MPC 3 Quick overview - Arranger Mode, Disk Streaming, New Main Mode

- Akai just announced the upcoming reimagining of MPC OS - MPC 3!
I'm taking a quick tour of some of my favourite new additions and changes in MPC 3 and... What can I say? - There's a lot to like!
** Don't ask me how but I completely failed to mention that Audio Disk Streaming is available in MPC 3! **
The MPC's are now taking another step towards becoming a fully fletched DAW with the new Track system, making the process of juggling different sequences and programs a thing of the past.
Note that this update is not yet available - it'll drop as a public beta that can be signed up to using the link:
www.akaipro.com/mpc3
I'll dive deeper into this future update soon enough... My fist thoughts are simply: GREAT STUFF.
(I'm rarely this positive to changes... That says something.)

Since only 2 people answered so far, Tutorial series = HELL YES
I'm so happy Akai stepped this up. As someone who's always on and off with practice, starting to learn over again from scratch was always the biggest headache. Always had the thought "why can't they just visually show the tracks as layers instead of all this program nonsense?"
They finally read my mind.
That’s exactly how I feel too!
I know my way around the “old” system well enough to not feel hindered by it but this is just so much better!
Especially for people who’s felt intimidated by the workflow… This is a huge improvement!
Yes x1000. I think these UI overhauls are really going to help people more easily get into/back into the Akai workflow for song creation.
Because that’s what made an mpc an mpc it’s iconic legacy workflow … now I can’t call it an mpc because the legacy’s gone … because of people not knowing what an mpc is or was
Yes Yes Yes Accurate's teaching style is unmatched! PLEASE SIR HELP US LOL! Coming from Maschine so I know nothing about MPC and just bought the MPC 37 this past weekend!
@@smittytrill613 I’m a Maschine user too. And for more than a year have struggled to fall in love with my MPC. With 3.0 I’m going to invest some time again to see if MPC can work for me or I stick to Maschine.
I thought that I wouldn’t like the mpc3 update but now I love it . If you never used an MPC in your life you can put together a beat right away
The addition of the “Disk Streaming” feature is massive and a very welcomed feature!
Like many of your subscribers I would most certainly appreciate a tutorial tutorial series from yourself for sure too!!
,,,I’m so looking forward to a deeper dive into 3.0 from yourself as there is so much more to cover!
Thanks 🙏
What is disk streaming?
@@bangmateo7481Disk streaming plays the samples directly from your hard disk as they are needed during playback. This means very little RAM is required, but it does put an extra load on the processor and hard disk.
God you make me want to pick up a Key 37 so badly! Great update from Akai. Feels a lot like the Force arranger (which I love).
Sorry for giving you GAS but yeah… it’s a bright future!
@@AccurateBeatsI’m gonna start calling you beans. 😂
your way of explaining new stuff on mpc without being a snob or fearfull of workflow loss makes you and great tutor you should absolutly do a tutorial serie when beta is over and its out for everyone
This looks absolutely incredible. Glad to see that the good folks at AKAI has been listening to us.
This is what I've been BEGGING Native Instruments to do with a Maschine MK4, or at least in the software itself. Good job MPC. Looking forward to using it on my Key61 when it releases.
You mean we've been begging all of them to operate as the MV-8800...
NI is done!! Akai is the raining champion when it comes to beat machine
I think NI just gave up, no updates of machine plus since last year and the last one was just an update to fix bugs. Also their keyboards are not longer compatible with machine (wtf?). They are against themselves 😅.
Oh, I really want to disagree with this but I feel like I can’t anymore! Maschine was a really solid system when M+ came out and even though the lack of meaningful updates doesn’t make it a worse product, it just doesn’t keep up with what Akai is doing for the MPC’s.
NI is amazing at what they do now (Kontakt, komplete kontrol, plugins for days but on the groovebox front… Akai comes out winning
@@pdiggz2003agreed. Sad but true.
Absolutely 100% thank you for this video. The MPC key 61, absolutely needs disk streaming for sounds and samples. It will save lot of space in memory that can be used for other options in your sequence. Also, Akai…. Mouse and Keyboard support throughout the OS! Which will make using the new DAW option that much more quicker. We also need complete access to system memory, to know exactly what is loaded into it and to be able to quickly remove anything from system memory that we do not want in it(sounds, samples, etc…).
