Hey, regarding the 1080p DeX limit on your S23 Ultra - within the MultiStar plugin in Good Lock, select "I ❤Samsung DeX", and toggle on "High Resolutions for external display". This will unlock 1440p on your S23 Ultra! It also unlocks 4K 60Hz support on both S23 Ultra and Fold 5! (and 1080p @ 120Hz too! The screen must be fully off for 120Hz to work, so no AOD or trackpad screen) The USB-C port on the S20 and up phones all support 4K @ 60Hz, but it's been disabled in software and the MultiStar within GoodLock can enable it again.
Got the Fold 5 after having a iphone 13 pro max for the better part of 2 years, was going to wait until the end of my return period before resetting the iPhone and giving it to my wife to make sure I wanted to keep the fold, not even a week in and the iPhone is reset and hers. LOVE the fold so much. Was waiting for it to be refined and perfected and I think Samsung almost nailed that aspect this year
That was a great comparison video. The fold 5 has some definite advantages that I wasn't aware of. I have the s23 ultra and it would be hard to let go of.

Why would you get a new phone half a year after your previous phone though It’s your money, you do you, but that seems a pretty expensive purchase for something that you absolutely do not need, certainly your current phone has at least four years left in it before you start missing out on any sort of actual functional use

I have the s22 ultra and now the fold 5. So the only thing I miss is the better camera on the s22 ultra. Other then that the screen space blows the ultra away its like a mini tablet. Not to big or small just perfect for remote work in IT
And there you got me…ordered the Z Fold 5 today😂 Flip is cool and I will use it for business, form factor. I use my Ultra for Photography and Fold 5 for my daily driver. It’s just a special thing. It’s just a very special device and nothing out there is comparable at the moment. Great video Alex , you just nail it every time 🎉
Z Fold series owner for 3 generations here. Slight improvements for sure year after year. Biggest issue is that Z fold series has inferior water resistance, dust resistance, battery life and camera just to name a few and I've had problems at one point or another with all of them! (compared to the S23 Ultra). S23 Ultra is the right choice based on my personal experience. Not to mention significantly cheaper which you can use the extra money for tons of available accessories if desired.
Great comparison. Fold 5 for me. As you pointed out, Fold 5 cameras are really great. It is really boring to hear from many other TH-camrs Fold 5 would have just a medicore camera. Only the 10x zoom is missing, but this does not change the fact that the other lenses are still excellent.
I kinda expected that you gave your preference over to the Fold 5 eventually. Not gonna lie, ever since my 1st time diving into Folds in the last 3 years, i prefer the wholesome experience of the Folds compared to any Candybar phones nowadays and definitely you can do more with Folds. Nothing beats multi-tasking of Samsung Folds imo. ZFold4/S23U user here 😁✌️
Tbh i can understand the productivity side of the fold. But that is where a laptop fills in the gap for me. Also i could not go back to a smartphone without the 10x zoom (i use it way to much for capturing small details in landscape as well as the 200MP for wide landscape photos).

I switched from the Flip 4 to Fold 5. Wow, can you fall in love with a mobile phone? I did. This is a total new experience. I always have a tablet with me and folded it takes less space in my pocket than the Ultra. I've seen so many video's and reviews and I believe much of the criticism is unjustly. Comes from people who haven't used it properly and for a longer time. Battery is great, camera is great, multitasking is without competition.... Looking forward to seeing more video's 👍 Oh yes, to answer your question, I removed the protection from my Flip when it started to peel off. Felt better afterwards. So I will do the same with the Fold the day I see it peeling off from the edges.
Very good video Alex. I use them both and they are in there own league the best phones you can buy right now. I was also stuck in the Apple eco system for years but now i found i way of using them together. And what a joy!! So after not using the Iphone for months anymore i sold it today! The tab S9 ultra is also a killer!!

Swapped from S22 Ultra to Z Fold5 and I absolutely love it. Only thing i have to complain about so far is I miss my stylus and somewhere to put it. Obviously the entire phone would be thicker (And as a result too thick when folded) if the stylus would be inserted into the phone like on S22. Battery Life being worse doesnt bother me much and in regards to the camera.. Well i dont really take pictures, (like 180 pictures ive taken and kept in the past 4 years).
I trade my 22 Ultra for the Fold 5 also. I really like this phone. I bought the Samsung case with the built in stylus and it's great. Don't know if I will go back to an Ultra.
It is impossible to compare as they are two different phones. I loved my Z Fold 4 and now I love my Z Fold 5! It is so much easier to get things done for me. It is definitely faster and the software is improved. Also Bixby is working much much better. The big screen, multitasking and the flex mode rock - I no longer need to carry my Kindle. I think I will never ever go back to a classic shape phone! Thank you for the great video :)
I cared about battery life , so i switched from fold 4 to s23 ultra. And boy i am really happy, not only i got better battery but better camera ,system performance also
If the Fold 5 had a camera as good as the 23 ultra or 14 pro max, I’d love to get it. But I just can’t see myself paying almost $1,900 and not having a flagship camera. I know it’s not necessarily marketed toward people who use their camera a lot, but I just expect it to have a flagship camera for the price at least
I gotta ask, what are you taking pictures of that makes the camera such a big deal? Everybody always mentions the camera but only such a small percentage of people are actual photographers amd use the full power of the camera

It's cheaper & easier to just have a really good camera on a phone which is already connected to the internet and social media platforms directly after taking pictures compared to buying an expensive DSLR pro camera separately, editing & uploading those pictures on a PC/laptop on social media.
Just got my Fold 5 and held onto my S23 U. Going to switch back and forth, depending on my needs for the day. My S23U is still being paid off through my carrier, so once it's paid off I will decide. Gives me more time. Really hard decision.

