That's actually one of the big reasons I'm thinking about switching from the s23 ultra.. this things a beast. I use the one handed mode but love the big screen, so the fold makes more sense
I just want the front screen to be wide enough to be able to text efficiently. When using the phone at work (or sometimes in public) can't always open the phone. So that and better cameras would be perfect.
I recently got the z fold 4. My first folding phone. I am in love. Whats shocking me is how much I love the cover sceeen. Having a one handed device is so refreshing. If its a little wider it wouldn't bother me but i hve zero issues using the narrow screen. Love it
I bought Fold5. It is my first foldable phone and I don't want to go back to a normal phone. It is so much better to use beautiful big screen with "boxy" aspect ratio compared to those screens that normal phones have.
It's good but not durable. In 9-10 month you need to change inner protective film. In 1,5 year your phone will go to service up to 30 days, under warranty, because of folding mechanism. Samsung will repair it (replace with new one, include new inner screen) but you will need a new phone. If it's ok, it's fine. So it's better to sell it in 1 year after buying. But the price for used Samsung phone's, especially foldable is dramatically low.
I just went from my Z Fold 3 to the s24 Ultra and I would have to say, I'm missing my Fold 3. The Ultra is a nice phone but I think I'm going to send this phone back and either get the Fold 5 or wait for the Fold 6. Really having regrets switching phones.
Same, but I love the ultra24. I only miss gaming and watching TH-cam on the inner screen. Never felt the multitasking worked like I hoped. it was just too big and too small all at once
I had a working ZF3 for 6 months refurbished from Amazon till it died out of any warranty. Got the S23U and after 6 months had to get the ZF5 LOVE IT! I won't be getting another Z Fold until the S pen is internal and works on cover screen with latest camera and wider cover screen.
I think the inside camera should remain for full screen video conferencing. Even if it does lack in quality to the others. Gaming and video play is nice having the camera hide and camera module hiding. They could improve it which would be better.
Switched from S23U, and never even considered going back except for 1 reason - battery. First week of Fold 5 was "scary", it was still adapting to my phone use, and there was danger to having it die before the day ended (never happened). But I'll chalk it up to the phone not adapting yet + too excited to use the phone, hence a lot more screen time than the S23U. But yes, the battery wouldn't last, like 2 days, unlike the S23U, but I'm always never away from an outlet or a powerbank. Aside from that, the only other 2 things are cover screen + protection. Cover screen is perfect. You can use it 1 handed, or even 2 handed. Not a small guy (not too big either), but it's perfectly useable. Sure not as big as a S23U, but honestly, S23U is borderline on being useable and unuseable, and again, this is coming from a guy on the taller side. Protection - of course, it being a foldable opens it up to more possible, damage, but what can you do? All in all, the novelty of a foldable phone is always present to me. I sometimes find myself just picking up my phone, opening up the inner screen... just because *I COULD* and of course, it gets a couple of looks when in public. Slapped this fold with a good phone case with a stand, and it's perfect for my daily use of watching movies and reading documents. No S-Pen, but honestly, used my S-pen on my S23U maybe 1 time this year, and I don't really miss it at all. ----So I bought a case that does not hold a pen, and I can thoroughly enjoy using this phone with 1 hand. Fully enjoying how sleek it is. Cover screen being "small" is a feature to me, not a downside AT ALL.
I just got the 24 Ultra a week ago was thinking of getting the Z Fold 6 but i had to think for that price i can get the S9 Ultra tablet and have something bigger and serve my need.
Great review. Wife had a Z Fold 4, she loved it, screen protector cracked (which they all do), Samsung replaced it but it came back with pixel burn in it. They wouldn't replace phone but gave money back, disappointing because she really liked it.
I did. Had 24 ultra and returned it in my 14 day return window and got the fold 5. And I have zero regrets and will never go back to a brick phone again!! Will upgrade to fold 7.
I went from a Galaxy s20 and a Microsoft Surface Pro to the Z Fold 5. It is the perfect phone. I never use my Surface Pro anymore. I like the narrow outer screen. I like everything about it.
Thanks mate, great review 👍 JB HiFi currently have ZFold 5 on sale $1'999 AUD for 256gb or $2'199 / 512GB. 1 week ago they also had a $400 voucher to use on top of trade in! I have a Flip 5 and wishing to upgrade to the Fold 5 for my aging 48 year old eyes. I love my Flip for it's compact design yet I un Flip it too often as the cover screen is way too small to view anything. I plan to do exactly as you state using the front screen for usual phone activity (EG: replies to notifications, general phone usage) whilst opening / unfolding for viewing content on that large mini tablet like screen. I am a semi pro photographer owning Fuji XT and XH mirrorless gear, I plan to use the Fold for minor tweaking via light room in post production, post to Insta, etc especially whilst shooting landscape work travelling around Oz. How have you found this experience in your opinion for 'on the go' editing? I plan to start a channel and use the Fold for editing as well. Any advice on your experience here? Perhaps should I hold off for the Fold 6 / Fold 6 ULTRA or maybe Pixel 9 Pro FOLD (IF that releases in Australia come October this year) BTW... its refreshing to see an Aussie's perspective on the Fold 5 for a change. Just subscribed to your channel
Might be good to wait and see what the Fold 6 has to offer imo. The fold 5 however if you can get it at a good price is still excellent for casual editing on the go!

