I just finish this, I took everything apart last night and put them together this morning. This video helped a lot, I sincerely do appreciate you. You save me $ 1700 that Kia dealership wanted to charge me.

My mechanic suggested I buy the entire steering column.
I just got off the phone with KIA dealership in San Antonio, the complete steering column is $ 1,026, excluding labor cost.
This video explain everything very well. I can do this myself. It might take me longer though.

i just did this. very easy. the only hard part is i was having a little problem mounting the steering assembly back and put an initial screw to hold it bcz it is very heavy.

Excellent video! I would recommend the clip remover after doing this with a flat head. Clips are difficult to remove in some places.

Thank you so much for making this. My 2011 Optima was about a year out of the extended warranty for this stupid part. It took me a lot longer but I got it done! I used the jack for the spare tire to help lift the column back up. There was also plenty of swearing along the way 😂.
Took me about 2 hours.
Most difficult part was the lifting indeed!
But for the rest, the video was extremely helpful...
At 15:02 approximately a cockroach runs up into the volume control for the radio I think. Am I trippin?

Do I have to take the negative off of the battery so the airbag won’t deploy and if so when do I take it off after removing the 2 screws from the steering wheel?

Check your front suspension like inner and outer tie rod end control arm etc... I think its different for your car because your car have power steering pump not an electric power steering motor

i have a kia ceed 2010 with the steering wheel locking in place when i drive faster. İt is like the wheel is sticking and wont move while driving straight and when you apply more pressure to steering wheel to stay in lane it suddenly lets go and this time you have to correct again. Could this part the reason for a "sticky" steering wheel as well?
No I don't think so you probably have a bad rock n pinion or you might just need alignment
There is a TSB on this they changed it to 10 years unlimited mileage. TSBCHA072R1. shows how to replace the part. this is an updated version of the TSB.

Why is it that everytime the steering wheel column cover gets put back toghether there is always a gap?
I just replaced the whole suspension system and i still feel something popping on yhe steering wheel while driving. It does not have play when moving side to side. But, could it still be the plastic gear thats bad?

midas quoted me $1200; $20 for the part and 3 hours or so? Then again, it's midas ripoff. My mechanic quoted me $200 for the labor and asked me to get a second hand steering column from a low mileage crashed car for $150 instead of replacing the rubber bushing. Toronto, ON. I'm thinking I could do it myself, just scared to fk up the wires
