Hello everyone! Welcome to this video! Here is another amazing highlight of the year, the Italian Air Force Airbus A340-500 with the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella on a Canadian State Visit.
This all started the week prior, when Canada's Governor General David Johnston (at the time) announced that Italian President Serio Mattarella would be coming to Canada on an Official State Visit. I presumed Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver would be on the list of places to visit and they were, with Montreal included as well. However, what the Governor General failed to provide was an exact itinerary of where the President of Italy was going, since he only provided a detailed itinerary on Tuesday, June 27th in Ottawa. I had fellow friends in Ottawa who told me that his arrival was on Monday, June 26th and his departure was on Wednesday, June 28th. This led me to think he was only going to Ottawa but unknown to me, while I was at the Illuminate Barrie Kickoff Airshow of 2017, the President of Italy actually went to Montreal! And when I woke up on Thursday, June 29th, I got spammed with messages saying the Italians had landed at Toronto and I had missed it! Well, that sucked big time, now time was spent trying to find out when the departure was, which didn't come too long thankfully. An alert posting an 1100hrs departure to Vancouver on Friday, June 30th to conclude the State Visit was made.
So I headed out early Friday morning, got some shots of the Airbus A340-500 which was parked at the Central De-Icing Facility, and then went to pickup a friend of mine to catch the aircraft. We then quickly made a stop at the GTAA Buildings to catch the motorcade coming in with Sergio Mattarella and then we headed to RWY 23 by the Parking Garage to catch the takeoff. And its good we did it fast because they were not a moment too late. A minute after filing clearance, they were gone, out taxiing and off on RWY 23 in a heartbeat! I'm very happy I was able to get the Italian Air Force this year, and the fact that it was an Airbus A340-500 makes it all the more better!

Ahh, good ol' I-TALY! I've caught it twice. Once with the Italian president, the other with the Italian prime minister in board. By the way, what's the best spotting location for 24R at YYZ? Huge like for this video :)
Thanks! Yup, I saw the videos. Made a visit to Ottawa twice this year, lucky ;) RWY 24R has two good spots, morning is the Best Western Hotel Garage on Carlingview Dr, afternoon is the Arizona's bar parking lot on Carlingview Dr.