@AlexGTech they each have their key features. The S23 Ultra with that zoom lens, and the Fold 5 for that gorgeous inner display. The Fold 5 inner display for taking photos is amazing! Having a viewfinder that large is next level. Also for editing photos as you pointed out. Also, I like the split keyboard on the Fold 5 for typing. More comfortable!
How is the Longevity of the OnePlus? Been wanting to switch to a foldable phone and I currently have the S23 Ultra but there are a lot of things missing on the Fold Line up that will just not allow me to switch
Hi Alex, your videos are stunning here! I'm new subscriber here. The cameras are not that vastly different from the Z fold 5 to the S23 Ultra: You have the same camera set up as the S23 plus on the Z fold 5. Only difference from both of those flagship smartphones is 200mp sensor and 10mp telephoto at 10x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom! The rest features are the same! I have been nit picking in stores to find the differences between both devices through hardware and Software, and I feel more gravitated towards the fold 5 as my first foldable smartphone in life. I'm just on heavy research and observation before purchasing the Z fold 5 when Black Friday begins. I must say if the processor is excellent then everything is going to be excellent on the smartphone. You have to thank Samsung's special Qualcomme Snapdragon 8 gen 2 for galaxy for this miracle.

I'm rocking the Note 20 Ultra since mid 2021 and I don't ever use the full 108mp camera besides nona binned camera which is 12mp. For someone like you who is a hardcore photographer, should stick with the S23 Ultra. The S23 and plus camera is a set up for consumers who wants quality but only demonstrates general photo taking and video recording capabilities at a flagship level but don't want the extreme like the Ultra version! Simply, you just need to ask yourself what do you use the most and value, the answer is there. 👍
Personally, I also think Samsung needs to expand the external screens of the Fold 4/5 by 4-5mm. But, if you pay attention, all the youtubers who criticize the outer screen of the Fold 4/5, are the same ones who cheered the iPhones Mini, yet, the external screens of the Fold 4/5 are the same width as those of the iPhones Mini 🤷🏽♂️ Also, I remain convinced that, Samsung must release a larger Fold with an external screen 5-6mm wider than the Fold 5, 2-3mm thinner and 1cm longer than the S23 Ultra, a Fold that once unfolded will have a bit the same display area as an iPad Mimi 6, to have full screen videos much more suitable, and a larger surface for multitasking. This will allow, to put a much larger battery 🔋 and especially better camera 📸
Many Fold users, myself included, complain about the narrow outer screen, and it's frustrating that Samsung continues to ignore this feedback. Even the Google Pixel offers a better, more practical outer display. If Samsung ever decides to listen to its customers and releases a Z Fold with an outer screen the size of the S23 or S24, includes a built-in S Pen, and equips it with the best cameras from their top models, I’d gladly spend $2k and switch back to the Z Fold. Until then, I'll just watch them play their marketing games with an underwhelming outer screen and minimal improvements.
I'm still sticking with the ultra series. The z fold just doesn't do it for me. Both the outer and inner screen aspect ratio is kinda weird for me I don't know... I just can't get used to it. The foldable phone that I really like right now is the Honor mate v2.. unfortunately it's not available worldwide 😢
It's your personal preference and I respect that it's your money and you can buy things according to your taste But why exactly do you think the narrow display is inferior ? Do you really think that Samsung can't make a normal outer screen like a normal slab phone? There is a reason they are still sticking with a taller and narrow expect ratio. First you need to understand why folding phones came. Folding phones are thick that's why the narrow aspect ratio is easier to hold than a normal display. And the narrow display is not everything. It's for normal display tasks and Interactions it's not for 80% of usage. If you think your task need a work that can't be done properly in narrow screen than you always have option to open the folding phone and use the big screen. If you really want to do 80% of your task with outer screen and you are not interested in inner bigger screen then you need to ask yourself a question why are you buying a folding phone if most of the time you are using it as a normal slab phone then you should go for S23 ultra or something else. If only 20% of the time you will use big screen after unfolding it...
Well done Alex. I agree on the speaker quality and improvement on the F5 vs. The F4. It was significant for me. Also, the weight and form factor improvement will easily be noticed by previous ZF4 owners. I love my Fold 5.

I had a Z Fold 3. I was waiting for a Fold 5, but the parameters disappointed me. And on the Fold 3, my display cracked in the middle. I bought the S23 ultra and it was a good choice ❤

Great comparison and yeah the harder you compare, the harder to choose between those two. Both have their own perks. I'm still using S21 with exynos and planned to wait after at least 5 years. It's gonna be a huge jump for me.

Agreed on the title of this video. I traded in the fold 4 for the S23 ultra. Just got tired of crappy battery life, outer screen keyboard typing, crappy cameras, and app optimization. I love my S23 Ultra. Nothing to complain besides the fingerprint scan option on screen. It works 75 percent of the time. Maybe being nice here. Prefer the fingerprint scanner of the fold. Guess what? I picked up the fold 5 yesterday. Love the new design. Still feels like the 4. Everything I hated is still there. I feel the battery will be better optimized with the gen 2 chip. But, man, do I trade in my ultra, or return the fold 5, or keep both? 🤣 decisions, decisions,decisions.
I had a Z Fold 4 and got the S23Ultra back in February... Kept the Fold 4. Just bought the Z Fold 5 and sold the Z Fold 4 on Swappa. I couldn't decide between them either, so use both

