Pirlo once claimed that the number of his assists would've been considerably more if he had played behind Messi or Cristiano. It's easy to see why. He wasn't just a technician. He was a genius. A master craftsman. Simply brilliant
I can just imagine certain strikers getting this sort of delivery, guys who like to hit it one time. Imagine Lewandowski, CR7 or RVP on the end of Pirlo's perfectly lofted pass...
Think about this. This man played at AC Milan for 10 years during his prime. There are hardly any clips in this wonderful 9 minute video of his time there. Think about about how many genius passes this man has played that don't show up in this video. i can think of a few off the top of my head. Hell, there isn't even a single pass from the 2006 WC in this video. Not even his famed no-look assist to Grosso in the 119' in the semi-final agianst Germany. Peerless Pirlo.
Pirlo is my favorite player of all time, but as a CDM myself, what astounds me most here is the quality of the finishing. So many difficult one-touch finishes from the air…outstanding passes, sure, but so many of these guys make it look easy.
U read my mind! Just when i thought to myself the camera man cant keep it up with pirlo s vision ... There i went to read a random comment and it was yours. 😂
no other player in history had his amount of vision.absolutely unmatched.& in when it comes to overall passing ability, top 15 of all time for sure.Xavi & Iniesta were better at short passing, & there have been players with the same passing range, but none so consistent in every single type of pass imaginable.
When you say no else matched his vision, I'd have to disagree with you there. There's a difference in pulling off difficult passes and vision, make no mistake, Pirlo had buckets of vision but in all my years of watching football, I haven't vision like prime Ozil. Objectively speaking, he strung passes that elude everyone except his intended target. No one else could see where the pass was going, even commentators we're awestruck. I think he did himself a disservice in joining Arsenal, with his kind talent he would take an already polished and well oiled machine to the next level. I'm certainly not saying his better that Pirlo or Xavi or Iniesta, just saying the boy had unparalleled vision
Lobs, chips, dead balls, balls in motion, dribbling, under control, quick passes, one-touch passes, fancy back-heels - he had them all equally well with both feet and the vision was immaculate.
Pirlo is such a unique player. Different type of breed from Xavi/Iniesta.. He seemed to be able to bypass any type of defense with a single stroke of perfectly weighted pass. This kind of video is f**kin therapeutic...
@@TheJwwinter fully agree with you on the playing type. I mentioned XavIesta since those 2 players are more often mentioned when talking about midfield GOAT. 🙌🏻
It's almost unreal the effortless accuracy he's like your ultimate fifa Pro defensive mid pinging balls all over the place controlling the game with ease
Present day players are trained to play thrilling fast pace, physical counter attacks with long passes, and the supplying player in most cases just kick the ball to an unoccupied area of the pitch and have a fast running teammate chase it for 1 to 2 penalty boxes' distance to retrieve the ball before shooting or second pass it. Pirlo on the other hand can make long passes even while his own team is on active offence (not just in a space exposing counter attack situation), and in most scenarios, his receiving teammates don't need to run more than 1/2 the distance of a penalty box to pick up the pass before shooting or second passing. Pirlo is a genuinely high quality, vision based pin point passer, and he himself is the highest definition of a passing maestro.
I spoke 2 min with him on a beach and cazzo che numero UNO! Passing unrivaled, for me always the best mix between Beckham’s flat and Ronaldinho diagonal fast passes… Il maestro! Also a humble and good person, read the book!!
He was even better than this video suggests. There are very few clips of his prime days in AC Milan in the video. That was when Pirlo established himself as the best deep-lying playmaker in the world and formed an unstoppable midfield with Gattuso, Seedorf and Kaka.
This video barely skims the surface, because it doesn't contain any clips from his time at Milan. Specifically between 2003 and 2006, he was doing this week in week out but the hype train only kicked in post the World Cup.
Giuseppe Giannini the prince of Rome was equally good with great vision and elegance but is underrated because no many know about proper football … Giannini was the Regista of Rome and Italy dictating the game for both teams but he played in the Hera of the fantasista so the Baggios the Zolas the Mancinis were more popular
Can’t remember who said it but they said Pirlo could probably play top level passes all across the pitch while having a wine glass in one hand, and I completely see it
If strikers didn't keep recklessly missing chances, Pirlo could've gone down as on of the best playmakers and would have the highest number of assistants in history of the game.
When Boateng said Pirlo told him to stop shouting for the ball because he will find him, you know thats a master speaking. I loved Pirlo so much
The best part of that genious is that he warns Boateng that he let's defenders know where he is on the pitch by yelling for passes
Italy would never win 2006 World Cup without him, such an intelligent player