We also need the ability to use our SSD as virtual system RAM. Allowing us as the user choose how much of the SSD space we want to reserve as virtual RAM. That way, there’s no way that we can run out of memory for larger projects. Especially now that we will essentially have a fully functioning DAW.
Tutorials Are Definitely Welcomed And Needed...!!!👍🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥👍🏾
My god Akai, THANK YOU. Bounce to audio on the same page as the midi tracks. As a Logic/Cubase user, THANK YOU!
Yeah! And everything stays in perfect sync with effects and everything included. I’m pretty impressed by this for real
Definitely, yes please, do a tutorial of the instrument and the new software. I’d definitely subscribe to that! I have been convinced I’m getting an MPC since I first found your channel. It seems like you’d do a thorough job, and you’re already an approachable personality for your audience so you know we would all likely tune in. Could be a nice Christmas gift to oneself this year…. 🤓
Wow!!! What a time to be an MPC head😊
FR FR!!!!
Accurate - bruh - it is about time AKAI stepped up. You and I both know how long we've been waiting for this. Long overdue. As it is often said - better late than never. 😂Thanks for the preview.
Haha! I don’t know how much work it is to develop for something like this but I’m stoked about getting all this!
I’ll dive deeper into this to really try to push it but it reels really solid!
That’s dope! Excited to get the beta in hand myself!
Yes please release tutorials on this firmware. You explain things really well and easy to understand 👍🏽
Mpc has always been a digital audio workstation. It just finally got an arranger screen. Thank you Akai
It’s a good idea, looking forward to seeing more MPC content from you!
YES. Tutorial series. PLEASE! Start to finish. And play a guitar and/or mic something into it. I just started to learn, the old stuff, now there is the MPC 3, and will have to relearn.
Cool. Finally pushing some life into my Akai Key 61. This is what I tried to do when I got it two years ago, couldnt find the erase function on the piano roll, but this makes it so much more intuitive.
I'd love a tutorial series, as you're an excellent teacher.
Hello my friend! It is so good to see you. We were hospitalized around the same time way back and I have been in recovery and gotten better over time. I am so glad you look and sound so recovered. I am so so happy you are doing well. @accuratebeats
That's a nice track, and the drums have a good punch .
Haven't seen ya in a while but it's great to see you doing well, a few years after the brain surgery.
LOVE IT, can't wait to get my hands on this! I'm using the MPC world since 2023 and to be honest, I never really fully warmed up to them, because coming from Logic and Ableton Live, everything is SO complicated. I'm really looking forward to these changes.
OMG. They actually did it. Never thought I'd see it happen! Looks like they took some notes from beatmaker 3 on ipad. Im glad Im here for it.
I agree! I never thought they’d bring all this out!
Such a massive thing for Akai!
More tutorials is definitely a good idea….thanks for this vid also
absolute game changer, this is the #1 thing I wanted from MPC
C'est une Akai force sur Mpc un peut amélioré. J'adore
When is it going to be available
Amazing update
Great to see this method of arranging. What would make it even speedy to build an arrangement, would be if the clip grid functionality of the force was included in MPC 3.0.
There could be a seperate overview screen of the 64 pad matrix. The pad bank selection buttons could select which of the 16 pads buttons you were currently using (imagine the 64 grid divided into 4 quadrants) or you could plug in a grid controller like the APC mini or APC64 controller.
For a moment, reading from the title, I thought it would start to be able to recognize chords and have a bass following them... :DDD
Love this bro,Thanks for posting.
This is the Force on an MPC
Tutorials sound great!
Tutorial Series for MPC3. Yes please! 🎹
Bringing the mixer windows over from the FORCE is something I've been looking forward to for a while. MPC's mixer windows were a bummer, and the sends too. I could never find them without fumbling around those silly 16 squares. I signed up for the beta.
MPC 3 tutorials, YES!
A good pre xlr input , battery powered, and is a game changer fo real
That is a great idea tutorials on 3.0
Stay blessed
This is cool!! I just got my first MPC, the Key 37 after using FL Studio for the last 10 years. This arranger feature is like FL Studio. It will help with putting sequences where you want them for final mix
Yeah, it really improves the workflow for crating more than looping patterns. Can’t wait for this to fully polished and officially released. This is a huge W for Akai
more eyes than ears. akai, 2024
So dope! I sold my MPC years ago because of the layout. It didn’t vibe with my creative approach. This 3.0 is the fix. I now have a 37Key and cant wait for the new update.
