  • Most of kia and hyundai have the same problem, steering wheel make noises do to the steering coupler wear out. Buy part online or from dealership. This job takes around 3 hours to do. Ived done this a lot so I find a way to cheat to get the job done faster.

    thanks for the video. My car does this too but is fine at higher speeds (maybe I just dont feel it with road vibration) and I also hear a rattle on bumps. I hope it is as simple as this.

    Thank you. Obviously it’s the labor that cost so much to replace this little piece that costs $20. The dealership said it was $500 for the part not counting labor. As a woman, I hate being taken advantage of.

      That sounds about right *if* they were trying to replace the motor that the coupler connects to, but they're 100% taking advantage if your bushing was just the issue. This part is only around 4$ at the nearest parts store for me.

    Awesome video! So we replaced that part on our forte but now the steering wheel is very hard any suggestions on what happened?

      Im not sure if this model has power steering pump or electric steering rack. If its still heavy, check the "power steering pump" for fluid is full. If its the "electric steering rack", then you need to replace the whole rack and pinion assembly. Not sure if you know how to check that.

      probably had coupling bound up when you tightened the motor back down

    Would this issue lead to tire rod issues. My steering wheel is doing this exact thing I have a Kia soul. But Its been getting worse over time and now I can feel my front end moving. Could the coupler do all that??

    • @Ah_Duuu_Ma
      @Ah_Duuu_Ma  ปีที่แล้ว

      The noises from the steering wheel, you have to replace the coupler. If the whole front end is moving could be few causes, bad lower control arms, bad sway bar links, bad ball joints, loose bolts on the subframe. Tie rods and the steering coupler won't make the front end to moves.

    My steering wheel is not straight…. I couldn’t get the bolt for the steering column thru… do you think that is what is causing my steering wheel to be at the 1 o clock position when driving straight?

    • @Ah_Duuu_Ma
      @Ah_Duuu_Ma  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You must mark the teeth between the steering rack and the column before you take the bolt out, so you put it back you know the exact original position. Im not sure if this model has a slot for the bolt to go through, if you line it up correctly "with the mark" it should slide in easily. If you disconnect the bolt and the column without marking, steering wheel will be miss align. To fix it, you gonna have keep the wheels straight 12 o'clock and try to disconnect and reconnect the steering wheel column back to 12 o'clock and if you do it perfectly line up 12 o'clock the bolt should go in easily (make sure you don't strip the bolt). This will take some times.

    My steering wheel makes creaking noises just like that continuously as I turn the wheel. Did the costumers wheel only make noises like you showed or continuously turning?

    PLEASE HELP i did all of this and inside where the top part plugs into where the coupler goes the plastic bracket broke so i cant get the one plug back in and now i have no power steering at all

    • @Ah_Duuu_Ma
      @Ah_Duuu_Ma  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you broke the plastic piece where the coupler goes in. You gonna need to buy the whole steering column cause they don't sell that piece separate. Try to call Kia dealership, see if they sell the steering motor separate, you be lucky if they have it.

    You dont have to drop the column then? you can just take the motor off it?

    • @Ah_Duuu_Ma
      @Ah_Duuu_Ma  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did it without dropping the column. Ive done these too many times. It might be hard for you.

    • @narutobase45
      @narutobase45 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Ah_Duuu_Ma so I did the job, on a 2014 kia forte from a scale of 1 to 10 its about a 5 if your doing it by yourself, one thing I figured out is if you drop the column it is easier to get the bolts off, but before you put it back up the steering wheel actually removes from the bottom part with its shaft so pull up, and it'd pretty easy to get it into the pivet slot because you can see to put it back on, then just insert the steering wheel back into the bottom part and bolt it back on, this way it took ne about a hour and a half total.

    Hello I did all that but I removed all steering coupler now is showing steering light constantly

    • @Ah_Duuu_Ma
      @Ah_Duuu_Ma  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it shows the steering light, then you might have damage a wire or a loose connector when you removed the steering.

      It should be but honestly it's not that bad of a job, any average person with some mechanical knowledge can do it at home, I'm above average and it took me about 80 min from start to complete, but I was also trying to find the easiest way to re Mont the column after dropping it, the column comes apart in 2 pieces, by pulling up on the steering wheel and makes it much easier to see and install back into the pivet point. The coupler is 5 bucks worth it to not have to sit at a dealership for hours or days and 500 bucks they charge for this job. This was the first time I did this, on a car, dealership definitely scaming people.
