This my problem for many years and your video solved it. This is the most important secret in golf thats many instructor cant explain as well as you. Thanks and keep sharing.
I have been working on my iron shot for a while now, Your explanation Clay is fantastic, After watching your video I have adjusted my swing to create more lag and have never hit the ball so solid and long and of the centre of the face so consistently , thanks heaps great video.
I have been working on releasing lag properly for years, and I've watched a ton of tutorials, but slowing down the start of the back swing seems to be a huge missing component. I've never felt this snap at impact or seen angles like I have when doing these drills in just a single night. Thanks for the years of great videos.
Yup, this is what I needed to see. I've been working on the "slow at the top, speed at the bottom" feeling for a while and it has changed my game tremendously. Obviously, I still need to work on it but I'm glad to know that I'm on the right path. Appreciate your simple explanations and demonstrations!
This is a great video.. I've been trying this form for years and finally I found the correct way on this channel. Do you have a video for the driver? Thanks!
Clay thank you for this video. This is one of the things I struggle with especially being a shorter hitter and when I try to muscle it, it gets worse. Cant wait to try it at practice and take it to the course.
You are already relatable, but I like to think of you as Luke Wilson in Old School and before I know it 90 minutes have passed! Joking aside, your approach to teaching has helped my understanding more than I could have hoped for. This video in particular has made something that has plagued my nightmares easy to understand and feel. Thank you Sir!
Golf is like being a Jedi, you gotta start as a kid! I just went to the range for the first time in 3 years and I was crushing balls out the park with me Titleist 905s! I don’t have to practice because I started when I was 11!
Clay, I been swinging with the lag you have been showing with good results. I video taped my swing and my left hand would be in front of my right leg with club shaft horizontal. Making solid impact and straight shots but not getting the distance I think I should. Actually having to one club up for my shots. Have you got any pointers that would help me?
Clay there's a fantastic example for why early-releasing results in "muscling" -- take a look at figure skating, where the dancers would tuck their arms in for the spin, then spread their arms back out for the stop. Maybe giving those examples can help students understand the matter even better.
Okay now finally someone has found a way to explain this in a manner I can progress to. I have tried to force lag by trying to feel my wrist remain set in the downswing instead of just slowing down the momentum as you explained and letting natural forces get me there. Great video!
I found out, that you want to have as little lag as possible when you start the downswing. I don't hinge the club at all with the wrist, keeping the head as far away from the ball as possible when I start the downswing. With soft grip, the lag is building up, while you swing through. Most pro golfers on tour now play like this. Shorter backswing, or no wrist hinge, or even both. 7:15 Watch how he suddenly has no wrist hinge when he swings the club...
Clay, I have been enjoying your video as a novice. I am working on compression and lag and wondering if you would display on your tracking system the attack angle. I find it very useful in my training and it would be interesting to see what yours are for each shot. Thanks for your consideration.
Playing tennis you almost never cast the tennis racket. The racket lags behind because of the bent trail wrist and you are leading the handle of the racket forward before hitting the tennis ball. The motion is similar to the downswing in golf.
I can tell you I have one & it works well for me. You can't hurry anything or the clubface will never be in the proper position. When you 1st start using it, your shots will likely go to the right if you're right handed obviously because the face is open. When you can hit the ball straight, you have it right. The only thing is that you don't want to be making full speed swings with it because it's heavier & you could injure yourself. It's not meant for distance, only proper swings. When you go back to a regular club while you're hitting balls, it'll feel much lighter & you might find you may be hitting hooks or pulls. I'm not a teaching pro but I'd definitely recommend it.
Hi Clay; I don't have a problem creating lag or holding it. My issue is where to release it. Is it at impact or after? My strikes are inconsistent & sometimes fat. Is that due to early release? Thanks.
Interesting… I usually see that I have the club at 90degrees at p6 club parallel in downswing. But my hands are not on top of my right thigh. They seem to far away. Always wondering how this could be caused.
You got a new subscriber, good video but ending was a bit cheesy/sales-like feeling with the preview of the next video or whatever that was... Great concepts though thank you.
As soon as that right knee moves forward, your pivots are done.... it will just come down to timing.... so I don't think you can really be consistent with that move unless you do lots of practice and even then it will be day-to-day...
Trying to hit the ball with the clubhead instead of smoothly swinging the entire club mechanism and letting the ball get in the way will screw things up every time.
Wrong! This video explains how to get REAL lag. I know because I use the concepts presented in THIS attached video. Would you hit a baseball using a baseball bat and a loose grip??? th-cam.com/video/ZRMCk_3V4k0/w-d-xo.html
@@leechaney3703 Did you watch the video?? You obviously DID not. To hold the club like Shawn does, which promotes proper lag, you have to securely GRIP the club! On the scale of 1 to 10, I would recommend a 7-8. Again, try swinging a bat or an axe, or a hockey stick, or a tennis racket with a loose grip!! In all those physical acts, you HAVE to have a secure grip, NOT a loose one! A loose grip promotes a flip at the ball, which causes you to lose you angle and therefore your lag!! I say again, try and maintain proper lag through the contact area with a loose grip!! You CANNOT!!
@@redwave3520 a golf grip can be stationary holding it lightly. You don’t understand the physics behind centrifugal force hitting a stationary ball. Tight grip reduces clubhead speed.
thats the Opposit of what others say. Hands are fastest when they are hight of the hips. However I try for years to get the hands before me. dont get it. still a flipper whatever I do.
while I agree with most of this I think you should have stressed the amount of time it takes for someone who "casts" the club to change that move and learn to lag the club . Chances are they need to fix the path( shallow , which you talked about ) AND learn to lag. That can take weeks to months for someone to change.
Obviously what you suggest is correct, but it sounds like the same story that every golf instructor offers? I wish you all would spend more time on what happens in the first 12 inches of the downswing? My wife doesn't even play golf, but when she watches me at the driving range - she it can recognize a "caster" immediately in the first 12 inches of their swing. Call it mental, call it mechanical, but when you cast in the first 12 inches all of the other stuff doesn't fix the problem?
@@BillKaminski-i1x you assumed that i dont talk about that. when in fact the first twelve inches is what I show my students in how there is a difference in those who lag and those who cast.

Hi do we really have to release the right wrist or just carried through ball impact ?

It's the most frustrating thing to get a feel for.