Hi Alex - We've chatted here several times. I've had my Z Fold 5 for a week. I miss the 10X camera. The Z Fold 5 is chunky in my pocket and I love the screen on my S23 Ultra. I think I"m going to send the Fold back and keep my S23 Ultra.
I enjoyed using the ZFold4 but I hell the camera system of the S23U is amazing (i need the zoom caoabilities). That's why I went from ZF4 to S23U. And I had some disapointment with the ZF4. First I loved the fact that the phone was smaller that other phones and being usable with one hand. But after a few weeks, it wasn't so good. Because of the particular definition, the cropping was bad with image losses (twitter X for example) implying the use of the internal display. Another point was video playback. Most of the videos had black bars on the intenal display and sometimes the display was indeed larger on the S23U thant on the ZF4 internal screen.
Thanks for including a social media portion. I've looked through a bunch of reviews and I was curious how they ran on the fold. I already have a Samsung Galaxy tab S7 but sometimes I have to run and can't bring it with me so that's where a fold would be very nice to have
Glad it was helpful! I always forget that social media aspect. Honestly think Instagram could be better as there's a lot of waste on the display, but twitter and TH-cam is great on it
The S23Ultra was my first choice just for the pen, then I saw the Z Fold 5 and pen cover, and that was it for me. I like the Ultra higher res big screen, but I prefer the bigger fold screen, also I like the smaller screen and smaller folded size than I do the improved Ultra's camera. That said, the pen is the decider for me having had the note since the 3 and find the pen extremely useful, if there was no pen cover for the Fold then I would have had the Ultra without even considering the Fold and its features I preferred, but there is and I have the fold. I don't like the blue colour, but I got that one simply for the silver edges and type c port, as I found my black notes all scratched around the edges over time even with a case and it was visible due to the black/dark grey colour, and silver should hide that, plus my pen cover is dark grey and once on there is no need to remove it unless I need to change the SIM.
I just bought the fold 5 Upgrading from the Note 20 Ultra. While it is one of the best phones I used, I think I am going to return it and go back to my Note. The only reason is that I cannot see the worth of upgrading from a already good phone. Whenever I use the big screen, it does not make the videos that much bigger than the Note's screen. For me, that is a big problem and is why I am not choosing the fold 5 this year. Same reason with the S23 Ultra. My current phone works just the same :)
Something I have also been considering is that, if you also already have a pretty good tablet, go for flip or the s23. If you have an ok tablet and want a better one and don't care for the size, get the fold. The one thing though that tipped the scales is that my gf and I do sleep calls because we are distanced, and I read that discord screenshare doesn't really work well on the fold..
Swapped my s23U to a Fold 5. No brainer for me. The ability of the fold to transform into a tablet is a killer. Quick editing reports, videos, and just browsing alone are a different experience. Im gonna miss s23U's camera & battery life though. Still, i'm not looking back.

The S23U Dex 1080p resolution limit can be fixed with the Samsung Goodlock app: Goodlock>Lifeup tab>Multistar>I 💚 Samsung Dex>'High resolutions for external display', then restart Dex and go to display settings in Dex and more resolution options should be available 👍 It's a shame that Dex resolution is artificially limited by default on some models and not even available on the similarly specced contemporary Flip 5.
When I took a team's call on my fold 5. The person sharing the screen. Their video was completely stretched out. And I couldn't read it. It happened on 2 calls. Have you had that issue?
Camera quality is moot at this point. Nobody is taking gallery shots or printing large format. Learn to take a good photo and it won't matter whether you have the Fold 5 or the S23. Meanwhile, the S23 can't match the productivity potential of the Fold 5. It was an easy choice for me (replying from my Fold 4).
Taking a photo and be able to scan a slide clearly when you sit at the rear of a big conference hall is the reason I would choose one over the other. Not sure which does the task better. Currently using s21u which does the task beautifully.
I have the s23 ultra and to me battery is more important and also that UHD 60 HDR 10 video is incredible. I just miss the micro sd card. For z fold 6 or 7 they have work to do making front the screen wider , s pen inside, better camera , better battery etc
I'm in the same boat as you Alex. I got the S23 Ultra, bought the Z Fold 5 and swap back and forth between the 2. I just can't make up my mind, the both have features I love! It's not an ideal set-up, but I make it work.

as a mom who shoots as sports competitions a lot and needs to zoom in to you think this 10X zoom on the ulta 23 is something i would really benefit from. and as a mom who’s daughter is an instagram model so i need to take a lot of product and modeling photos. Honestly I'm glad I found this video so thank you. A week ago I got the 512 gb version of the z fold 5 before college started, and honestly I agree with you about your review of fold 5. But I'm still discovering all the features since when I was looking at it didn't find much of reviews except for the general stuff at least you went into depth. So far the phone has been working amazing and extremely helpful with class work especially since I broke my touch screen HP Pavilion last fall and haven't been able to repair it since everyone wants 400 to repair the screen but i know there more wrong with it so it'll alot more then that since I can't even connect it to a external display anymore to retrieve my files and sadly the external drive I have was destroyed by classmate the same day. Ultimately it was hard decision to risk on the phone or getting another laptop that would last and run perfectly for three years without crashing or bugging out. The second option was to get a tablet too but I went with a phone since I'm usually multi tasking and on calls while on the go. So I needed something that can handle the heavy work load I usually do and plus my IPhone 14 pro max could and couldn't handle everything I was doing cause with in 2 months already begin to bug out and the whole phone crashed and shut down by it self when I was using it to multi task and study for classes, now the iPhone is just my personal phone and work. But I'll have to wait see how the z fold 5 will do after two months. Another thing I'm also enjoying the video calls alot better too since their more clearer. Will you also be posting a video tips and features to get the most out of the phone and I mean actually video instead what the latest ones about what you should when you get it on first day alot of the videos I been finding are basically same in comparison. So I'm hoping you'll be able too one day

