Yes, Boston is indeed from "Boston." Lol. A legendary rock band, who's debut album is still to this day, one of the biggest sellers of all time. Every song was a banger.
The most incredible thing about them is that the guitarist Tom Sholz wrote every song, played every instrument, and did the entire production of the album in his own basement. He then recruited his friend, singer Brad Delp, to do the vocals. Once they had it all recorded and shopped it around to local radio stations and record labels, they caught on. Once they started to hit, they then had to form an actual band and start touring/playing live. It is truly an unheard of rise to fame.
They have so many amazing songs. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Tom Scholz an MIT educated electrical engineer genius working for Polaroid Corp.(Yes the legendary instant camera’a and film company) in Waltham Mass was given an ultimatum by his bosses because he was spending to much time on his hobby music. So he resigned.
He build a studio in his Watertown apartment (yes Same Watertown as the shootout with the Boston Marathon bombers). He soundproofed the room with material he bought so as not to be evicted. Built all the studio equipment from scraps he found.
He created all the sounds himself with exception of Brad Delps vocals, Brad, from Peobody Mass, was introduced to Tom by Barry Goudreau. The drums were provided by Jim Masdea and then Sib Hashain for the final production. Sib’s was from Lynnfield Mass and his daughter married Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson.
Tom Scholz created the sound of two guitars by overdubbing his own guitar tracks. He produced the harmonies by over dubbing Brads remarkably vocals.
Tom first lied to a prospective music producer that the sound was created in a California Professional Music Studio because he thought know one would believe he made it in his basement.
The debut Album is one of the greatest debut rock studio albums of all time in 1976. No one had ever heard anything like it.
It presented a new problem. The record company insisted they tour. Which meant assembling a band the technically didn’t exist.
But they pulled it off. The rest is rock history. RIP Brad Delp.
PS Marianne was a real person. When Tom Scholz was 10 he had a crush on his cousin Marianne.

"No computers or auto tune" Computers and other forms of electronic recording aids in general most certainly existed in the '70s, and this album is full of them. Sound engineering, editing, mixing, overdubbing, multitracking, lip synching, etc, was very much a part of the music industry well before the '70s. While they may not have yet had auto tune, that didn't mean they couldn't and didn't enhance and "sweeten" the voices and instrumentals on records. They did it the old fashioned way, turn a knob, push a slider on the board, and viola. They could make anyone sound better. In fact, there was a bit of a scandal about that in the 1920s and again in the '50s, pertaining to "singers" or musicians who got credit on records who didn't or couldn't really sing or play, but they had the right "look" and charisma that could make a lot of money for the record company, so they got a lot of help in the recording studio through the magic of sound engineering.

1976! We were so spoiled for amazing music in the day! Driving down the road as a teen with music like this song playing for free on our radio... and we just thought this was normal ;-) This song peaked at #5 December 25, 1976 stayed at 5 for 2 weeks. This blows me away because looking back I think it tromps the top 5, but then again there are ones below it form Queen, the Eagles, Elton John, and more that all gave strong competition for air time. see The Real American Top 40 Wiki. Tom Sholze was the founder and Masterful engineer and musician of this awesome rock band. He actually was from Toledo, Ohio then moved to Boston were he was a graduate of MIT where he got his engineering degree. He developed his own sounds for this debut album and did play every instrument to make this before forming the band from a group of very talented rock players from Boston area. Word has it the Marianne who was mentioned in this awesome song was a cousin of Tom Sholze when he was a teenager and she was much older and he had a crush on her but understandably it wasn't meant to be and she walked away from him! He also developed a effects pedal for rock musicians called the rockmen in limited numbers and is still used today by every day guitarist.

