I love the chilled out music you used! It would actually make a good station theme for the coaster. B&M wings are very graceful.
This year we mini marathoned it first thing for early entry almost every single time of our 21 visits. Probably went on it about 80 times this year alone.
Get an anthem ride- the gatekeeper flyover during the national anthem is one of my favorites
I definitely love Gatekeeper! It's actually in my overall top 10, and my 4th favorite at Cedar Point. This is an A-tier coaster for me all the way. I think I just love wing coasters more than most people do. I've had a couple rides where I got off thinking Gatekeeper could actually be my favorite in the park. It has been that good to me. I've only ever felt a rattle on one ride, back row, left side, outside seat. Every other ride has been perfectly smooth, which is so rare for a B&M. I also grey out on that Immelman every time.
The talk of the wait times begs the question: when were you there? When Fast Lane is in full operation, the left is devoted to Fast Lane. I was there last week of August 2019, when most kids were back in school but a lot of people apparently hoped more would be. Also with their new Gold pass deal the park may be more crowded at all times.
Hehe, this WAS my first looping coaster. It was because I have only been to Cedar Point once and it was worth my friends. Their tradition is to ride it right away.
Those GK trains didn't rattle at all until the last couple of years. For the first five or six years this was the smoothest coaster I'd ever ridden. Also, that dive-loop turnaround is awesome in the back. You must have blinked!
This was my second looping coaster, but definitely the coaster that made me overcome my fear of rollercoasters.

Really excellent review! I totally agree, it is a B tier at the park but would be a first class ride at any park in CA. What you didn't mention however is its sleeper badass neighbor Intamin shuttle launcher Wicked Twister. That was the total surprise amazing ride of the whole park for me, I had no idea it would blow me away. Gatekeeper was exactly what I expected it to be, which is a beautiful, graceful first class B&M that is overshadowed by so many amazing neighbors.
Love this ride. One of my favorite at the park and the one I have ridden the most!!

I think it gets overshadowed simply due to the company it keeps at CP. I think it's a good transition coaster to get GP'ers some notches on their belt before moving up. It's got the height, headchoppers, and inversions without the nonstop blood curdling intensity of Mav or SteVe.
Daniel Lilly that’s the point... he’s saying that the train flows through the track gracefully and the point is it’s not as intense as other rides
I’m trying to get into coasters and my friends say gatekeeper is a good first big coaster but your review seems to state otherwise. Do you have any better beginner big coasters at cedar point?
I haven't ridden Wild Eagle at Dollywood or Thunderbird at Holiday World yet. Just this one and X Flight at Six Flags Great America. By a narrow marge (well not really) this one for sure.
You should do an in depth review like this about Millineum Force too besides just Gatekeeper, Maverick, and Steel Vengeance. I'd definitely watch it. : )

Cedar Point has set a high standard for roller coasters and while this is a good ride, it's not a great coaster for Cedar Point. Maybe it would have been a better fit for a park like Carowinds; then Cedar Point should have got Fury 325 (or Fury 400!). Or Gatekeeper should have added spinning seats like X2. That would have been a awesome fit for Cedar Point.
It’s perfect for Cedar Point. It adds to the variety of coaster you can experience. Wood, steel, winged, inverted, blitz, launch, hybrid, hyper, giga and stratosphere. Cedar Point offers variety. Why have 2 gigas with Fury 325 and Millennium Force? Not needed. Much better with GK and it’s iconic welcome to Cedar Point placement. It’s a great ride.
Isn't X2 basically a wing coaster?
DavidisFunnyGuy Yup....all B&M wing riders were built under inspiration of X/X2, being the first coaster with wing shaped seats, but the difference of course X2's seats rotate.
X2 is a multidimensional coaster (a wing coaster with rotating seats
unpopular opinion: Maverick is #6 at CP, gatekeeper is 3