@AlexGTech Your welcome, might a new antenna but be cool to see what you find out. Honestly I'll watch the two videos when they drop. But for accessories honestly I have no idea what would be good since the phone is still fairly new on the market. And I haven't even gotten a screenshot protector or case for it yet. I know for my first two phone was the S10 E and then I went to S21 ultra I used urban armor gears phone cases. I still use it on the s10 e but I traded the s21 ultra for iPhone 14 pro max after a year. But I use UAG's screen protector for the iPhone and honestly I liked it, sadly I use different case brand for the iPhone I forgot what it was but it's slim and durable. I found how durable it was after it was thrown like a fast ball cause my cousin got upset thrown the first thing he saw. And everything held together after the harsh impact against the wall. But ya I haven't chosen a case yet. I know I'll be getting the pocket edition of the s pen on payday, so I'm able to take notes better and for few other things. But can't wait to see what you'll pick for the cases for the z fold 5. And question do have any recommendations for good pair ear buds because I have to replace my old razer true hammer wireless ear buds after couple years and I got them when I started college back in fall of 2019. But the ear buds are slowly going out and glitching.
I wish you covered real productivity apps (outlook, slack, email, office) when showing multitasking. That's crucial for someone who uses their phone a lot for office work.
I just go back and forth between the two, fold 5 is my daily mostly but when i need a great zoom camera or will need the battery to really last i go to S23 ultra although the fold 5 is MUCH better on battery vs the Fold 4. It is annoying that spending 3k (im in canada and use 1tb) on a fold doesnt give me the best of everything yet i keep buying them lol. Great video...your content is always top notch👍

I do the exact same thing. I went to a concert last night and carried both but used my ultra to record and my fold 5 for everything else. I put the ultra up until I need the camera or a regular slab, like at the beach and carry the fold every day.

Went from Z Fold 3 to the Ultra S23. I loved the fold experience when it came to media and streaming. But the Fold phones are just too delicate when it comes hardware. Me and a few other people I know. Had issues after 1 year of use.

Ive used galaxy 2 phones and note phones as my main device since the galaxy s3. Im ready for something different. Ive owned the OG fold and OG razr fold too. I think the fold 5 might be my next phone. Although that oneplus open is tempting

True... sorry, I don't think I did. It's very useful one handed and slightly better than the Fold 4 for typing. Not sure why, but it just feels more responsive to me. Personally, I only use it for quick messages and searches, or quick phone calls.
I have 2 days to decide to preprder and get free buds and watch with the zflip but I'm a note user. I have a s22 ultra that has a cracked screen and went back to note 20 ultra. Contact had finished but the jump from 20 ultra to 22 ultra i couldn't tell much diffrence. Were at a point were samsung ultra phones are at peak and upgrades are minimal. 👍 and subscribed, thanks for the video!

Excellent video. As someone who is torn between the s23 ultra and the z45, it was really helpful to show me the pros and cons and help me make a better and more informed decision. I also want to give you bonus points for not begging for likes and a subscribe but rather asking for it if you found the content valuable and that in and of itself is worthy of a subscriber like from me
The Fold 5 is not a great phone, I tried it for a few days and found I was always having to open the main screen as the outer screen is to skinny, this means the battery life is significantly reduced, I also got the Samsung case but noticed when you remove the adhesive strips and secure it in place you can't get access to the Simm card.... not a great design Samsung. All in all i'd say avoid the fold 5, go for the S23 or spend some more dollar and go back to Apple with the 14 Pro the real G.
New sub here, Iphone user and am seriously considering making to switch back to samsung but this time to the Z fold 5. It doesn't make sense anymore to stick with the iphone
I wouldn't mind the next fold or new concept that makes it look like 2 S23 Ultras folded for the inner display with S23 U current front display. Don't mind a little thicker phone and that'll give awesome battery and built in spen.
Like all reviewers you favour the newest model ive had the s23 ultra a few months now and its flawless the fold 5 has the big screen so content should look better but its not always
Don't know (or care) about other reviewers tbh, but am genuinely conflicted and would struggle to choose one. The S23 Ultra is probably the best smartphone in a long time. The Fold is more capable for my current needs. But only just 🤏

Thanks for the video Alex. I have been using S22Ultra since the first time released. What i am concerning is that i always like to use the S22Ultra Spen to use it as a Remote while taking family photos with Tripod on and also press & hold the Spen button to highlights some text on my Whatsapp apps.. Since Fold5 have the Spen that come with the slimcase, I wonder if the Spen can do the same as what S22Ultra Spen does? If can't.... do you maybe do some test on Fold5 by using the Spen that come from S23Ultra (since you are comparing S23U with Fold5), this might be a good point for those concerning of switching S Ultra series to Fold series...? Thank you so much in advanced!! Much appreciated if you can solve my problem since the preorder almost over here in Indonesia. I must disappoint you, Samys displays are trully a step ahead in some areas but one thing destroys their ultramodern image.. There is a thing that is called PMW and is being used to cut the strain on your eyes.. Where the other OEMs are making a big deal out of this Samy instead decided to not work on that detail and keeps quiet about it.. It is disturbing to hear not a small number of people complain not being able to watch a Samy display not even for a minute before feelin real strain.. 😢
Here is where I am I have the s23 ultra. Love the cameras but the wider display gets annoying. This is where the fold 5 comes in. The slimmer outer display and use of the much bigger inner display when desired. Too bad since it is new there really isn’t battery life comparisons
Yeah, they both have strengths which is making it hard to pick one, but I think once the dust has settled, the S23 Ultra will still be on top, those cameras are just too damn good!