Boston were the pioneers of what we called FORMULA ROCK back in the late 70s. Tom Scholz, the guitarist , is a master of technical effects. In fact, he has a line of pedal effects and amplifiers under Scholz Research and Development. SR & D. Barry Goudreau and Brad Delp held killer vocals. These guys spent a lot of time between albums and many rumors of breakups surfaced. I believe a couple of members have passed away but the, as a group, certainly SET a new standard for groups that formed in the 80s. Sholz did most but not all instrumentals on the album. Drums were done by Sib Hashian and Jim Masdea. Brad Delp is credited with contributions on 12-string acoustic guitar, rhythm guitar, and some percussion. Barry Goudreau got credit for lead and rhythm guitar and guitar solos on "Long Time" and "Let Me Take You Home Tonight". Fran Sheehan played bass on "Foreplay" and "Let Me Take You Home Tonight. Delp did all of the vocals including the backing tracks where he harmonizes with himself. Most of the songs on this album were solo written by Sholz, but not all of them. "Smokin'" was co-written with Delp, and "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" was written by Delp alone.

Boston was my first concert, Sammy Hager opened up and the power went out during his set. As a 12 year old I was blown away and got to see some really great bands in the 70s 80s and 90s. Next up should be Foreplay/Long Time

The song has an irresistable structure with great switches and the singer and guitarplayer lifts it to the highest level. Nothing could be done better. Great songs made in the 70s like this one .

12 string at the beginning had me!! Researched them the singer originally played every instrument and did vocals by himself in his basement, that’s so cool

@@crabuki1273 I became a fan of the band in the late 70's from the influences of an uncle of mine who was 10 years older. We were all amazed the band even did a 3rd album (Third Stage) in the 80's. Most people really thought the band was done and then voila!

You are right..Boston's more than a feeling has been played in numerous movies and tv shows over the past couple of decades. Founding member Tom Scholz wrote the lyrics, and recorded all the instruments he played...in fact, he play all instruments in the debut album. Brad Delp sang the vocals including backup and harmony. Tom was ahead of his time, as a graduate of MIT, and employed at Polaroid, he worked on this album for 6 years in his basement, creating creating electronic devices that would be used for voice and guitar and organ. In fact, many of the foot pedals used in the rock industry today that give guitars their unique sounds, are a result of Tom's inventions and patents.
Tom dubbed the voices over when Brad entered the scene giving the sound of a full multiple voice, while Brad also dubbed in the harmonies. The entire album was produced in Tom's basement...genius. It was their debut album to boot, and remained on the top 100 charts around the world for 132 weeks. There was no one like Boston's sound with the electronic devices that Tom created to enhance the sound, and they quickly took the rock and pop era by storm, right during the Disco age.
Im 65 years old, and I still get goose bumps listening to Boston....no other band like them then or now.

What a super fab tune! Fun reactions! Took me back to grammar school. One of my girls has a brother in the music industry. He was always touring and we took over his room. The best stereo system of the time and, what a music collection we got to go through. I think I still have a photo somewhere of that wonderful music room. Anyways, I remember the summer this was huge, walking to her house and, this was the tune playing. That is the photo I have. 10 yrs old in bell bottom and a tube top. Thank you, truly. Peace On Ya

Boston has that "Arena Rock" sound. They are an American rock band formed in 1975 by Tom Scholz in Boston, Massachusetts, that experienced most of its commercial success during the 1970s and 1980s. Tom Scholz first started writing music in 1969 while he was attending Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he wrote an instrumental song, "Foreplay"
There were 5 band members, not a 3 piece band. The band's core members include multi-instrumentalist, founder and leader Scholz, who played the majority of instruments on the band's 1976 self-titled debut album, and former lead vocalist Brad Delp, among a number of other musicians who varied from album to album.
Boston's best-known songs include: "More Than a Feeling", "Peace of Mind", "Foreplay/Long Time", "Rock and Roll Band", "Smokin'", "Don't Look Back", "A Man I'll Never Be", "Hitch a Ride", "Party", "Amanda" and "Feelin' Satisfied". The band has sold more than 75 million records worldwide, including 31 million units sold in the United States, of which 17 million were the band's debut album and seven million copies of the band's second studio album, Don't Look Back (1978).
This is a link to old photo of the band. The singer is has a beard wearing white suit coat. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_(band)#/media/File:Boston_1977.JPG

Yhanks for your entertaining and insightful reactions! The lead guitarist - Tom Scholz played all the instruments and recorded the album in his basement. He invented some of the devices used like guitar pedals, mixed and mastered the album. He also worked as an engineer at Polaroid during this time.
