      Completely agreed. This is the problem with reviewers only seeing the iPad by the lenses they insist on. They are trying to figure out how to make it a MacBook rather than seeing how people who have actually made this device useful in their lives are using it. I’m an Architect and use the Ultra wide angle all the time to capture construction progress and sketch out iterations on site. I now have to capture such moments via my phone, which isn’t an iPhone btw, then transfer and sketch. That camera wasn’t there for document scanning or general photography. I served a practical use in apps like morpholio.

    End Ipad OS and just make it the artists MacBook. That's my vote.
    (Edit)
    Valid point some people made: or a less restrictive Ipad OS.
    Although i say this because it seems to be apples approach to advertise to artists with iPads as of late. Which we know is not the best mode for creation. That and due to the annoyance of having to carry both my MacBook and Huion tablet in my backpack, the idea of having an iPad as my workhorse sounds nice, but since it's so limited… i ended up selling the one i had. At one point, I used my iPad and sidecar, and it was alright, but there's no incentive for developers to think about iPad screen size for desktop applications UI. So putting it all on one for developers to have this in mind and making my backpack load smaller would be nice

The hardware is incredible, but at the moment the only application that is better on iPad than MacBook Pro is something like procreate. The apps that would revolutionise the way I work if they were actually entirely useable on iPad would be things like the Adobe illustrator, Photoshop, indesign, figma, Miro, etc but at the moment they are just hollow feature-lacking and glitchy versions of their computer selves. The iPad has the potential to truly revolutionise the way we design (not just illustrate), but at the moment the IPad is just an incredibly powerful tool that can’t provide thorough enough usability on essential design applications to make it worth purchasing in addition or instead of my MacBook Pro.

    Artist here. I have been waiting for Apple to add hover and barrel roll rotation since the very first iPad. The only other stylus that could do it was the Wacom Art Pen, which they discontinued earlier this year. It makes a huge difference for artists used to traditional media, so honestly those things on their own are worth the upgrade.
    I am disappointed that there is still no eraser though. I know they added features to swap tools, but it’s not the same. The eraser is fast and intuitive and eventually they need to break down and add it. I’d prefer that over haptics any day. Wacom is still superior in that way, plus no charging necessary so they can create a comfortable grip, unlike Apple Pencil with its flat edge that is so uncomfortable to hold long term. Apple still needs to make better tips that are narrower, but they are steadily narrowing the gap which is nice to see.
    One thing I’d be curious about for the matte screen texture is durability because that texture is much better to draw on. Wacom uses textured screens specifically to make drawing feel more intuitive. I have to add a PaperFeel screen protector to my iPad to get a similar experience, so I’m wondering if this is another feature that was intended for artists but marketed to the masses as being anti-glare to justify the cost of development. If it can hold up against scratches well, then I would go matte every time right from the start to avoid bubbles in screen protectors. That would explain why it’s only on the higher end models since they know their artist audience will want it.
    Procreate for painting and Nomad for 3D modeling are still some of the best software on the iPad and in many cases can outperform full computer software, so they really needed their hardware to catch up. From my perspective, this feels like a long time in the making. It certainly isn’t going to appeal to everyone, but it’s not supposed to.
    I don’t care about thinness though. Honestly it’s awkward to hold and draw on because you feel like it’s going to bend on you. A lot of times I just wanna kick back and draw with it on my lap or stomach, but I feel like I need a lap stand to use it that way which defeats the whole thinness aspect. Better battery life would be preferred.
    As far as where to put the pencil for charging, I think they were attempting to make it feel natural for both right and left-handed users. Putting it in the middle makes it easy to reach regardless of handedness. It’s better than when companies just default to right-handed interfaces. So much of my life has been a struggle because most of the world is engineered for the opposite of what I need. Like it would be nice if Apple let us calibrate touch for lefties. It defaults to what looks right to right-handed users, so I often hit the wrong letters when typing because it’s offset in the opposite direction from what I need. Similar issues pop up with software menus and interfaces. I’d prefer being able to charge to either side-it would store easier in bags and just feel more natural overall-but the current design reduces costs and makes case and stand manufacturing easier, so charging in the middle is a minor complaint all things considered.

    I will be upgrading to the new iPad Pro 13 from a 2nd generation iPad Pro 12.9. The 12.9 has developed an issue where touch randomly stops working and the battery drains rather quickly. The 12.9 was an upgrade from the original iPad, which means I am getting 7 years between upgrades. Hopefully, this new super thin iPad Pro will survive 7 years.

  • @sergeyegiyan9577
    @sergeyegiyan9577 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +198

    On the whole thinner iPad point: this is not exactly new in the industry. Galaxy Tabs have been 5.4-5.7mm since Tab S7+, which came out in 2020 and was all-metal. Since then there were 2 more generations without any sound durability problems, Samsung even introduced 14.6 inch monster Ultra model, which is 5.4mm.
    If you have followed Apple, you'll notice how familiar this move is and that it is a part of their strategy. They wait until competitors do proof of concept and iterate 2-3 generations of any feature, then they introduce it with a spec bump. So take something Samsung has tested for 4 years, then make it even a bit thinner (5.1-5.3mm vs 5.4-5.7mm) to become a market leader. This is classic Apple move.

    • @valuemastery
      @valuemastery 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I did that comparison in the Apple store when I bought my Studio Display, which does also offer the nano texture. The effect of reducing glare is phenomenal. While I can control the lighting in my workspace, so that no lights directly reflect on the screen, on the normal glas I still can see a light reflection of my face in black areas, while this is completely gone with the nano texture.
      On the other hand, the nano display had considerably less contrast and looked a bit washed out, while the normal one has really great colors and contrast. When displaying text or fine details like fine lines, I could see that the edges of fine details like on letters are washed out and softened a bit, which annoyed me.
      So it comes down to your requirements. Are you working with images and video, and can't control the lighting in your workspace? Then the nano texture could be right for you.
      When working mainly with text, for example web browsing, writing documents, programming, then the standard display is way better.
      Personally, I went with the standard display. From what I've seen from the new iPad reviews so far, the advantages and disadvantages of the iPad nano texture are exactly the same as on the Studio Display.

Prior to that, I had the 1st gen Pro, which still worked fine, but I just wanted the new one. My wife's iPad air is 4-5 years old and she hasn't complained about any issues with it.
    As far as tech goes, iPads are the most "durable" device out there. There's very little reason to ever buy the new one outside of just wanting the new one. My 1st gen Pro is still in a drawer somewhere, and I bet it'd still be completely usable (assuming the battery's not completely busted) even though it came out like 8 years ago.

    I bought the 1st iPad Pro in 2015 for about $800-900. I used it EVERYDAY for 2-6 hours for work and play. I gave it to my Mom after getting the latest model Pro in 2022 for myself. Mom is still using the 2015 iPad Pro 9 years later. Can’t live without. VALUE vs the low spec iPads that I used in my car (they lasted about 4 years until out-dated). 5 years from now I’ll buy the new iPad Pro in 2029. 😊

      How has the battery held up? Ever had to replace?