Hey, regarding the 1080p DeX limit on your S23 Ultra - within the MultiStar plugin in Good Lock, select "I ❤Samsung DeX", and toggle on "High Resolutions for external display". This will unlock 1440p on your S23 Ultra! It also unlocks 4K 60Hz support on both S23 Ultra and Fold 5! (and 1080p @ 120Hz too! The screen must be fully off for 120Hz to work, so no AOD or trackpad screen)
The USB-C port on the S20 and up phones all support 4K @ 60Hz, but it's been disabled in software and the MultiStar within GoodLock can enable it again.
Got the Fold 5 after having a iphone 13 pro max for the better part of 2 years, was going to wait until the end of my return period before resetting the iPhone and giving it to my wife to make sure I wanted to keep the fold, not even a week in and the iPhone is reset and hers. LOVE the fold so much. Was waiting for it to be refined and perfected and I think Samsung almost nailed that aspect this year

I have the s22 ultra and now the fold 5. So the only thing I miss is the better camera on the s22 ultra. Other then that the screen space blows the ultra away its like a mini tablet. Not to big or small just perfect for remote work in IT

Z Fold series owner for 3 generations here. Slight improvements for sure year after year. Biggest issue is that Z fold series has inferior water resistance, dust resistance, battery life and camera just to name a few and I've had problems at one point or another with all of them! (compared to the S23 Ultra). S23 Ultra is the right choice based on my personal experience. Not to mention significantly cheaper which you can use the extra money for tons of available accessories if desired.

Great comparison. Fold 5 for me. As you pointed out, Fold 5 cameras are really great. It is really boring to hear from many other TH-camrs Fold 5 would have just a medicore camera. Only the 10x zoom is missing, but this does not change the fact that the other lenses are still excellent.

Selfie photos are not good here with the fold5. But the photo's and video's are good, but not the best there is.

I kinda expected that you gave your preference over to the Fold 5 eventually. Not gonna lie, ever since my 1st time diving into Folds in the last 3 years, i prefer the wholesome experience of the Folds compared to any Candybar phones nowadays and definitely you can do more with Folds. Nothing beats multi-tasking of Samsung Folds imo. ZFold4/S23U user here 😁✌️
Tbh i can understand the productivity side of the fold. But that is where a laptop fills in the gap for me. Also i could not go back to a smartphone without the 10x zoom (i use it way to much for capturing small details in landscape as well as the 200MP for wide landscape photos).

I switched from the Flip 4 to Fold 5. Wow, can you fall in love with a mobile phone? I did. This is a total new experience. I always have a tablet with me and folded it takes less space in my pocket than the Ultra. I've seen so many video's and reviews and I believe much of the criticism is unjustly. Comes from people who haven't used it properly and for a longer time. Battery is great, camera is great, multitasking is without competition.... Looking forward to seeing more video's 👍
Oh yes, to answer your question, I removed the protection from my Flip when it started to peel off. Felt better afterwards. So I will do the same with the Fold the day I see it peeling off from the edges.

Swapped from S22 Ultra to Z Fold5 and I absolutely love it. Only thing i have to complain about so far is I miss my stylus and somewhere to put it. Obviously the entire phone would be thicker (And as a result too thick when folded) if the stylus would be inserted into the phone like on S22. Battery Life being worse doesnt bother me much and in regards to the camera.. Well i dont really take pictures, (like 180 pictures ive taken and kept in the past 4 years).
I trade my 22 Ultra for the Fold 5 also. I really like this phone. I bought the Samsung case with the built in stylus and it's great. Don't know if I will go back to an Ultra.

It is impossible to compare as they are two different phones. I loved my Z Fold 4 and now I love my Z Fold 5! It is so much easier to get things done for me. It is definitely faster and the software is improved. Also Bixby is working much much better. The big screen, multitasking and the flex mode rock - I no longer need to carry my Kindle. I think I will never ever go back to a classic shape phone! Thank you for the great video :)

If the Fold 5 had a camera as good as the 23 ultra or 14 pro max, I’d love to get it. But I just can’t see myself paying almost $1,900 and not having a flagship camera. I know it’s not necessarily marketed toward people who use their camera a lot, but I just expect it to have a flagship camera for the price at least

It's cheaper & easier to just have a really good camera on a phone which is already connected to the internet and social media platforms directly after taking pictures compared to buying an expensive DSLR pro camera separately, editing & uploading those pictures on a PC/laptop on social media.

Just got my Fold 5 and held onto my S23 U. Going to switch back and forth, depending on my needs for the day. My S23U is still being paid off through my carrier, so once it's paid off I will decide. Gives me more time. Really hard decision.
Tough one for sure! I'm leaning towards the Fold right now, the improvements have been quite significant from the 4, even though it looks the same externally. Very tough, as I think the S23U is gonna be phone of the year
@AlexGTech they each have their key features. The S23 Ultra with that zoom lens, and the Fold 5 for that gorgeous inner display. The Fold 5 inner display for taking photos is amazing! Having a viewfinder that large is next level. Also for editing photos as you pointed out. Also, I like the split keyboard on the Fold 5 for typing. More comfortable!
Easy solution. You want battery and a foldable? Buy the one plus open. I literally own all 3 phones. The oneplus open is where its at.
How is the Longevity of the OnePlus? Been wanting to switch to a foldable phone and I currently have the S23 Ultra but there are a lot of things missing on the Fold Line up that will just not allow me to switch

The cameras are not that vastly different from the Z fold 5 to the S23 Ultra: You have the same camera set up as the S23 plus on the Z fold 5. Only difference from both of those flagship smartphones is 200mp sensor and 10mp telephoto at 10x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom! The rest features are the same! I have been nit picking in stores to find the differences between both devices through hardware and Software, and I feel more gravitated towards the fold 5 as my first foldable smartphone in life. I'm just on heavy research and observation before purchasing the Z fold 5 when Black Friday begins.
I must say if the processor is excellent then everything is going to be excellent on the smartphone. You have to thank Samsung's special Qualcomme Snapdragon 8 gen 2 for galaxy for this miracle.

