    I find this and the DT 1990 pro design very appealing, they have an early 20th century German industrial design look that makes me want them.

    Main issue with these cans is the price... too many great cans under that price point that are arguably just outright better.

    I have both the 770 and the 1770, had the 770 for 5 years, great sound for the price, but for me the 1770 is a solid step up and a better headphone. The mid bass kicks alot harder, more details, and more refined treble, while the 770 has more airy treble. Not only music, but in gaming there is so much more punch in games like Battlefield, and more details, easier to hear footsteps etc.
    But they need some EQ, and a decent sound card, dac/amp.

      I'm long time 770 user too. I've used 1990 and Ananda before 1770 as well. To me 1770 sounded very bad compared to other 3. I felt like mids and highs are recessed, no air and constant bass. Bass felt good when it comes to explosions in games/movies but that 770's air and room/soundstage quality was missing. It sounded very off with music as well.

    I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I actually prefer the looks of 770's over the newer 1770's. The "all black" look is cool, but there's just something cool aesthetically about the OG grey pads on the 770. Maybe I'm just tired of seeing almost every headphone come out with black cups/pads these days. They both look great though.

    • @killerra
      @killerra 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those grey velour pads were definitely an iconic look to me, shame Beyer changed its brands to the stealth black designs across the board.

    really did not like the 1770s (they went back to the shop). The sound balance was terrible and the bass is way too heavy. Also clarity in the 770s was much better. Save yourself some money and stick with the good old 770s that have stood the test of time.

    • @HunterHunter88
      @HunterHunter88 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am kind of in a similar position. Only thing I did prefer about the DT 1770 over the 770, is the detail retrieval and a slightly more full-bodied sound, and also, the quality of the bass slam in certain scenarios. I do agree though that the bass can be a bit too much at times. I have been using the DT 1770 Pros on and off for a year or so, and at the time, I did A-B test both of these headphones together. I am going to try the 770s again, as I don't think I can justify the price of the 1770s for what you get in return.
      Did you use Chronos eq?

    I have the DT1770’s and also the Hifiman Aryas and the Fii0 FH7 iems. The Aryas are perfection, the FH7s great fun but if I’m listening to hard, fast rock (eg Sonic Youth - dirty boots / mote) the the DT1770s are my choice. They bash you with the bass and treble and make sure you know you’re alive. They definitely have a place for the right listener.

    be great friends. Headphones Wednesday, D30 Pro September 2nd.

    You need a solid hp amp to get 250 ohm phones to reach their sonic potential.

  • @noturnleftunstoned72
    @noturnleftunstoned72 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    To be honest I would never get these, even being a big fan and user of Beyer cans. For this price I would probably get entry level planars or something else.
    I've been using DT770 pro 80 and 250 ohm for more than 15 years with Sennheiser 600's & Dan Clark Closed X in between. That is my permanent trio since around 2005.
    I believe the dt770 Pro's to be the best closed headphones under $500 easily. The soundstage is unreal. Also, with a bit of EQing, you can shape that gorgeous, natural spacious hi res sound to a more "flattened" sonic shape if you so choose. Great channel !

    My biggest complaint about the 1770 pro is the cable, by god it has the weakest, noisiest, most flimsy connector construction ever. It's the achilles heal for me, whenever I move my head I can hear it crying out, in mandarin. Everything else about the headphones are awesome, but the cable and connector is just plain terrible.

    Made the step precisely from DT770 to DT1770. EQing 1770 was a real bitch... that treble peak, man... even after I got it about where I wanted, it still raises its head from time to time, especially in S-pronunciations.
    I EQ'd 770 and 1770 very differently, but I'm still missing 770's overall treble response which I can't achieve with 1770. The 1770 gives more detail, but sure is a hot one. I'm much more pleased with 1770's bass response.
    I paid ~400eur for new 1770, for the full price I wouldn't even consider them. I don't regret buying them, but they are a mixed bag.

  • @testek3053
    @testek3053 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    1:57 reviewers need to stop praising some imaginary metal build or increase in build quality in the new beyer series... the cups are plastic on the new models too, so no improvement here; the headband and yokes were metal already on the dt770 anyway, so no improvement again. if anything, we now get a big weight increase (from 270g to 388g) and a huge price increase (4x) making it less comfortable than its predecessor without being more premium at all.
    2:15 "beyerdynamic design is excellent and should not cause you any issues" not true. the new design has a bigger less comfortable headband that now goes inside the yoke locks, putting pressure on 2 small screws in a plastic threading! yes you read that right: plastic threadings, like in easy to wear out and let the screws loose. this part is more likely to fail than the previous design.

      @@testek3053 I currently have 990s and 1990s side by side. The only thing 1990 do better is soundstage, bass extension and mids. The 990s are more open/airy. They don’t have that scoop at around 4-5K , that 1990s do. The treble on dt990s is clearer but more subilant, after EQ-ing the treble on both of them and removing that peek, the 990s are actually more detailed for some reason. For my personal preferences, I like the more open and airy presentation of the 990s, compared to the slightly closed off, darker 1990s.

      @@SugaFree2387 i own both and i've a/b tested them a lot. i can say that's not the only things dt1990 does better. new tesla driver is faster, managing more precision in the transients and more cleaner detail retrieval. also, tesla driver is more powerful, managing a better pucnh and slam. this one makes a huge difference in the result when driven with a decent amp.
      i agree with you that dt990 is more v-shaped so it sounds more airy and bassier out of the box (or some may say boomy and sibilant), but if you eq both you can still get air on the dt1990 without losing the benefits of bass extension and the amazing speed and slam of the tesla driver (things you can't replicate with eq).

    if you're applying EQ curves to this or any headphone without using a linear phase eq of the highest quality, you are deluding yourself, any perceived improvement in audio quality would certainly be wiped out by phase smearing present in a traditional eq, and if you can't hear that you certainly shouldn't be evaluating the quality or lack there of in headphones to begin with