Oh! You’ll love it. It really changes a lot of things for people who aren’t used to the workflow and makes it a lot more straight forward!
simmm !!! vamos precisar de varios tutoriais !!!
The force already does this
Great video Accurate. Two questions that came up for me.
1. Now that we get audio disk streaming. Does 3.0 now allow more than 8 audio tracks in standalone?
2. If you create a new sequence. Is it empty or do the tracks between sequences sync? Thus let's say if you have seqence 1 with drums, bass and an instrument and then create sequnce 2. Does ist have the same instruments or is it still like in 2.x that you either have to copy a sequence or recreate the tracks? If the track setup doesn't sync... How does arrangemet of multiple sequences work?
I bought an mpc one as soon as I saw this, the old OS was the only thing holding me back. ARRANGER IS EPIC, a bit buggy when it comes to recording instruments within a loop inside of the arranger for me so far, but I hope that gets fixed. as for working with midi and samples in the box this update is amazing.
DEFFINETLY do a tutorial much needed and im sure many will appreciate it. nice vid
What I’d like to see are some options to make the sampler work like Quick Sampler in Logic or Simpler in Ableton, where you can play a sample melodically without changing the tempo. It’s great when playing back synth arpeggio loops and you want the pitch to change but keep the rhythm locked to the BPM of your project. I’m surprised it can’t do it already!
I have one ans have not a clue how to work it so a beginner tutorial would be class. Subbed
How is the backwards compatibility?
Now that the structure of tracks + drum programs has shifted to simply tracks, I'm a bit confused how it's going to handle old project files with the old structure, since tracks and drum programs haven't been strictly tied to eachother up until now. I'm guessing there will be a way they'll make this work, but for the moment do find this a bit confusing.
A video on this would be greatly appreciated!
Totally see your point!
The backwards compatibility is there and everything in an old project seems to be there.
There’s an option to import a single sequence at a time and work your way through things, a sequence at a time but I need to dive deeper into this. Thanka
Great video, thanks!
it looks like a totally brand new gear now. It seems that we moved from a play live machine to a studio machine .. am I right ? For instance i personaly use often the sequence mode and on MPC One, i found very easy to switch from a sequence to another. When i play live, i appreciate how easy it is to mute tracks and then build up the music and constantly add or remove tracks. The thing is, i wonder if that functionality will still available ? If not, i won't go in 3 version ... thanks for your answer on that specific point
ADVOCATING NOW FOR THE iMPC 3,with STEMS AND INTEGRATION WITH THE MPC 3.0.....WE ARE GETTING THERE 👌 🔥 🙌
Very low user base, Akai is not invested in iOS
@@chosenonebeats Bro I don't think it's a reason to say throw in the towel 🤔 because look what some would say" Kick the MPCs to the curb "and NOW WHAT!!look what's going on, see ,plus there's people still using Moises and Koala, right now with the MPCs and other sequence machines out there. If you have iMPC???why wouldn't you want to do a rough draft on your smartphone for example, then transfer it to the 3.0 to perfect your beat/song via Bluetooth or over WiFi.. a no Brainner ?????
@@HubertCopeland-mu3eh it’s only a no brainer if it’s making money, Akai is not gonna invest in something that only “some” of the user base is using
Ny på Mpc kommer från pro tools this is underbart!
A comparison to The Force woudl be awesome!
I keep asking the same question of everyone doing an MPC 3.0 video. Have they set up USB Audio Compliance so that it is compatible with more than just 44.1 kHz?
I would love to see a tutorial series for an absolute noob. I mean dumb it down and simplify it just to understand the basic workflow and then expand from there
Yes! Please make a detailed tutorial.
I’ve been using Maschine MK2 for years and never really enjoyed the MPC workflow - had a 500 and hated it and borrowed a 1000 and didn’t gel.
Anyway - my old laptop is dying and I figured I’d upgrade and been looking at newer MPCs and how much they offer… This upgrade seems phenomenal - I just wish I could save faster!
Thanks for the quick overview. I've only watched a couple videos, but so far, no mention of the desktop app. I wonder if the app will be getting the V3 treatment on release.