I'm rocking the Note 20 Ultra since mid 2021 and I don't ever use the full 108mp camera besides nona binned camera which is 12mp. For someone like you who is a hardcore photographer, should stick with the S23 Ultra. The S23 and plus camera is a set up for consumers who wants quality but only demonstrates general photo taking and video recording capabilities at a flagship level but don't want the extreme like the Ultra version!
Simply, you just need to ask yourself what do you use the most and value, the answer is there. 👍
Personally, I also think Samsung needs to expand the external screens of the Fold 4/5 by 4-5mm.
But, if you pay attention, all the youtubers who criticize the outer screen of the Fold 4/5, are the same ones who cheered the iPhones Mini, yet, the external screens of the Fold 4/5 are the same width as those of the iPhones Mini 🤷🏽♂️
Also, I remain convinced that, Samsung must release a larger Fold with an external screen 5-6mm wider than the Fold 5, 2-3mm thinner and 1cm longer than the S23 Ultra, a Fold that once unfolded will have a bit the same display area as an iPad Mimi 6, to have full screen videos much more suitable, and a larger surface for multitasking.
This will allow, to put a much larger battery 🔋 and especially better camera 📸
Many Fold users, myself included, complain about the narrow outer screen, and it's frustrating that Samsung continues to ignore this feedback. Even the Google Pixel offers a better, more practical outer display.
If Samsung ever decides to listen to its customers and releases a Z Fold with an outer screen the size of the S23 or S24, includes a built-in S Pen, and equips it with the best cameras from their top models, I’d gladly spend $2k and switch back to the Z Fold.
Until then, I'll just watch them play their marketing games with an underwhelming outer screen and minimal improvements.
I had an s22 Ultra, I love my Z Fold 5, but damn I miss that main screen real-estate as well as the lightness of the phone.

I'm still sticking with the ultra series. The z fold just doesn't do it for me. Both the outer and inner screen aspect ratio is kinda weird for me I don't know... I just can't get used to it.

It's your personal preference and I respect that it's your money and you can buy things according to your taste
But why exactly do you think the narrow display is inferior ?
Do you really think that Samsung can't make a normal outer screen like a normal slab phone?
There is a reason they are still sticking with a taller and narrow expect ratio.
First you need to understand why folding phones came. Folding phones are thick that's why the narrow aspect ratio is easier to hold than a normal display.
And the narrow display is not everything. It's for normal display tasks and Interactions it's not for 80% of usage. If you think your task need a work that can't be done properly in narrow screen than you always have option to open the folding phone and use the big screen.
If you really want to do 80% of your task with outer screen and you are not interested in inner bigger screen then you need to ask yourself a question why are you buying a folding phone if most of the time you are using it as a normal slab phone then you should go for S23 ultra or something else.
If only 20% of the time you will use big screen after unfolding it...
Well done Alex. I agree on the speaker quality and improvement on the F5 vs. The F4. It was significant for me. Also, the weight and form factor improvement will easily be noticed by previous ZF4 owners. I love my Fold 5.

I had a Z Fold 3. I was waiting for a Fold 5, but the parameters disappointed me. And on the Fold 3, my display cracked in the middle. I bought the S23 ultra and it was a good choice ❤

Great comparison and yeah the harder you compare, the harder to choose between those two. Both have their own perks. I'm still using S21 with exynos and planned to wait after at least 5 years. It's gonna be a huge jump for me.

Agreed on the title of this video. I traded in the fold 4 for the S23 ultra. Just got tired of crappy battery life, outer screen keyboard typing, crappy cameras, and app optimization. I love my S23 Ultra. Nothing to complain besides the fingerprint scan option on screen. It works 75 percent of the time. Maybe being nice here. Prefer the fingerprint scanner of the fold. Guess what? I picked up the fold 5 yesterday. Love the new design. Still feels like the 4. Everything I hated is still there. I feel the battery will be better optimized with the gen 2 chip. But, man, do I trade in my ultra, or return the fold 5, or keep both? 🤣 decisions, decisions,decisions.

Hi Alex - We've chatted here several times. I've had my Z Fold 5 for a week. I miss the 10X camera. The Z Fold 5 is chunky in my pocket and I love the screen on my S23 Ultra. I think I"m going to send the Fold back and keep my S23 Ultra.
Your pockets must be small as I have both the fold 4 and S23 ultra and personally I find the fold easier and lighter in the pockets

I enjoyed using the ZFold4 but I hell the camera system of the S23U is amazing (i need the zoom caoabilities). That's why I went from ZF4 to S23U. And I had some disapointment with the ZF4. First I loved the fact that the phone was smaller that other phones and being usable with one hand. But after a few weeks, it wasn't so good. Because of the particular definition, the cropping was bad with image losses (twitter X for example) implying the use of the internal display. Another point was video playback. Most of the videos had black bars on the intenal display and sometimes the display was indeed larger on the S23U thant on the ZF4 internal screen.
Thanks for including a social media portion. I've looked through a bunch of reviews and I was curious how they ran on the fold. I already have a Samsung Galaxy tab S7 but sometimes I have to run and can't bring it with me so that's where a fold would be very nice to have

