Gorillaz is an animated band. There are only 2 real members Damon Alburn (the singer/producer) and the animator Jamie Hewlett. Their songs usually feature q guest rapper/singer. Definitely check out Feel Good Inc from them featuring Del La Soul.

gorillaz continue to be amazing even with their new stuff. You can't go wrong reacting to any of their songs, but I agree with the Dirty Harry suggestion!
Gorillaz is all animated, it’s their gimmick. We know who the artists are, but on this project they chose to be an animated band. The music videos are damn cool.
Aaah yes, the Gorillaz rabbit hole, now that is a truly fun one to jump into.
Their music is timeless yet unique and their videos are works of art, the story telling and world building is incredible, all videos are more or less connected and tell one big story.
And yes, they actually perform live as well, the virtual characters are projected and fully visible as the performing band, and the actual musicians are behind a see-through curtain. (you only see their silhouettes from time to time)
During their live shows, the only actual (visible) people on stage are the rappers, the rest is all virtual projections, very impressive technology.
The rapper is Del The Funky Homosapian. One of the rappers in the 90s rap group Hyrolgliphics. One of the best rap groups as far as knowledge rap. Up there with Wu Tang Clan

Every inflection he makes is intentional. There is always an Apathetic or Melancholic sound to them. Other than the lead singer and the animator, they are constantly bringing in different famous singers, groups and the occasional random actor like Bruce Willis in their song Stylo.

They’re not a real group. It’s a bunch of musicians and artists collaborating to make a virtual group. It was created by Damon Albarn from Blur (he sings on most tracks) and cartoonist Jamie Hewlett. They work with hip-hop producer (one of my favs) Dan the Automator as well as Danger Mouse. They have features such as Del the Funkee Homosapian, who is on this track, Hieroglyphics, Deltron 3030), De La Soul, Shaun Ryder, Bobby Womack, Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads), Mos Def, Vince Staples, Roots Manuva, MF DOOM, Miho Hatori (Cibbo Matto), Lou Reed (Velvet Underground) and a ton of other musicians.
Gotta check out Feel Good Inc. The Gorillaz is definitely a vibe!!

1:54 wow! you really haven't heard of Gorillaz then. They ARE the band, my guy. who ever voices, sings or plays these characters: never shown nor told to the viewers. The band of Gorillaz are the animated fellows and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Gorillaz is the musical equivalent to the On Cinema universe
First of all the videos are telling the story of the band and the albums so I advice you to keep them in order even more so when you come to the plastic beach album entrys later on.
Next song on youre video journey should be 19-2000 a catchy song you will not expect ^^ followed by Dirty Harry and Dare (creepy asian teen nerds fever dream of a dance song and one of the only few female mainvoice tracks) and Feel Good Inc and El Manana (those both vids are tied together) which basically end in a small tragedy for the band itself leading to the events of plastic beach a few years afterwards which are basically connected over several videos starting with Welcome to plastic Beach, Stylo followed by Meloncholy Hill and Rinstone Eyes (while it had gotten its video cutted because of budget issues only the storyboard version is available stil awesome but there is a fand made animated version of the storyboard one I highly recommend to you)
After plastic beach the whole experience for Gorillaz changes a lot with more focus on single tracks and featured artists and the developenment of the story of the band is a bit hidden between the lines but none the less a great experience overall and while Humanz replaces the bassist and Leader Murdoc for a short while with the villain Ace from the green gang from power Puff girls it is stil an extremly unique experience to watch the vids ^^ The Song Mashine album or I would argue experience is more accurate further focus on single tracks with Murdoc back to the band and some entrys you should not skip like Momentary Bliz for example a masterpiece by it's nature basically showing the record of the song in the studio with the band adding so much funny moments to it. In short if you have watched up to plastic beach allready and you are not hooked by then wanting to watch all of the musicvideos I would assume you could also leave them behind but I daubt this is possible as their is music for everyone included .
I'm looking forward to your experiences with the Gorillaz ^^ (beside the vids there are tons of additional sources with infos about the bands history to explore beside they are only fictional of course and the real Gorillaz are basically the singer Damian Albarn ( from the brittish Band Blur) and the comic book artist Jamie Hewlett with lots of other featured artists alongside like Snoopdog, Schoolboy, Elton John, Little Dragon...... )

Founder Albarn wants it to be about the MUSIC and not cults of personality: like every Madonna video is 95% shots of her and her face. Gorillaz you never see their faces (except sometimes guest rappers)
When I saw Gorillaz at the Apollo they performed behind a scrim! and only the guest performers were in front of it (like Dennis Hopper and Lou Reed) ✊🏽

I recommend not to look into the fictional lore of the band unless you have plenty of time to go down that rabbit hole, it is a doozy.
