You will regret it, I made it 3 months and just ordered an iphone again, the screen is great but the OS sucks.
It depends on user preference. My first smartphone was a 3gs then I'd had Itouch 3rd gen, 5th gen, Iphone4s, Ipad Mini. I had started with ios. But I just got tired of jailbreaking it because I wanted a customizable phone. I wanted a phone that I can freely do a lot with regard to software, and Apple users will agree with me when I say Ios doesn't permit that. You only get to do what Apple permits you to do. That's why there's a thing as "jailbreak". So basically, I got tired then bought a Galaxy s3, my 1st android phone and since then I never went back to Apple. Not once had I missed it. To this day eventhough I had a chance to use iphones bec my husband has an ip14pm my sons had an ip11pro and xsmax respectively, I don't get envious nor even curious. Even with the 14pm when I tried using it once compared to S23ultra it seemed so simple, so basic. I love the freedom and customizability of android. So at the end of the day it all comes down to user preference.
I totally agree. I had the fold2 and now the fold5. I could never go back.

I disagree that it is 2 devices in 1. It's actually 3 if you consider DeX mode then there is no need to take a laptop with you as well....

Having a phone that works well for what you use it for is more important than having a phone that can do something more than another phone.
@Mario-gy4wx yes I use DeX quite often, especially when I travelled or was away from home. Wireless keyboard and mouse with a cable just in case the TV in the hotel needed to use a wired connection rather than casting. 😀

well, i have Fold5 and 15PM..Fold5 is really good on my hand, screen is amazing. love Fold5 and have no regrets at all!. and 4 days ago i upgraded from 14 Pro to 15PM..love the Natural Titanium Color!. the only thing is apple's ecosystem is much better than Samsung's. somehow Apple's ecosystem works flawlessly.
I have them both. One for personal use chatting, facetiming family and friends in different groups and the fold 5 for work and entertainment. I like both phones. Got a good deal on both like every year, $500 for the Fold 5 after trade and discounts & $200 for the 15 Pro Max after trade and discount. Definitelymade for different users and while I love the fold and use it the majority of the day , this is a power user phone and I cam see why it doesn't appeal everyone with an iPhone.

I have the fold 5 and an iPhone SE 2022. I prefer small phones but I loved the idea of minimizing a phone and tablet. Multi tasking is the big thing for the fold. I’m on my SE watching this video and corresponding on the TH-cam app.
I’m sure you’re right, no doubt. I’m on an old iPhone 8 Plus (one of my favorite devices) but I also carry a Galaxy A42 5G that I’ve had for almost 3 years. This phone has been a workhorse even with just a Snapdragon 750g and I really like the One UI.
I’ve been with the iPhone since the second one came out. I started watching your video because my son wants the fold phone. But now that I’ve watched your review, I think I’m going to keep it and give him my old iPhone.

The screen should be 6.7 inch at least when it is folded. The reason is most of the time, people use the phone with smaller screen on the go. and looking at the phone, i don't think the screen size is that big. Its actually compromise on size for opening the fold which I don't think people do most of the time.
big screen is considered only when people at relax mode or position. On the go it is rare and difficult to hold.
When phone opens the it should be having 2 * 6.7 inch screen which is better size.

It sure does have Wireless DeX! I have used the Glap controller before, that fits it in nicely and its Bluetooth!

The comparison between S23 n iPhone 15 is even worse. First off: in the states, the iPhone 15 is $829, not $799 as advertised. There’s a $30 carrier connection discount. Discounted from what? The original price of $829, slimy. So for $829: 60hz, last years chip, usbc 2.0, no aod, no fps, no multitasking, …. Samsung doesn’t pull this crap. S23 is already reduced to $699, prob more during holidays.

Hello from the otherside of the planet. You are the frist who explain what the Z Fold 5 is for and that the main display is the innerdisplay and not the front one. Most of the reviewers says that the front display is to narrow and that the Pixel Fold and the OnePlus Open (or the chinese ones) are much better (by the way all of these are great folding phones too). But the Z Fold 5 is THE perfect 2 in 1 phone. On the front you can read or write messages, notificatiosn etc. For details you open the Fold. It really is a work horse. Why should I buy a Pixel Fold when the most of the time I use the front display? The Z Fold is multitasking and entertainement in perfection and the S-Pen is very, very useful. AND DEX! I am an Adobe guy and the last weeks I did not really use my Notebook to work with. I never go back to a normal candybar phone. Thanks for you 5-reasons-contribution 👍👍👍
Thank you! Lots of people tend to review the fold as a conventional user, but the fold is meant to change behaviours! Not continue to follow the current usage rules. Glad someone else gets it!
Agreed. Been a mac user for decades and finally took the first step to try something new. And Fold5 it is.
My take is, one has to reset our perspective mindset to appreciate a new experience to enjoy the F5. And not use it with a Apple user mindset.

Few things that are holding me back from the Fold series
1. The black line of death, which still happens a lot in fold 4 after a few months, fold 5, had just come out for a while, so we don't know if it still carries the same problem or different issues. My colleague who holds a fold 4 also experienced his fold4, not able to open fully. Yes, maybe some things can be covered by warranty, but the data in the phone is worth more value than the phone itself to me.