The S23Ultra was my first choice just for the pen, then I saw the Z Fold 5 and pen cover, and that was it for me. I like the Ultra higher res big screen, but I prefer the bigger fold screen, also I like the smaller screen and smaller folded size than I do the improved Ultra's camera. That said, the pen is the decider for me having had the note since the 3 and find the pen extremely useful, if there was no pen cover for the Fold then I would have had the Ultra without even considering the Fold and its features I preferred, but there is and I have the fold. I don't like the blue colour, but I got that one simply for the silver edges and type c port, as I found my black notes all scratched around the edges over time even with a case and it was visible due to the black/dark grey colour, and silver should hide that, plus my pen cover is dark grey and once on there is no need to remove it unless I need to change the SIM.
I just bought the fold 5 Upgrading from the Note 20 Ultra. While it is one of the best phones I used, I think I am going to return it and go back to my Note. The only reason is that I cannot see the worth of upgrading from a already good phone. Whenever I use the big screen, it does not make the videos that much bigger than the Note's screen. For me, that is a big problem and is why I am not choosing the fold 5 this year. Same reason with the S23 Ultra. My current phone works just the same :)

Something I have also been considering is that, if you also already have a pretty good tablet, go for flip or the s23. If you have an ok tablet and want a better one and don't care for the size, get the fold. The one thing though that tipped the scales is that my gf and I do sleep calls because we are distanced, and I read that discord screenshare doesn't really work well on the fold..
Swapped my s23U to a Fold 5. No brainer for me. The ability of the fold to transform into a tablet is a killer. Quick editing reports, videos, and just browsing alone are a different experience. Im gonna miss s23U's camera & battery life though. Still, i'm not looking back.

The S23U Dex 1080p resolution limit can be fixed with the Samsung Goodlock app: Goodlock>Lifeup tab>Multistar>I 💚 Samsung Dex>'High resolutions for external display', then restart Dex and go to display settings in Dex and more resolution options should be available 👍
It's a shame that Dex resolution is artificially limited by default on some models and not even available on the similarly specced contemporary Flip 5.
When I took a team's call on my fold 5. The person sharing the screen. Their video was completely stretched out. And I couldn't read it. It happened on 2 calls.
Have you had that issue?

Camera quality is moot at this point. Nobody is taking gallery shots or printing large format. Learn to take a good photo and it won't matter whether you have the Fold 5 or the S23.
Meanwhile, the S23 can't match the productivity potential of the Fold 5.
It was an easy choice for me (replying from my Fold 4).

Taking a photo and be able to scan a slide clearly when you sit at the rear of a big conference hall is the reason I would choose one over the other. Not sure which does the task better. Currently using s21u which does the task beautifully.
I have the s23 ultra and to me battery is more important and also that UHD 60 HDR 10 video is incredible. I just miss the micro sd card. For z fold 6 or 7 they have work to do making front the screen wider , s pen inside, better camera , better battery etc
I'm in the same boat as you Alex. I got the S23 Ultra, bought the Z Fold 5 and swap back and forth between the 2. I just can't make up my mind, the both have features I love! It's not an ideal set-up, but I make it work.
yup! I know the feeling! I actually borke the screen on the S23 Ultra last week so now I am forced to use the Fold 5 even more, and I gotta say, it's fast becoming my favourite phone. Amazing what they keep doing with this form factor!

as a mom who shoots as sports competitions a lot and needs to zoom in to you think this 10X zoom on the ulta 23 is something i would really benefit from. and as a mom who’s daughter is an instagram model so i need to take a lot of product and modeling photos. Am having a really hard time deciding between the two because i love the fold and the screen of the Fold
Honestly I'm glad I found this video so thank you. A week ago I got the 512 gb version of the z fold 5 before college started, and honestly I agree with you about your review of fold 5. But I'm still discovering all the features since when I was looking at it didn't find much of reviews except for the general stuff at least you went into depth. So far the phone has been working amazing and extremely helpful with class work especially since I broke my touch screen HP Pavilion last fall and haven't been able to repair it since everyone wants 400 to repair the screen but i know there more wrong with it so it'll alot more then that since I can't even connect it to a external display anymore to retrieve my files and sadly the external drive I have was destroyed by classmate the same day.
Ultimately it was hard decision to risk on the phone or getting another laptop that would last and run perfectly for three years without crashing or bugging out. The second option was to get a tablet too but I went with a phone since I'm usually multi tasking and on calls while on the go. So I needed something that can handle the heavy work load I usually do and plus my IPhone 14 pro max could and couldn't handle everything I was doing cause with in 2 months already begin to bug out and the whole phone crashed and shut down by it self when I was using it to multi task and study for classes, now the iPhone is just my personal phone and work. But I'll have to wait see how the z fold 5 will do after two months. Another thing I'm also enjoying the video calls alot better too since their more clearer.
Will you also be posting a video tips and features to get the most out of the phone and I mean actually video instead what the latest ones about what you should when you get it on first day alot of the videos I been finding are basically same in comparison. So I'm hoping you'll be able too one day

@AlexGTech Your welcome, might a new antenna but be cool to see what you find out. Honestly I'll watch the two videos when they drop. But for accessories honestly I have no idea what would be good since the phone is still fairly new on the market. And I haven't even gotten a screenshot protector or case for it yet. I know for my first two phone was the S10 E and then I went to S21 ultra I used urban armor gears phone cases. I still use it on the s10 e but I traded the s21 ultra for iPhone 14 pro max after a year. But I use UAG's screen protector for the iPhone and honestly I liked it, sadly I use different case brand for the iPhone I forgot what it was but it's slim and durable. I found how durable it was after it was thrown like a fast ball cause my cousin got upset thrown the first thing he saw. And everything held together after the harsh impact against the wall. But ya I haven't chosen a case yet.
I know I'll be getting the pocket edition of the s pen on payday, so I'm able to take notes better and for few other things. But can't wait to see what you'll pick for the cases for the z fold 5. And question do have any recommendations for good pair ear buds because I have to replace my old razer true hammer wireless ear buds after couple years and I got them when I started college back in fall of 2019. But the ear buds are slowly going out and glitching.

