    Test drive on ice and snow - Suzuki Vitara 1.4T All Grip Select.
    SNOW, LOCK & AUTO modes - indications of 4WD, current control, transfer oil, differentials speeds, accelerator, wheel speeds.
    Info:
    4WD (%) is not an indication of torque distribution. That is control duty ratio - PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation).

    Wow, that's some quality comparison test!
    But for the non-expert like myself, what is the conclusion?
    What is the difference between Snow and Lock? When to disable the ESP?

    • @4x4.tests.on.rollers
      @4x4.tests.on.rollers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Snow is soft, low torque mode. Smooth start, not much wheelspin, strong ESP intervention. Lock is aggressive, high torque mode which allows for wheelspin. If you need high torque but with limited wheelspin - then LOCK with ESP OFF.

    Great video. Thank you! I have just bought the new 2019 Vitara 1.4 Sz5 Allgrip! In the UK they come with summer tyres and wondering if they would still be ok in the same type of weather and conditions as shown in the video. I'm not expecting to drive through feet of snow but any extra help in the snow with these tyres would be a big help.

    • @4x4.tests.on.rollers
      @4x4.tests.on.rollers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommed to use some winter tyres or at least all season tyres. Summer ones won't be ok on any snowy or icy roads, All Grip won't make it easier.

      @@mjg123mg Crossclimates are all season tyres based on summer tyres. They will keep you going, but braking on slippery roads won't be nice. For more snowy driving it is better to choose all season tyres based on winter tyres. All depends on the weather you have.

      I had Crossclimate on Vitara and been trough pretty rough winters with no problem, braking on snow is no problem, i changed them in october after 4 years at 70 000 km, now i have vredestein quatrac and i am curios if they will last at least 50 000 km since the cost was 25% less than crossclimate.

    Very precise. Actually a bit more than I can understand. Can you explain in WORDS the conclusion? I thought the LOCK system were a full 4-wheel diff lock. I`snt that so?

    • @4x4.tests.on.rollers
      @4x4.tests.on.rollers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lock isn't locking the diffs, this kind of cars do not have lockers (front and rear). And they usually do not have center diff at all, but a multiplate clutch-pack, which you may lock at low speeds by choosing the Lock mode. In case of Vitara it is a little bit different - Lock mode means permanent awd, but with variable torque split (from ~70/30 to ~50/50).

    • @4x4.tests.on.rollers
      @4x4.tests.on.rollers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@marcuscasagrande7596 Lock mode is powerfull. Awd system is engaged all the time. With ESP ON it allows for a lot of high torque wheelspin (TC works hard not to slow the wheels down, but to equalize their rotational speeds), with ESP OFF the TC brakes the wheels faster (less wheelspin), but still there is high torque. Snow mode is the opposite - very smooth, low torque, sensitive ESP, standard TC. And it is not awd all the time.

      @@xtremecameras Static means that maximum which system can do by itself is locking together front and rear axles, so it's 50/50. But if we add dynamic terms like weight transfer and grip (friction cooficient) then the range is from ~100/0 to ~0/100 (for example: front wheels on black ice, rear wheels on dry pavement - then ~100% of torque goes to the rear, however it doesn't mean rwd biased characteristics). When it comes to Impreza - it depends which kind of S-AWD system you mean. The one in Vitara is similar to Subaru ACT-4 (ATS). They are fwd biased but snow drifting is possible 🙂