3. The aspect ratio for gaming on the inner screen

I switched to the Zfold after using iPhone for the same amount of time. I just ordered an iphone again, I only made it 3 months with the zfold 5.
You can't send full size images via text. You can't send video or any type of file at all via text. You will find that the ease of use and integration of the iphone is something you didn't recognize, if you switch.
The password management is horrible, often a multistage process.
There are many reasons I am going back to iphone, the screen is the only good part of the Zfold, I have an iPad for that. The zFold didn't end up being the iPad in my pocket that I had hoped.
Only suggestion is to just do it. 😀

I have the Fold 5 and am very happy with it. Nevertheless, I ordered the iPhone 15 Pro Max. But I don't think I'll ever be without the Fold 5's open display again.

I made the switch after being a lifetime iPhone user, and i couldn't be happier. This device is a phone, tablet, and computer all in one. What more could you ask for? Im using imessage on the z fold 5 as well using blue bubbles, So there honestly no cons for me switching.

The camera specs are stronger on paper, but that doesn't necessarily translate to better quality for the final product, especially the videos. There have been multiple tests on this and for a lot of people the iPhone 15 Pro Max's photos and videos still come out better.

I have a MacBook and iPad (which I use w my iPhone 14 pro). My biggest concern would be switching out of this Apple ecosystem, especially for Notes (I love Apple notes) and Apple Music (I make playlists with music I’m making). These two apps seamlessly sync across my 3 devices. If I went with this Fold 5, I assume I would need to use new apps for notes and music. Any thoughts?
Apple Music available on android, you’re good to go.
This is my issue too. I use Apple notes a lot and I’d need to transfer those over.

As someone who recently switched from iPhone to the Fold 5, I can answer all these questions. 1, Apple Music is also available for Android and it works the exact same was it does on iOS, meaning yes, it will sync your entire library when you log in with your Apple ID. 2, When i switched, the best way to do it is to use the Smart Switch app which transfers all your data from iPhone to Android, including Notes, and yes, there is a Samsung notes app that functions very similarly to Apple Notes. Also, all your notes will copy directly over to the Fold 5 too so no need to do any complex backing up/transfers as Smart Switch will automatically do that for you. I hope this helps!
As an Android user, I can see that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is an outstanding product. But what keeps iPhone users invested in Apple is the fact that there are better apps for both the iPhone and iPad. To me, it defeats the purpose to have great hardware and not much by the way of software. Yes, this is changing, but the uptake isn't fast enough. That stated, I can never go iPhone and iPad as I do not like Apple.
Not true on the phone. Perhaps the iPad, but quite honestly the iPad Mini 6 has been disappointing with so called optimized tablet apps.

I tend to agree with the original post. I'm a samsung user all around, but I also have an iPad. I have a house building app on my iPad that I would have paid for if I was still invested in using the iPad. But I cannot get the same app on my z fold 5. Sure, there are similar apps on android, (similar but not the same) and the options aren't nearly as good as the options on the apple store. I do use an app that I paid for on my fold but as I said the options aren't as good. I'm sure it's the same with a lot of apps.
That made have been true 10 years ago, but now there's virtually no perceptible difference. In fact, many of Androids apps are way better. I know because I switch back and forth.

The one thing that we cannot discount is how seamless IMessage and FaceTime is. Yes, there are other apps to communicate but it’s just not as good. I have been on the fence for weeks about switching from my 14PM to a ZF5 but what holds me back is durability. I’ve seen dozens of Reddit posts where ZF3/4/5 users have been blind-sighted by Samsung for warranty claims. As an Apple user, I know nothing will happen to my PM14. I’ll see how the ZF6 looks next year. Great video

This is where I'm at too. I've got an 11 Pro Max still and I'm due an upgrade. I'm bored of iPhones but with how much these phones cost, I don't want to spend close to $2k on a Fold 5 and be playing Russian roulette with the warranty like so many people online have reported. Z fold 5 inner screen one fine day will be the same as Z fold 3. Line in the center of the screen. I switch from Z fold 3 to iphone 15 pro max. For tablet on Z fold. It better to get the Tab S9 ultra 5G.which has the 14.6 inch screen😂 rather than 7.6 inch screen
The 15 Pro Max is better in most of the categories that matter. Battery, Cameras, Speed, Speakers, Build and software updates. I was very tempted buy the Fold 5 but after having a play with one, I still don't get the appeal. Yes it has a big screen but you have to open it to make use of that and I feel the once the novelty has worn off, I'd end up just using the thin outer screen more often to take calls, browse social media and take photos. Sort of defeats the object of owing a folding phone.

In my country, Indonesia, 15PM is more expensive than Fold 5 with the same storage capacity. The price for the 512GB 15PM is around US$1900 and for the Fold 5 512GB around US$1700. how ridiculous considering the features of Fold 5 offers are more than the 15PM. luckily I already have fold 5. no regrets

They have pushed the boundaries of integration though, you will find out just as I did.

