Yup stuff happens and all you can do is carry on. At least you have a nice round feature to center things back up if you decide to do something with it. I like your idea of a glue block. Hope you do as it will give you a chance to figure out how to save a piece. I have had to do the same when I had recess and tenons decide to let go. Take care, Gary
Hey Luke, I've had a couple do the cha-cha across my shop floor to. I think I may have used some of the same fancy words you used 😂😂. It's all part of the hobby. Loved it. Have a great day.

Hi Luie. Great to see you. I could see where you were going with this and I think it is a cool idea. Sorry it didn’t work out, though. I love turning walnut and have a big pile of “oops” next to the lathe. I don’t mind. Take care. 😊😊
Bummer! I hope you come back to it with a creative solution that makes it even better than your original visions. And bravo for showing the “fly-away”. I just saw your comment that you finished it. Looking forward to seeing the final success!
Good attempt and great design idea too. When you went to slow motion I wasn’t looking at the phone at the time and it sounded like a bulldog was attacking you. 😂😂😂
Unlucky Luie. I'd flatten the old recess, chuck up a new block, cut a recess to hold the outside of what's left and glue it in with hot glue. Cheers, Dave
Hi Luie, That's a great shame as I really liked the idea you had for it.. As others have said a glue block may well be the way to go to get this one finished. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
If you can expand your jaws into the opening of the bowl, turn that recess flat and glue on a glue block. Once the clue is cured you can turn yourself a tenon on the block and reverse to finish the top. If your jaws won’t fit into the bowl you can turn a jam Chuck that will fit into the bowl and go from there. I don’t know how many winged pieces you’ve turned, but you are better off turning those wings with as much speed as you can stand. You have a nice piece started there. It would be a shame to discard it now.
Been there done that!
@@tomtackenburg4024 and I will be there again 🤣