In 2025
I'm waiting for the tutorial!❤
Pretty much a copy/paste from Force with the arranger and mixer. Looks good. Really hope Akai let go of the ”bar/step” automation and use like a vector style instead.
The answer is yes! Please make a tutorial video series. Great overview.
+10 for Tutorials
Great video! Thanks What about the Mpc to create compositions in Pop/Rock?
The disk streaming is going to be great for the MPC Keys
I don’t even own a MPC yet haha but I’d watch your tutorials if you’d make them! MPC3 looks cool
Looks great. Disk streaming finally lol
I love the new update. I can't wait to see what the final update for that will be like. Not the Beta. The full update.
I would love to see a tutorial series!
We are going to need an in-depth tutorial on this one thanks in advance
Game Changer, amazing and free!
Gamechanger 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Am new to mpc and am more familiar with daw programs, and think this will help people like me bc i was having a tough time understanding the mpc workflow
Looks like a solid update! I know that Akia can't do this on current models, but wish they'd think about HDMI out and mouse USB support. If we are getting real about what an MPC is these days, it's a laptop with a dedicated midi controller. Why not have HDMI out so we can add a nice monitor. It's still a dedicated machine for beat and song making, vs. a laptop. It's still perfect for live. But, it gives our eyes a break and with a mouse, easier to edit on screen data/arrangements. No doubt, the motherboard already has the ability, or it would be easy enough to add such in the future releases. (you can skip the lecture telling me to run MPC software, and just use the MPC hardware in controller mode. You missed my point. )
I think that’s what controller mode is for😂
I like the thinking here but I also think that people would get even more stuck on comparing the MPC’s performance to a computer if that stuff ever happened. People tend to complain as soon as they get the chance 🤣
Using a nicer monitor and a mouse would be dope for doing the editing that MPC now supports though. I’d be in it for sure!
@@chosenonebeats LOL you had to do it! LOL. :)
@@AccurateBeats I know. Everyone complains no matter what. LOL. Hence, no one pcs of kit is ever going to be the end all! Akai is 90% there though! Up the ram, go to a full intel i5 or something better than the $20 cpu they now use, add HDMI, and you have the making of a beast workstation all in one with VST support right on board. The marriage of Midi controller/high end CPU integration seems like such a no brainer! Yet, here we are. Milking outdated internal tech and riding on brand name loyalty. Maybe, time for a Kickstarter venture.
@@Curious_Skeptic 😂
I need to know what the workflow looks like to record live audio (miking my acoustic for a beat)
well if akai is looking for more sales they have just hit the nail on the head with this update i know of people
who sold there mpc for this one reason. to confusing. but now this just looks amazing never saw this coming so happy i kept my MPC LIVE 2
In arrange mode is it possible when vocal recording sending reverb effect for live listining?
Btw, when you doubled the sequence when you get 16 bars and not 8 bars (also showing BARS 16 in upper menu in the middle). 😀
Was thinking to myself a few days ago wow it would be nice if my Mpc could work like a daw. Never used my Mpc one that much to actually learn it. And now… I don’t have too 😂💪
Hello Accurate Beat.Thank you for this quick review. Can you please check if Akai fixed the huge Multichannel MIDI Note off issue ? When same note (example C3) is triggered on multiple MIDI channels of the same MIDI IN port, then the first Not Off event (whatever chanel it is received) kill this note (example C3) on all others channels which are playing it .Thank you
I wonder if mpc3 solved the click and pop problems associated with using an external audio interface?
Dope 🤙
This is great for the standalone only folks, but from what I understand, with this update, you can no longer start a project in standalone and then open it in the MPC desktop software to add any 3rd party VSTs you would normally use
AKAI announced MPC 3 as a BETA and non public release. It's like a movie trailer, but a good one.
I'm sorry fam but this is what I've been waiting for, the Maschine is now gonna be a paper weight for me....ITS LIKE WE JUST GOT FRUITY LOOPS ON OUR MPC'S
How awesome is to use a full daw on a 7" touchscreen with our sausage fingers! :)
@@simcax6087 WE DO IT ON CELLPHONES MUCH SMALLER....
