      Indeed. I was a sophomore in high school in 1976. This was a totally different sound than any other band at the time. MAN, we had some great bands back then, including this one, Rush, The Eagles, and a TON of others. I actually had the LP of this one that was printed in color, but alas, at some point over the last 40-od years I lost it.

      I'm another 1960 child and most of my favorite music came out in the late 60's to the early 80's. As for bands I remember besides Boston (not really sure about the timing on some of these), Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Def Leppard, ZZ Top, Supertramp, Lynard Skynyrd, Eagles, Foreigner. These are just the ones off the top of my head. I'm sure there are a lot more I'm forgetting. I think this was truly some of the best music of all time and it's not called CLASSIC rock for no reason.

      Most people don't know that he did ALL of the instruments and singing himself. AFTER he got a record deal is when he got an actual band together. He did all the mixing in his basement.

    • @289hipo
      @289hipo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Small correction > Scholz wrote (I believe) all the songs, did 95% of the guitar work, ALL the keyboards, but brought in 2 others for the drums, as well as Brad Delp for vocals. And, did ALL the > recording, mixing, and production. Almost all of the special effects, both vocal & instrumental, were designed and built by him as well, some of which are still used today in the digital age, because no one's come up with anything better! 46 years later and his analog "old" tech is still kicking ass. Guy was a certified genius

      Spot on! I couldn't have described him much better. That entire first album in itself is genius, not just in musical or sonic features, but the entire way that one single man pretty much created this and then tricked the record company into thinking that what they heard was an entire band...or so they thought. Genius!!
      In addition, Scholz is a philanthropist and a vegetarian. It's even been noted that he is great in sports such as basketball and ice skating, along with being an airplane pilot that he flies his own small aircraft on tour from city to city.

This song has harmonic vocals, a bit formulaic but exceptional musicianship, great production and high energy rock sound that would inspire late 70s/ 80s bands such as Toto, Journey, Foreigner and Reo Speedwagon.

    The band Boston was "THE" band that carved out a whole new ultra musical sound (nothing like it) and genre of their own. The bands leader Tom Sholtz was the mastermind behind the whole deal. Of course when he found Brad Delp as a vocalist it sealed the deal to everyones great pleasure. It wasn't magical it was a miracle in music. Mind blown the first note....... perfection is an understatement on this one. No kidding....... no hype.

      @@SuperAlittlebitcrazy Absolutely!! And I love how the lead vocals trade off between two lead tracks allowing the phrases to bleed over each other. They were even able to do it live thanks to Barry Goudreau's voice being so similar to Brad Delp's. Most bands would have just cut each phrase short and had one lead vocal track. It's possible for one person to sing lead, but it doesn't sound the same. It loses a lot of richness.

    Boston were originators. When this album came out it was considered one of best produced albums of all time. The founder, Tom Scholz, has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. He built his studio in basement and basically recorded the entire album himself. He brought in Brad Delp for vocals and other musicians for final touches (and also the record company needed an entire band for the marketing of the album) and for touring. This band held the record since 1976 until this year of being the biggest selling debut album by a band in the history of rock and roll. It just fell into second as it recently was passed by Guns and Roses' debut, Appetite for Destruction. If you all want to review another Boston song, I HIGHLY recommend "Smokin'", and then "Don't Look Back"!!!!!

Very different mood and melody, but still, classics will always be classics, yet other eras of rock will eventually join them. When you've heard certain songs a million times you start to hear past it, like the paint on your walls that just become something you look past. But to watch you two experience a song for the first time makes me focus so intently on every nuance and detail. It's like taking someone to Disney for the first time and getting to watch all the wonder and amazement through their eyes. I get so excited to watch you take it all in and anticipating how it will hit you. I discovered your channel with the Rush - YYZ Reaction which blew my mind (Rush is my #1 band). And you hooked me by the way you seem to zero in on a song's center and just... get it. All the things that make me go wild for a song you two put into words, into how you jam out, and that "look" that George gets when the song really hits deep. I love that look. Nobody reviews songs like you two do. Great stuff, always.

    Their first album gets all the love - rightly so - but the title track to the second album is my favorite Boston track. It’s everything you love about the band. Give “Don’t Look Back” a shot.

      Kevin Kirwan I know I’m in the minority, but I actually like the second album more than the first. “Don’t Look Back” is a little more varied overall, as a collection of songs.

    Boston's first album was a classic. It was pure magic that only comes around once every so often. I love all genres of music. Good stuff is good stuff.

    I was born in 68. Boston hit me like a ton of bricks. 8 years old I started liking rock because of this first album. One of the most popular albums in rock history. They actually have turned me on too music overall. Long live Boston. This whole1st album is the best

    I was 12 in 1976. The Beatles and Zep i'm sure had an influence both on Brad and Tom, but they put something together that was pretty close to being their own. Brad's vocals and Tom's classically influenced harmony guitar lines, which sound like 80 pound violins, are still to this day mesmerizing in my opinion. I've probably listened to the first Boston album a thousand times...
    Nice job gents. You're bringing everybody together, which is what music is all about. Thank you!!!

    The main complaint people have with Boston is that they were played soooooooo much on radio (and still are) that people got tired of it. But the songs are undeniable.
