    The lyrics are so intense....
'Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
    I was soaring ever higher
    But I flew too high
Though my eyes could see, I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think, I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
    I can hear them say'
    .....
'...If I claim to be a wise man, it surely means that I don't know....'
    Absolutely outstanding!

When Kansas was in the recording session for this album, it was the night before their last day to close it out and I don't know if Kerry had this melody come to him or the lyric, the dude was VERY prolific as a writer of both lyric and melody. But it came to him so he wrote the lyrics down that night along with the basic melody for this.
He came in almost bashful about it saying he had an idea for one more song. This is the last day of the session. They worked this out that same day. The musicianship of this is amazing, vocals outstanding, guitar, drums and keyboard work all works of art. You listen to any element of this song, any piece of it and it's excellent. They recorded it that evening and that was a wrap. This song made them, and it happened in the last day of the session for this album, from Kerry's thoughts the night before.

We were given full access, and had the joy of actually meeting and talking with the band. Believe me when I tell you that they were the most genuine, humble, and kind people you could ever hope to meet. Hardcore Kansas fan here. They're my all-time favorite band, and Carry On is my all-time favorite rock song. Most people know Dust in the Wind, and a few others know Point of Know Return. But they have a lot of songs, and most of them are worth checking out, not just the ones people know.
Kerry Livgren wrote the song (Steve Walsh was the singer/keyboardist), and he was definitely on a spiritual search. Many of their songs from their first few albums had songs about searching. Livgren eventually became a Christian, so he found the answers he was searching for.
But a little more background info about this song, it's actually sort of a part 3 of a trilogy of songs. If you listen to their previous album, Masque, the last two songs on that album are Mysteries and Mayhem, and The Pinnacle. The end of Mysteries and Mayhem fades out, and then The Pinnacle starts with the same riff that Mysteries and Mayhem faded out on (though a little slower). And then the last verse of The Pinnacle contains the lyrics "I stood where no man goes/Above the din I rose". Then Carry On's first verse begins, "Once I rose above the noise and confusion", and of course, the word "din" means "a loud, confused noise". So Carry On sort of picks up where The Pinnacle left off.

Except he didn't have the lyrics of this song until the LAST night of their recording session for this album. In fact it wasn't in his head at ALL until the last night of this recording session, so one song didn't lead to the other. He wrote lyrics as it came to him, so you could envision it that way, but that's not how it happened.
And to show how outstanding of a bad they were, after Kerry wrote the lyrics down the night before the last day of the session, he went in the next day with basic melodies and the lyrics, they jammed with it that day, recorded it that evening, and all the parts of this are amazing.
And this is from their documentary. It's on YT, and you can give it a watch.

Internet did not exist so there was no Sirius, Pandora or You Tube. The number 1 way to listen to music was radio. As a 22 y/o dude in '78 I listened to a couple of the local FM rock stations. When Dust In The Wind came out it fit into multiple categories and was played on multiple stations and played and played and played some more. DITW is a very good song and I know that people love it. Cheyenne Anthem is one that always makes my heart bleed. But it's another one where you need to calm yourself down and just listen without any kind of judgement while listening. This came out sometime in the 1970's...I'm here listening in 2020. Absolutely looove this song! It's even my husband's current ringtone...lol. This is just one of those timeless classics! It'll never get "old". 💯🤘🎶

Wow you guys got to this song so much faster than I expected, and at the beginning of the video when you mentioned how you were waiting for a classic rock banger to hit you I thought "just wait until the end of this song" haha. Great video, I'm glad you guys seem to love this song as much as I do. This was the main song I wanted you guys to get to for classic rock week but I've seen some other people mention "Chicago - 25 Or 6 To 4" and "Deep Purple - Burn" so I just wanted to say those songs would be great for classic rock week as well. And of course I'm going to leave my main suggestion for when you guys do metal again. "Cult Of Luna - Nightwalkers" is probably going to be instant playlist material for you guys.

A fellow "Wheathead" here, I'm soo glad they enjoyed it as much as they did. I agree on your other suggestions too! Hopefully they will (and others) explore more Kansas, as they were soo MUCH more than their "Hit Singles" and were an epic "Progressive Rock" band.

You could probably class the entirely off the show Supernatural as a Chevy commercial 😂
Not to mention a conduit to bring great classic rock to an entirely new generation. Even if you don’t like the show, I think people should respect it for that alone.

I know this is classic rock, but I feel like you guys haven't done much Metalcore and definitely not Hardcore.
      Metalcore
August Burns Red - Majoring in the Minors or Mariana's Trench
Killswitch Engage - Fixation on The Darkness or Life to Lifeless
Parkway Drive - Breaking Point or Five Months
As I Lay Dying - The Sound of Truth or Within Destruction
All that Remains - Six or The Air That I Breathe
Stick To Your Guns - Bringing You Down or Where The Sun Never Sleeps
      Hardcore
Coldworld - Refuse to Lose or Cold World
Bad Seed - Real Rain Pours or Through My Hands
Biohazard - Black and White and Red all Over or Business
Trapped Under Ice - Jail or Pleased to Meet you
Turnstile - Can't Deny It or New Rules
Dead End Path - Stay up Stay Alive or End on End
Have Heart - Armed With A Mind or The Machinist
      Thank you

Epic! Saw them at the Canada Jam at Mosport 1978. Nightfall came and this multi-talented band played "Dust In The Wind" to a sea of lighters. Lead singer looking cool in his shorts, t-shirt and long hair. Still touring and saw them in Toronto the summer of 2018.

Robert Fripp tends to have a problem with their stuff being posted by other people (even if it's just album covers) so it might not be a good idea for the channel.
If they do decide on King Crimson, I'd like them to do 21st Century Schizoid Man to just to see if they recognize it.
