You don't need to add the spacer. Simply loosen the set screw on the body of the upper guide and reverse the stem that goes from the guide body back. It moves the roller over about the distance of your spacer. I just figured this out while fighting the same problem. It isn't documented.
My upper thrust bearing did the exact same thing. I remedied it by removing thrust bearing and adding washers to move bearing out more. Very happy how new Carter guides work. You did a good job on the video.
I have the same saw! It was my father’s, and I inherited his whole shop. I use it for my smaller, finer projects since I also now have a Laguna 14-12 for cutting large turning blanks from green wood.
Wow that sounds like you have some great tools. Thanks for watching and commenting I'm hoping to upgrade some day but this should work for years to come👍😎
I had the floor model version of that same bandsaw that I bought at a garage sale. I just wasn't happy with it, so I sold it and bought a new 14 inch Jet and I love it!
One last thing for anyone else doing this upgrade. I don't understand why there is nothing to fix that lower bladed guide from moving forward and backward either. I used Jam nuts the same way as shown here. Anyone looking for the nuts, they are 3/8-16 and Lowes (in my are a anyway) sells them coated black for .35 each - Item # 1339819. Thanks to Spindles Workshop for posting this, it did make it easier to take the plunge.
G'Day Luie. Great review and repair. MY THEORY is: The newer the product, the less likely things will line up when repaired. A bit of Bush Mechanics always works. Now to fix mine!!!! 👍😀 Rob
Top guide.. behind thrust bearing; the square rod with a slot in it, spin that rod 180°. It’s concentric, moves the bearing over a bit. Worked for me. No shim.
Good review Luie, my saw has roller bearing guides but like yours needed some tweeking to get them all in the right position. I also reset the guides every time I change blades. STay safe, John
Great review Luie, I had a Craftsman band saw like that from the early 1960's. I bought it at a garage sale and used it for years. Great little saw. Same guides and I never upgraded it. I have a Delta 14 inch from about 1948 with similar guides and have been wanting to upgrade them. After seeing your video I am not so sure. That lower bearing on the left should be adjustable. And I am surprised it did not come with the rear bearing as well. Your video is very helpful because I now know to check and make sure the kit does everything. I also doubt if your bandsaw is out of whack and needed a shim to get it to line up. If it was messed up it would change as you raised and lowered it. Thanks for the video! Gary
Thanks for watching and commenting. yes I agree the saw is not out of wrack I just wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. like I said it was easily remedied and the saw runs much much better than it did
@@spindlesworkshop9744 I suppose the fact they made that 12 inch band saw for many years there could have been small changes here and there. Lucky it was where you had to shim rather than remove material to get it lined up.
Hi Luie... great review and that looks like a big improvement... I recently re set and re did all the adjustments on my bandsaw... it makes such a difference... now I use them so much more... and I think you will too... great video... take care...All the best.....Andy
Well I can’t be certain without being there to see but maybe it needs new tire or if your blade is dull or perhaps the v belt that goes to the motor. Those are my initial thoughts But again I can’t be certain because I am not there. I hope that gives you a place to start Let me know if you figure it out 👍
Good review Luie I hope your saw works well for you from now on! I have heard lots of good things about Carter products and maybe those items were just missed by whoever put your kit together! Thanks and have a great day! Cheers Al
Did you really see a big difference in its performance. How much did the up grade cost. I have the same saw. Also garage sale item. Just tuned it up and found a cracked pulley and a keeper clip that wasn't on properly. Is it worth it to replace wareblocks with rollers?
I absolutely would recommend the rollers to me it was night and day! as far as the cost I think I paid $160 bucks for it but I believe it runs closer to $200 now Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

Hi Luie, Great video. I have the blocks on my bandsaw and as far as I'm aware I can't get rollers for it. It's a DeWaldt 3501. As you said I'm surprised you didn't get the back bearing for the lower guide and the left hand bottom roller should have be adjustable. Great upgrade and I hope it serves you well for a long time. Take care Luie. Cheers, Huw
Thank you for watching and commenting It truly is a very good upgrade even with its couple of "flaws" I believe it will serve me well. Only time will tell and it was less expensive than buying a newer saw👍🤞
Hey, have you had to deal with alignment issues on these ever? I got mine with saw dust all over it and noticed the upper guide mout is slightly rotated, causing me to have to shim the upper bearing to get it to align correctly.
