      For sure, and the haters are doubling down calling it luck 🤯. When teams are selected they are done to improvise for as many scenarios to happen when they select the highest scoring team, but they cannot ever pick a perfect team because they don't get an NBA franchise size roster to send to the Olympics.

      @@creating1_c1999 in this case it is less about the size of the team and more that they needed to have the highest scoring team to have a chance at winning bronze. They all did what they were expected to do

      It certainly is, which is why we need to have the alternates warming up alongside the competing team in the event that something like this happens. The team still would have been a bit shaken by seeing one of their teammates taking such a bad fall, but at least they wouldn't be worrying about her through the whole competition and be able to concentrate. The rule about how traveling alternates can be utilized makes very little sense.

I hope there is some clout from the two of you, perhaps maybe with Christine Brennan as well, and from the Gymnastics community at large to push for health, safety, and joy of sport by examining the reasons for the current rules and how they can be changed. Congrats to the men. Words cannot express how proud I am of this team. The Bronze was there and theirs for the taking and they earned it. Glad to see them get to the podium.
    I have to agree with Spencer about the Olympics not being worth it for what everyone is going through. I have been a spectator for decades. This is a different era. Going to the Olympics is a huge quadrennial event, swag et al. But it's not worth risking your health for. Once there was a time where you had to choose between remaining a professional elite or a NCAA amateur. Those days are over. You can be both now.
    WOGA is not the place for Hezly going forward. Henry, find another club.
    Hezly was not selected to this team to go into the team final. She was selected as an on the team alternate. I said this from the beginning that she is the BB and UB to balance out Jade FX and VT. She is the on the team alternate to be used in her highest scoring events. If anyone thought different or held any unrealistic expectations then you were not paying attention. Her numbers are not high enough yet to be on the 3/3 team final. She placed fifth in the AA at trials on her best performance of the senior season. And sadly, her beam was not as dazzling at Olympic quals as it was for the "setup" at trials.
    Where she could be used in the team final is to sub for Simone on UB. However for anyone who knows Simone, she can power through physical pain injury: broken toes, calf sprains, kidney stones, etc.

    • @caitlynskiff2001
      @caitlynskiff2001 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hezley was a rock at trials. That's why she was picked. But in Qualifying her nerves showed and she struggled. I only had Hezlly in the lineup if they decided to rest Simone on bars. But if Simone is good to go on all events than Hezly isn't needed. Especially after her struggle on Beam. This is about getting the gold medal, and Hezly is too much of a wild card on Beam. She is young, and this isn't the end for her. But even if it is, she will always be an Olympian.

    • @creating1_c1999
      @creating1_c1999 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@caitlynskiff2001 Bars was most definitely the only way to get Hezly onto team final in order to rest Simone. I told the seasonal viewers on IG that they should show up for Quals because that was likely the only time they'd see her unless one of the top three AAs didn't compete. Of course they were pissy when I said that.
      I don't think people rationalized the construct of this team or why Hezly was selected. They were full of unmanaged expectations for Hezly. There's a significant amount of talent in the top three to absorb imperfections for a qual., but in a team final and the goal is the gold for redemption, the Committee would never put Hezly on a 3/3 team final even if she hit beam.

    Assuming Simone's injury is a non-factor as they told us...Leaving Hezly out is a mistake, IMO. Makes everyone question the selection process and sends a negative message to Hezly, who may be the only person from this team that looks at 2028. She shook off the nerves and had a good bars routine. Put her out there again and it pays dividends for the future. The US left points out there in qual and still had a 5.6pt buffer. There is no universe of possibilities where she loses 3pts on one event, let alone 5. You have to win now but you also have to build continuity and confidence heading to the next quad, and that includes the selection process. It's a gymnastics program, not just an appearance.
    As for alternates - easy solution - expand the competition format to 7 or 9. No alternates. You bring everyone, and everyone competes. You can then decide if you drop the lowest, or if it's 5 up 5 count etc etc etc. The idea that an entire nation's gymnastics can be evaluated by 3 scores is absurd to begin with. And yes, the competition will take longer. So be it.
    Also, the 2 per country rule has to go away. Worst rule in gymnastics.

    • @ravanne3746
      @ravanne3746 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hezly will have plenty of opportunities to prove herself for 2028. Her inexperience in international competition showed and if everyone else on the team is up to the challenge, it makes sense to pull her from the team finals. The big question now is if Jade is feeling well enough to compete at her full potential because she had a rocky qualification round too.

      Not if she's feeling well enough. Apparently the calf issue is not a major injury and certainly nothing that would keep her from competing. This is an athlete that competed at worlds while passing a kidney stone and in other events with broken toes. She was being cautious during qualifications to make sure that she wouldn't hurt herself with a wonky landing and have to miss the team and event finals.