Just sold my flip4 and am picking up a Fold 5. Can't wait. I went for the 512gb model. I agree that the mic on the Zfold5 sounds better than the S23
I wish you covered real productivity apps (outlook, slack, email, office) when showing multitasking. That's crucial for someone who uses their phone a lot for office work.
I just go back and forth between the two, fold 5 is my daily mostly but when i need a great zoom camera or will need the battery to really last i go to S23 ultra although the fold 5 is MUCH better on battery vs the Fold 4. It is annoying that spending 3k (im in canada and use 1tb) on a fold doesnt give me the best of everything yet i keep buying them lol.

I do the exact same thing. I went to a concert last night and carried both but used my ultra to record and my fold 5 for everything else. I put the ultra up until I need the camera or a regular slab, like at the beach and carry the fold every day.

Went from Z Fold 3 to the Ultra S23. I loved the fold experience when it came to media and streaming. But the Fold phones are just too delicate when it comes hardware. Me and a few other people I know. Had issues after 1 year of use.

Ive used galaxy 2 phones and note phones as my main device since the galaxy s3. Im ready for something different. Ive owned the OG fold and OG razr fold too. I think the fold 5 might be my next phone. Although that oneplus open is tempting
Unless I missed something, you didn’t once mention the outside screen of the fold 5? Bit strange, as it’s the screen people interact with in the first instance and will use most for things like social media. 15 minute video without even a mention 🤔
True... sorry, I don't think I did. It's very useful one handed and slightly better than the Fold 4 for typing. Not sure why, but it just feels more responsive to me. Personally, I only use it for quick messages and searches, or quick phone calls.

I have 2 days to decide to preprder and get free buds and watch with the zflip but I'm a note user. I have a s22 ultra that has a cracked screen and went back to note 20 ultra. Contact had finished but the jump from 20 ultra to 22 ultra i couldn't tell much diffrence. Were at a point were samsung ultra phones are at peak and upgrades are minimal. 👍 and subscribed, thanks for the video!

My fold 5 arrived yesterday. Beige. Beautiful phone. Kept my S23U just in case. Always good to have a backup phone anyway.

The Fold 5 is not a great phone, I tried it for a few days and found I was always having to open the main screen as the outer screen is to skinny, this means the battery life is significantly reduced, I also got the Samsung case but noticed when you remove the adhesive strips and secure it in place you can't get access to the Simm card.... not a great design Samsung. All in all i'd say avoid the fold 5, go for the S23 or spend some more dollar and go back to Apple with the 14 Pro the real G.
I didnt have much luck with the 14 Pro, but I think it was mostly iOS 16's fault. I do love my Fold but I respect it won't be for everyone.
New sub here, Iphone user and am seriously considering making to switch back to samsung but this time to the Z fold 5. It doesn't make sense anymore to stick with the iphone

I wouldn't mind the next fold or new concept that makes it look like 2 S23 Ultras folded for the inner display with S23 U current front display. Don't mind a little thicker phone and that'll give awesome battery and built in spen.
Like all reviewers you favour the newest model ive had the s23 ultra a few months now and its flawless the fold 5 has the big screen so content should look better but its not always
Don't know (or care) about other reviewers tbh, but am genuinely conflicted and would struggle to choose one. The S23 Ultra is probably the best smartphone in a long time. The Fold is more capable for my current needs. But only just 🤏

Thanks for the video Alex. I have been using S22Ultra since the first time released. What i am concerning is that i always like to use the S22Ultra Spen to use it as a Remote while taking family photos with Tripod on and also press & hold the Spen button to highlights some text on my Whatsapp apps..
Since Fold5 have the Spen that come with the slimcase, I wonder if the Spen can do the same as what S22Ultra Spen does?
If can't.... do you maybe do some test on Fold5 by using the Spen that come from S23Ultra (since you are comparing S23U with Fold5), this might be a good point for those concerning of switching S Ultra series to Fold series...?

@@protectork9831 durability isn't the problem. It's dust resistance, dust getting in between the hinges for the fold/flip is the downfall
I must disappoint you, Samys displays are trully a step ahead in some areas but one thing destroys their ultramodern image.. There is a thing that is called PMW and is being used to cut the strain on your eyes.. Where the other OEMs are making a big deal out of this Samy instead decided to not work on that detail and keeps quiet about it.. It is disturbing to hear not a small number of people complain not being able to watch a Samy display not even for a minute before feelin real strain.. 😢
Of course you would reco the Fold 5 right now. Lets see 6 months from now when the 24 Ultra comes out.
Here is where I am I have the s23 ultra. Love the cameras but the wider display gets annoying. This is where the fold 5 comes in. The slimmer outer display and use of the much bigger inner display when desired. Too bad since it is new there really isn’t battery life comparisons
Yeah, they both have strengths which is making it hard to pick one, but I think once the dust has settled, the S23 Ultra will still be on top, those cameras are just too damn good!