If they made the phone wider while closed, as literally EVERYONE asks constantly, they would make space for an s-pen. Sometimes I just cannot understand the stubbornness of samsung...
this is not a so-called "long term" review, it's just a review because there's no detailed usage scenarios described, no battery statistics, no bug notices or even co.parison to its predecessor (z fold4)
Swapped to the oneplus open and can't emphasize just how unnecessary it is to have that narrow width. The fact is you can't use the phone unfolded at all times because it's a tablet. If the outer screen is only for at a glance then it just pins you in a corner. You can have a normal screen and a tablet instead of an odd screen and a tablet. Samsung needs to catch up.
I tried both, I understand your logic. I went with the fold 5. The narrow width of the samsung makes it easier for one hand use opposed to the one plus. When I need more screen then I'll just open it up. Narrow screen for quicker simple things. I don't need two big screens
@@MrMikeDao the opens screen is a bit wider but the phone is thinner. I had both at the same time. Both were identical to use one handed. It's screen is the same width of a standard iPhone screen.
Hey! It's been 4 months. How is your OnePlus now? Are you satisfied with it? I'm planning to buy one soon but am afraid the screen might break or something…
Love my fold 5 I bought it recently bcz of the size of Fold 6 would be bigger dont know will be better depends how thick and how much it weighs, but I like the front screen to be smaller bcz of one hand us not have the biggest hands myself. I love the tablet function now I got it all a phone handsize and a tablet. For me the perfect Fold would be lighter and less thick and ofcourse mybe better cameras and so on, but love the size to use as a phone and tablet to use as tablet!
I’m tired of the Samsung apologists saying the outer screen is great for one handed use. Pick up ANY phone with one hand and tell me you can’t reach all the way from the left to right sides. I’d argue the extremely tall screen makes it horrible for one handed use. And if that screen ratio is SO good, why isn’t it used on a single phone in the world outside of the Z Fold? When the Z Fold 6 sales flop… then maybe Sammy will wake up!
i had a giant dual screen lg phone before this. both screens massive. the smaller narrow screen really is refreshing to me and feels insanely nice to use. granted i have small hands so maybe thats why.
I am a professional photographer and this is totally not true. I have a Z Fold 5 and the photos are really good. In some situations more polished than S23 U...

yes and i wish it would have been 21:9 aspect ratio, not the weird 23.1:9

same here!
I think the camera on the tablet is necessary. People probably want to do video calls with the tablet open. Doesn't need to be taken away.
Love my Z Fold 5. It's very convenient for me to use both closed and opened up.
