Sunshine in a bag is a reference to "the Good the Bad and the Ugly" ( a Clint Eastwood film). In the film its a bag of gold, in the song it's speculated to refer to a bag of marijuana.
The lead singer started out in a band called Blur. Not on animated band
Funny that you phrase it as, "started out" in a band, etc. That era could be considered as an entire and very accomplished career in its own right, had he never done anything more.

Gorillaz ARE a trip - their whole concept - even their 1st concerts were animated projections! They're UK based and even we didn't know who the band members were for a while. Most of their stuff is chilled, funk, trip hop, rap/rock, but their videos are always second level and SOOOO creative. The main singer is Damon Albarn from a band called 'Blur' that were big in the 90's as part of the 'BritPop' scene. He was the only permanent member of Gorillaz with other members coming and going and loads of guest artists. Check out them at Glastonbury when Snoop comes out and raps on Clint Eastwood - audience members mind blown!🤯🤣 (traditionally intoxicated on whatever to make 'em 'Feel Good')
Been listening to Gorillaz for 20 years. Glad to see a new generation discovering them.
Gorillaz is an animated band. There are no "real" people in the band. They've got their reasons for that Feel good inc is their other most popular song.

Mostly beyond that I listen more to singles than full albums but if memory serves I've done listens for Mmmfood and Take me to your Leader. Looks like I might have done Mad Villiany as well but it's been a while. I should honestly listen more often.

The intro to the song plays part of some music from The Good, The Bad & the Ugly Eastwood movie.
The phrase is also a reference to "For a fistful of dollars", part of the good, the bad & the ugly saga, also starred by Clint.

Gorillaz are amazing. Very well know for featuring a different artist/rapper on almost every song. Only permanent band members are Damon (the singer/creator) and Jamie (the animator). My favorites are 19-2000 Soulchild Remix and Feel Good Inc. So cool to see live as well. There was a huge screen and the performers were behind it. Very visual and interesting.

The whole concept of gorillaz is to decunstroct music, most of their songs are the combination of genres, the reason for why they are animated is because that way they can experiment with whatever genre they want. They love to combine rock and rap since the creator Damon albarn was the lead singer of blur a punkrock band

I bought the single cassette back in the day with Feels Good on the other side. Our girls were young and we all loved the vibe! I would use dancing to it as a reward...ie...ok make your beds then you can hear "a gorilla song" as they called them! Later I saw the video and marveled at such a creative presentation! Great songs! 😽💘
Also try listening to Feel Good Inc, Dare, 19-2000, Stylo, Saturn Barz. Those are all good ones plus the ones I can't think of right now 😅.

It's Damon Albarn, the vocalist of Blur, they created this cartoon band with names, a backstory and everything, great songs, as the videos have released the characters have actually aged as in real life, specially Noodle who started as a little kid

The band is made up of many animators, Cameo celebs, and of course, Damon Albarn(singing voice) and Jamie Hewlett(Artist). 2D, Murdoc, Russell and Noodle are not real people, they were made up by the two. This song was made 2001, this was not their first song, their first song was in 1998, the newest song just came out on Christmas eve of 2020.

Gorillaz is "virtual band" composed of two guys, one does the music and the other the illustrations, the collaborate with other artists.
Same as Daft Punk lol the difference is that Gorillaz are no robot and the music genre.
Gorrilaz is a collaboration between Damon Albarn the singer with Brit pop band Blur who is responsible for the vocals and artist Jamie Hewlett who does the animation. They are supplemented by different guest artists on their songs.

This is a virtual band.
The cartoon characters on screen are the public face of the band, but are completely fictional and have nothing to do with the actual music. Most of the musicians are rotating roster.

Gorillaz are an animated band created by Damon Albarn, the lead singer of 90's Britpop band Blur and Jamie Hewlett, comic book illustrator for Tank girl. The band members are 2D (the singer) Noodle (the guitarist) Murdoc (the bassist) and Russel (the drummer), each character has it's own backstory and personality which contribute to their storyline/lore. The band are not defined by a genre and mix lot of genres together, this song being an example of alternative rock and rap mixed together. Often there being a "trippy" vibe to their songs and a strong political message. Damon and Jamie originally came up with the idea of the band when they lived together in a flat in East London in 1997, after watching MTV and felt as if there was a "lack of substance" in mainstream music after the rise of manufactured boy/girl bands. You should check out some of their other big hits such as Feel Good Inc and DARE.

The reason why the animated the videos was because the drummer was underage considerably, in the animation he looks like an adult but at the time that the band formed I think my folks told me he was at the age of 10 to 12 years old therefore he was too young to legally go out on tours with songs so they decide to keep him protected and safe by animating him

Gorillas are pretty much are virtual bands they are animated that's their persona. Nevertheless, they turn out some banging tunes. this is one of my favorites along with Feel Good Inc and Dirty Harry.
