (I kinda hate it, too), at least for him he has justification. He and Yor never were able to properly grow up due to not having living parents around to teach them about important things, including marriage. They essentially never had a proper childhood much like with Loid. They don't have normal thinking processes like most people around.
Yor herself even considers Yuri rude and this segment was more or less intended to show out foolish Yuri was for letting his emotions get the best of him and not trusting in his sister to begin with. He idolizes her so much that it nearly made him ruin his sister's marriage, even if it's pretend.
In the end, he's at least just a character meant for the gags, and while I'm not against the argument that he could've just simply been an overprotective brother, I think he would've been far less interesting or entertaining, so to me he adds some positive value to the story and character dynamics, especially since his involvement here was practically a test for the Forgers.
I've seen someone else describe him more like a son who's angry that his mom remarried, which also fit in with Yor pretty much raising him. He wants her to be happy, but has impossible standards and also wants to be enough to make her happy by himself, is how I see him.

@@Ryuseishun Exactly. Anya doesn't like him initially because he has deep affection for his sister, but no where in the manga does it imply that he's sexually attracted to her. And later on they get along quite well, even if he gets super frustrated trying to teach her.

I think Loid finding out she's an assassin would be a big no no. Loid is a spy from an enemy country and are at the brink of war, he would be too paranoid and would likely cut ties with her immediately. Maybe they could still talk things out and be able to stay together but there will definitely be some mistrust from Loid
They might stay together if he finds out way later in the series where at that point they would probably be too into each other

The funny thing is, all three of them are technically on the same side as they all do work that prevents war. It's just that the Briars are specifically aligned to Ostania, so while usually Loid's missions are anti-war not all of them are of benefit to their country.

Some things I find interesting about the misinformation thing in the beginning:
1. In the original Chinese thread, they were already talking about how the picture was a fan photoshop and somebody took it seriously. Apparently the person who posted the screenshot to twitter didn't even try translate it.
2. In the first reply, they were saying that this is a failed attempt to diss "uncle", which refers to the owner of bilibili, the Chinese video site that shows SpyFamily, with copyright but three episodes behind everywhere else.
3. It is very interesting that when Chinese people talk about cencorship, video platforms are blamed, i.e. "capitalism bad", but when this misinformation is spread outside of China the country is roasted, i.e. "communism bad".
Lupas drumming is hilarious. Even more so that it's all mostly on 1 drum
