@HistoricalWeapons Mongolians in Far East Asia, including Korea, The origin of Asian civilization, especially Koreans There are many records of historical events related to bows. Even in the name of the nation itself, there are titles related to bows. Also, even before modernization, they were a unique people who enjoyed archery, regardless of age or gender, even when it was not in wartime. There is no such example in any other country in the world.
@HistoricalWeapons I am a Korean. As you said, bowing has been used all over the world for thousands of years, but I would like to say that Korea has used bowing until the 1900s, and since thousands of years, Korea has developed bowing weapons to prevent hundreds of invasions from China and Japan, and that bowing skills have improved compared to other countries. Korea was defeated by Korea in the old Joseon Dynasty, even though Japan used more advanced modern weapons such as guns. And the Republic of Korea has seen guns since 1900. To become a member of the Korean archery team, a strict selection process is required, and the competition rate is more difficult and higher than the probability of winning the gold medal in the Olympics. I think this is why we have won 10 consecutive games.
@hanbaedal You're right. I'm Korean. Korea used to be a weak country, and it was invaded a lot by China and Japan. We used fewer guns, but we responded with bows. We have developed bows and skills that are effective and increase in performance, not in the traditional way. In Korea, there is a strict competition to be selected for the Olympic national team, and the competition rate for the competition rate is higher than the probability of winning the Olympic gold medal. Therefore, we have no choice but to do well in the Olympic field.

New to archery, got 2x10 and 1x9 shooting at 30m today which I was pleased with. Really makes you appreciate how much skill these Olympic archers have.
Historically, Koreans were famous as the world's best archers. Archery is literally the reason this ethnic group survived among neighboring superpowers. Just as Japanese swords were considered the best in East Asia, Korean bows were also regarded same. However, unlike in Japan where swords were a symbol of the ruling class, archery was the core of Korea's unique militia culture and a game enjoyed by all Koreans regardless of class. The tradition continues even today, with many students joining the archery club at South Korean schools. That's why South Korea's archery completely dominated the Olympics Unlike Japanese and Han Chinese bows, Korean bows are classified into the same family as Mongolian and Turkic bows. These bows are made of several layers of different elasticity, and requires more than 50kg of force to pull them. Other agricultural countries created bows with a weaker pulling force to supply to unskilled conscripted soldiers, but Korea had making bows exceptionally strong for an agricultural society due to their unique militia culture. The culture made archery a daily sport for all Koreans, which enabled them to become proficient. In Korea, even when the government fled or collapsed, militias were organized to fight invaders. Historically, Korean Peninsula was envaded by neighboring empires. But commoners continued to resist by organizing militias and hiding in the mountains for guerrilla warfare. So, even the Yuan and Qing dynasties were able to subdue Korean kingdoms and nominally rule over Korean peninsula, this culture made the actual domination and cultural assimilation impossible. This is the secret to the Koreans, a small people group stuck between superpowers, maintaining their identity and not being assimilated for thousands of years. In the Joseon period, all classes such as farmers, scholars, and officials played archery as a daily sports game. According to records from the Joseon Dynasty, many archery ranges were installed in every city in Korea, and in large cities such as Seoul, there were hundreds. In addition, as can be seen from letters and receipts from the Joseon period, civilians enjoyed archery games by betting money like gambling, or by drinking alcohol and having the loser pay for the alcohol. Archery was also a basic skill for scholars, and the archery subject had the highest score in the exam to select military officers during the Joseon Dynasty.

Korea is the only country in the world where common civilians both men and women practiced archery as a daily sport over 500 years. All classes of the society, from the King and aristocrats to the farmers and merchants, all practiced archery daily as a national sport. Interestingly, more women practiced archery than men too because men had other things to train like sword fighting, spear fighting, and horse riding, but women practiced only archery. This tradition continued throughout the Josun Dynasty of Korea over 500 years. It is still in the Korean DNA.