@@simcax6087people went for hardware to get rid of daws. Now you’re just using a straight up daw but 20 times more uncomfortable lol. Old school mpcs are the way to go
@@StatetrooperBillyBlast I mean you don’t power up a laptop but you power up a laptop with pads in it? I understand what you’re trying to say, but next time compare it to a PC not a laptop 😁 laptop is equally mobile and 10x more powerful than an mpc. With pc setup you can’t move around
I personally use a daw and PC. But I play most of my stuff with guitars, piano, pads etc
Dude maschine does this already 😂
😁 exiting stuff!
Hey man. Thanks. When you load a kit on a track, and then explode the track, do the new tracks have just the single sample running in memory as a new single “kit/program”. Safe to assume the original track is muted and full kit samples stay in memory but is muted.
How about the arrangement tools and accuracy for cutting and moving. Seems audio has some tools but not sure how the control is. Seems the midi tools are the same with no improvements?
Txs
I have a question regarding the metronome count in.. is it only limited to two counts before starting the sequence? I'm so used to four clicks it's so annoying there's no setting to change it
Definitely would like a tutorial vid brother because im going to be lost lol ive kept my mp on v 2.10 because it worked best with my workflow but this update looks to good to not try😎✊🏽 nice vid man😮
Thanks!
Also… I’m focusing on the new stuff here. There’s a lot of things left from the other versions and an experienced user won’t have a lot of trouble learning the new additions.
But yeah, this is not an update to sleep on.
I find MCP 3 interface to be closer to a traditional DAW, with the new arranger mode. However, the song structure is the same as in MPC 2. A song is composed of one or multiple sequences, each having one or multiple tracks. Now, each track has a bunch of events on the timeline. A traditional daw will provide building blocks called « clips » inside a given track. Assembling clips on a given track is much more user friendly than having to copy paste individual notes or events of a given track. And, the arranger mode still doesn’t provide a way to create clips and move them around. So, the workflow to build complex tracks is still not there.
Question about syncing mpc to external source:
Currently (any firmware before 3) when MPC is sync'd to external source, if you arm an audio track (1 or more)> arm MPC rec or over dub> hit start/play, it only records a blip (very small audio track) and then immediately unarms the track. Is this still the case? If so, Can you (or anyone) please report this to Akai.
I use studio one and it hs to be the master clock source. I have no work around to record external audio. I really want to use my MPC in this manner. I'm not alone, but I'd guess it's under reported.
I've created a TH-cam video and Reddit post as an example.
hi can you tell us if you have the mpc 3 if external audio interfaces support has been expanded? in particular support for 48khz sample rates
How about the step sequencer and the warp algorithm in standalone? Any changes?
Hey thanks for the video. I also enjoyed your video about your live setup with the SP and Maschine. I contemplated a maschine + but already have MK3 and MPC One +.
Question: Do you think MPC 3.O could replace the Maschine + in your live setup?
Thanks!
And yes! I’ve always been a huge Maschine fan but I doubt that it will find a need for it in my future live sets.
I’m not sure if there’s a hard limit to how long an arrangement can be in MPC3 but this will definitely become useful for live shows!
Thanks for the nice words. This was a really rushed video and I’m looking forward to cover this update a bit deeper down the line.
Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah I thought that the ‘stream from disk’ feature would be a game changer for putting finished tracks on a pad.
Thank you for your video ! Did they make it easier to switch from a project to another ? It's part of some users workflow, like when you use the Key 61 as a stage keyboard
As far as I’ve tested it, the functionality is the same as before when it comes to loading entire projects.
If you could export different parts from different projects and put them on the same timeline, in different sections needs to be teated out though. With disk streaming, I think there could be ways to move around things like that.
Gonna have to try that out though.
Can you input midi notes, one note at a Time like Cubase and the older Mpcs (step record) in the arranger?
Id check out a tutorial video. Thanks for the run down
I think it's time to finally classify the MPC as a DAW instead of a groovebox. It's not quite up to the level of a Force yet, but each update brings it closer, and this particular update is a big step up. It's a bit weird seeing the features described as brand new though, since they mostly were introduced 4 to 5 years ago on Force.
Yeah, we’re definitely in DAW territory now.
Sure. force has a lot of time same functionality since way back… I know. I just don’t think most MPC users are familiar with it, which makes it new to them 😎
Reminds me of the Akai force software.
How many track channel such as midi and audio can add?
