    God bless Brad Delp. He never got proper appreciation for his incredible gift. That voice was supernatural. He could nurture a ballad. He could belt without losing tone or musicality. No disrespect to Daltrey or Plant, but Brad could sing powerfully without screaming. He was a true master. I wish he had known how much he meant to his fans, how loved he was. RIP dear man.

    I was just a kid. I remember laying on the speaker deck above the back seat in my parents cutlass supreme staring up at the night sky through the back glass, listening to this song. I couldn't get close enough to the speakers. Nobody used the seatbelts. We only saw them when we were fishing in the seat cracks for matchbox cars. And they were NASTY. So grateful for the gift that my parents gave me unaware. They were just listening to the music they loved. But they were planting a love of art. Musical art. These guys, (and many others) were phonetic Picassos. They started my journey. A journey I can relive through your expressions and your appreciation for it. Thanks again and again for the break from this caustic environment we all navigate through daily.

      Yep. Possibly the most homemade multiplatinum album in history, certainly before this current home recording renaissance. The only musicians credited on the first album that actually play on the first album are Tom, Brad the singer, and Sib Hashian on drums. Tom Scholz played every instrument besides drums, and Brad Delp sang every vocal.

    • @powoodworker1751
      @powoodworker1751 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, he recorded it in the basement of his apartment building with Brad Delp on vocals and Tom doing all instruments. Epic records signed them and insisted he rerecord the tracks. So the debut album you buy is not Tom and Brads original "basement" demo.
      Another fun fact(s); Tom has a Masters in Engineering from MIT. When they were recording the demo, he worked at Polaroid and is rumored to be one of the creative minds behind the one step Polaroid camera. He also took a break from music for over 6 years ( a court ordered stipulation of breaking his contract). During which time, he concentrated on his inventions, including, the now much sought after Sony Rockman Amp. After the 5 year ban on recording, the band reunited for Third Stage with the hit Amanda.
      Boston is one of the few bands that has an extremely limited library, but has made an incredible impact.

    What you're seeing Jamel is one of the greatest Rock Bands ever! Their debut album sold off he charts and is still one of the best selling albums of All-Time! This album and still stands the test of time. Do some research on founding member Tom Scholz. He wrote the first album while working as an Engineer with Kodak. He wrote it and recorded ALL PARTS in his home basement! The only instrument he did not play was the drums. He also did not sing lead. Tom is also known for inventing many amazing guitar related effects, most notably the Scholz "Rockman". SUCH an amazing album, and band. Bravo on your pick!

    Boston is my older brother's music. But he shared it and much else with me. And taught me how to fix 70's beater American cars. I took him to see Rush. He took me to see Van Halen. More Than A Feeling is a really special song.

    Brad Delp (R.I.P) was the sound of Boston. They now have 2 singers doing what Brad did, and it just doesn't measure up. Tom Shultz is the brain behind Boston. They have so many songs that are legendary. Thanks for the reaction. I always enjoy watching your reaction. I still think about the reaction you did for fooled around and fell in love by Elvin Bishop. That was classic.

      Absolutely! Another great line is: "So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by. Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky". I think of all the people I've met since 1976....some of them becoming best friends that I had amazing times with.......and then it faded away and I have no idea what those folks are doing these days, or if they're even still alive. But the memories are still legendary!

    No one had heard guitar sound like this before "More Than A Feeling". From Wikipedia: "Scholz is an MIT-trained engineer who designed and built his own recording studio in an apartment basement in the early '70s. A rock fan throughout his teen years, Scholz began writing songs while earning his master's degree at MIT.[2] The first Boston album was mostly recorded in his basement studio, mostly using devices he designed and invented.
    After the success of Boston, he founded Scholz Research & Development, Inc. to develop and market his inventions, many under the Rockman brand. Scholz holds several patents[3] related to his work at SR&D over the years."

    Trivia: Tom Scholz was taking Engineering classes at the time and cobbled together a 12 track recorder in his basement from a bunch of 8 track cassette players. He did ALL the music on the first 2 albums with his friend Brad Delp doing vocals. And after they sent the 2nd album to the record label, the label called him and asked WHEN they were going to tour? *gulp* Brad and Tom VERY quickly assembled a band and had them learn Toms music. Crazy!