I'd love a fold but as I've been using an iPhone for over a decade, I'm too locked into the IOS platform. If only the fold was totally compatible to run the apps I'm used to when using my Apple email/calendar accounts.
The Z Fold is fully compatible with desktop Chrome apps that have much more than email/calendar :) iOS is the non-compatible closed system :(

@@5euk In investing the strategy is to admit losses & go forward. iOS is intentionally not compatible to lock you down. There are >5.5bn devices compatible with Android (+ChromeOS +HarmonyOS). You have huge choice of value, functionality, size, & future-proof applications with so many innovative contributors. Most of the good apps are free & xSystem.
You would regret switching, I made it 3 months, 3 months of frustration and appreciation of the apple ecosystem.

I had a fold 4 , it’s good but has some major issues . The fold 4 front screen is too narrow , it will drive you mad over time . The hinge on the fold will eventually fail causing you to take the phone to Samsung if it’s still under warranty . I would stick with a slab phone until Samsung makes a reliable product.
These foldable phones from Samsung are still prototype that were not supposed to be sold to the public,my inner screen on the z4 fold cracked the phone was replaced by an iPhone pro max I’m so happy

Not really! 57% people in the US own Iphones. It’s the best phone out there. The samsung fold looks interesting but the phone experience you get with iOS is unmatched

@@DimitarBerberu I am moving out from Apple but the funtionality between devices is much easier in the ios enviorment. Like homekit (you can have all automation apps in the ios enviroment without lets say use google or other apps), airdrop, nothing is easier that pick and drop. However, the reason I am switching again to Android after 7 years on iphone is because I like the z fold 5. It is handy. Also, interact between ios and android, setup calendars and all what I need between my kids and I are so far sufficient. Plus Iphone 13 I have battery has very poor performance. However, in both I hate to open fitbit to sync my watch. I wish all other providers had the same compatibility with apple watch were if you are too far away sometimes you have to go to bluetooth and resync the device.
@@Fr4nkSanchez iCar is safe/easy as you are not allowed to move out of your lane. Restrictions to not make better for me - I prefer full functionality on the phone when I'm out. At home I mostly use PC with 2-3 4K screens.
Since 2011 I cannot live without S-pen productivity, now with BT remote. I upgraded my lowest radiation Galaxy Note 10+ (iPhone 12 banned in France) because of 200MP 8K video when I go O/S to see my father (he still uses my Note 4 with replaceable battery;) & having option to not carry the Sony camcorder with only FHD (but proper zoom slide & lens).
I will be fine with this for long time & will be watching the progress of HUAWEI Mate X3 with excellent design & hopefully better Harmony OS with IoT connectivity (next-gen OS).
I'm sure Z Fold 5 is great with larger screen. At home I prefer PC with 2-3 4K screens. Google assistant does some automation & might resume with Alexa.
I only use simple Amazfit 7 band for sleep/hearth tracking, as my phone does other things with better functionality. I only miss microSd replaceable ≤1TB mem, but can use fast Samsung T7 2TB backup.
Samsung smart cover is great - protect & turn off screen with small info window.

I get more value from using my phone than planning to stop using it.
The value I get out of using a fold5 is more than it would be from an iPhone 15PM.

I just got the Fold 5 Samsung gave me 1,000 for my iPhone 14 pro max
There is no doubt that the fold seems appealing and practical, but the fact is that is still perceived as an experimental product and not without reason, people have had the screen get a black line down the middle where the big screen folds, and Samsung doesn't cover it. If you could buy them with a peace of mind then it would be a good product, a little overpriced aswell.
In my country, they do cover it for the first year. You can also buy extra 2 years warranty on Samsung care+.
Look, I don't know what those people do to their phone, but mine is working well after more than 1 year. Hinge still feels robust like day 1

One reason why i switched back to apple is screen calibration, samsung still can't figure out how ot properly calibrate screen (of course I'm talking about standard / natural mode - not vivid oversaturated) since I work in creative filed it's important to me to view images and websites in their intended color and iphone have the most ture to srgb /p3 calibration I've seen matching almost perfect my pro monitors which I use for color grading. Samsung have always too warm white point and colors that are too off the chart + that terrible gradient banding, I've checked fold 5 in samsung brand store and the problems are still there. i don't understand how company that makes best screens, and also makes screens for apple can't calibrate them properly. Hope it will change with fold 6 since I love this device and still using my note 10+ as my side/fun phone :)
Samsung creates the screens & knows how to better callibrate. If you talk about video then it's just taste & hype. Google can do better with less hardware but all is far from reality.
Apple cannoot compete with absent 8K/30fps video (S23 Ultra) & night accuracy vs iPhone made up assumptions & pleasing the audience, not reality. Does your audience understand the difference of your bias?

Although, it’s very cool technology, You’re forgetting one important factor… The Z fold 5 does not fit into an Apple ecosystem. It does not run iOS. It runs android.

Galaxy Fold 5 is 100 x better than any Apple ... Apple only had the following phones: iPhone, then iPhone 4S and iPhone 6 and that's where they finally ended...everything else is just a silicone visage of their boss during presentations
