Great video~! This was my first bandsaw that I bought back in the early 90's ('91/'92) and I'm still using it. I use it for my scroll work (as you mentioned) and my Laguna 18BX for my resawing. I've seen this seldom seen bandsaw more often on TH-cam over the last few years. Other than not having a fence specifically for it, I've never had any problems.

I got one of these that was very lightly used. The lower blade guides were sintered steel, but the upper blade guides were actually graphite blocks. I found the original manual online and it turns out the steel ones are for regular blades, but the graphite ones are actually supposed to go with the 1/16” scroll blade. The graphite blocks came with the scroll blade when you bought it, and the saw originally came with an attachment for that which worked differently than the one in part 2 of this video. The idea was that you would put the graphite blocks all the way around the blade and it would just cut itself into a tight fitting groove. In any case you can’t get either the steel ones or the graphite ones anymore. I wanted to put this info here because this video is literally the only good info about this saw I found anywhere on the internet. When I got the saw home I took it apart all the way, cleaned the dust out from every corner, inside and out. I even took the motor apart and brushed out the coils and the speed governor. I sprayed Teflon dry lube into all the tracks and bearings for the tilt head, and inside the gearbox for the crank… it’s smooth as silk now, cranks up and down like a brand new machine. It’s a joy! And of course I followed these instructions to get the blade guides adjusted…

Oh yeah one other thing, you mention the trick with the 2x4 to make sure the table is square to the blade, but you didn’t mention that there’s a set screw in the table right inside the vertical column which you can use to make sure that perfect square blade is where the crank always returns to. Anyway the full manual is here c.searspartsdirect.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0709235.pdf

When I bought my saw, it was set up for the higher of its two speeds. This gave a high blade speed but little power. Changing the belt to low speed upped the power a lot and made resawing 5" cherry easy.

I just picked up a 12" tilthead for nearly nothing..the guy didn't know you could tighten the tilthead lock so whenever he used it the head would drift into a tilt...Anyway I fixed it and it works great. I chan😢ged the blade to a new 3/8 6t blade and new Urethane tires. The issue I have are trying to find replacement guide blocks, I can't find replacements anywhere. My last resort are cutting and drilling some rectangular cool blocks to fit. Any idea where I can find the correct blocks without having to manufacturer them myself? Thank you.

We have one of these with a wobbly 4" poly rib belt pulley. The steel shaft appears to be true but the aluminum pulley bore is worn slightly. Tightening the set screw pulls pulley off center and the poly belt pulls in a tilt. Cant find a replacement pulley as of yet. Sears direct discontinued the part.

I am having trouble getting the removable portion of the table level with the rest of the table. The side closer to the blade is still above the rest of the table even when the set screw is backed out as far as it can go. Any troubleshooting tips? It's been hard finding info on this saw!! Thank you for the detailed video, looking forward to getting this thing tuned up once I solve my table problem!

Hey Alex, i recently got one of these saws for around $25-$35. It is my first bandsaw, and i intend on restoring it back to a usable state for my own small 'shop' that i'm slowly building. I already have a '75 craftsman RAS that i've been restoring, so the craftsman lineup kind of 'belongs' in the garage at this point. Any and all help is appreciated!
The saw is functional, but has many of the issues you'd expect... I'm going to order a carter blade, and the stabilizer as well for scrolling capability, as the current blade is definitely past it's prime.
I'm definitely hearing some other sounds that i can't place just yet, is there an easier way to contact you? I may need to send you a video or two for advice if you're okay with that.

The set screws for adjusting the main guides (not the side guides) are annoying, especially the lower ones. So hard to see them in the first place, then to get an allen wrench to go in. These set screws have 1/4" x 20 threads. I replaced mine with short hex-head bolts. Yes! So easy to see and so easy to get a box-end wrench onto. Just be careful to not overtighten and strip out the aluminum guide block.

I had a craftsman like this… I could never get it to cut straight… moved on to a jet 14” which I really liked but still had limitations so I moved on to a Laguna 14bx which I love… was always my goal to get a laguna… I found the craftsman design to be somewhat goofy with the tilting head instead of a tilting table…. Wish I would of made better use of the craftsman after seeing these videos….
