Than there must be 106K still looking for their ball😅 Jokes aside, fixing my grip, and swing around my left leg beeing planted to the ground, Finally saved my driver swing..and im so happy!!😇Also very informative vid about ball position mate, and it makes so much sense when having a Fixed low point all the time..Cheers from the fairway😁
There is so much conflicting information in the net and in the world of Golf instruction so many useless tips but you and stack and tilt are one of the very few who really makes sense.you have a logical reproducible system and solves all questions about the Golf Swing. I’ve been practising for years to get a moment where it would click now it’s clicked and I’m not going back to any other way of swinging the club ever! thank you for all the great and free content
THIS! Having struggled with ball positioning for a few decades ... I recently threw that out and said Forget it! My lead shoulder is my new reference point, feet be damned. And the results have been phenomenal. Thanks for such a great video overview AND confirmation... Outstanding teaching.
I often make the mistake of watching TH-cam videos and then heading out to play. I watched this video last night and let it sink in. I hit a few balls at the range before went out and played and noticed a difference. Then went out and shot the best nine holes of my life. I think this tip is a game changer.
A follow-up thought to this as well.. The whole issue of Axis Tilt has always aggravated me. It's never worked to try and drop my left shoulder and always created issues with hitting the ball "fat or thin". If I keep my left shoulder as the "radius of the circle" and keep my left shoulder in line with the ball (vs. shifting to the right), I believe I was hitting the ball WITH axis tilt much more accurately and straighter. I need to get out again and see if it was a fluke (as golf can often do to you), but again - best score of my life today - 10 pars in a row, almost every single GIR (or just 5-10 feet off the green), no lost balls, etc.
My dad at 79 years old has been “teaching” this for almost his entire life. However you need to have a great repetitive swing for it to work to perfection. You need to grip the club correctly, don’t change the position of the club face, if you do it WON’T work. Nothing like a tip from watching you tub then at the end they are selling a book. Learn to be a teacher of the game and not sell books.
I’ve never heard anyone break this down how you have. Pretty much every PGA Pro I’ve had lessons from, say to lean back to add more distance and power when you use driver. I won’t be doing that ever again! And no more foot reference setup. Had no ideal that it’s the front shoulder that is the center of the entire swing! Incredible, thank you sir! I subscribed just now!🫡
He did not say directly to NOT lean back. Leaning back is to increat launch angle which many Ams need. He said leaning back changes your shoulder position so just be aware that the positon needs to be noticed accordingly. His method is for club path and face position. The lean is Launch angle. They are complimentary of each other and takes some practice to train your eyes and feels to a new world order.
You are such an outstanding instructor, Rob, and you don’t know how grateful I am for the many valuable videos that you have provided to us. Like the other videos, I think this one will help me a lot. Thank you!!!
I’ve heard in front of your lead armpit. One ball position. Your trail foot gets closer your lead foot as the clubs get shorter, but the ball doesn’t move relative to the lead armpit.
Since lining up the ball with my left armpit or shoulder & not inside the left heel, my driving has been a joy. I would encourage everyone to follow your advice, Rob.
It's basically the same thing isn't it - if your feet are spaced appropriately to optimally hit a driver? Or does lining it up with armpit put the ball further forward?

This video has been an eye opener for me. I struggle with back injuries and have noticed I often have to change my ball alignment on different days to hit my driver straight. I assumed it was due to my changing body position depending on how sore my back was, the shoulder alignment explains this perfectly. Now I’ve got something to be more conscious of when playing, may help to get a more consistent alignment overall too. Thank you!
HOLY SHIT....I'm not sure what else to say. I've never seen this explained this clearly or in this detail. I think you just explained to me why I'm struggling with pulling the driver. I really like your videos. You get to the point. Too many instructors on the site spend 15 minutes on background and chatter. Love your style. THANK YOU!
Thanks Rob!! Very helpful. I have adopted the S & T philosophy for the past few months and it has really helped me 'bring together' so many different swing thoughts and practice techniques. I was able to break 80 for the first time yesterday and as I hopped on the struggle bus for the last few holes I was able to tap back in to my S & T principles and your teachings and bring it home hahaha. Thanks for so freely sharing your passion and knowledge.
Thank you so so much. This makes so much sense. I have been going absolutely crazy, trying to figure out my stinking problem. I've tried 100 exaggerated swings, trying to get a positive attack angle & couldn't figure it out. Tomorrow, I will try this. Wish me luck.
Best video I’ve seen all year. Nobody has gone in depth with the visuals like this…was wondering why my irons are good, but driver was none existent hahaha! Gotta hit the range now…thanks!!!!
Brilliant! I’ve seen many things/lessons on hitting driver but never like this. Nor have I seen any as detailed and explained so well. Thank you so much Rob
Thanks so much Rob - I watched this video yesterday morning, went to the range for a little warm up before my round and I hit my driver the best I ever have. This video along with your bowler video have changed my game so dramatically . Shot a personal best yesterday by 5 strokes
Happy to tell you that on this Sunday morning in France, everybody in my collective class has been watching your video with a lot of attention. It was also a good translation exercise. Keep up the fantastic work !!
I had been having problems with consistent strikes with driver and irons. As Blackcoud stated below, I have been told to add a back tilt to strike the ball with power. The problem was I was hitting solid shots about 75% of the time and the other 25% consisted of topping my driver and fat shots with the irons. By focusing on ball placement in relation to the leading arm instead of the feet, I experiences more solid contact with all my clubs. Thanks Rob!
So fairway woods and driver for me have always been push slices, even after I got (stack and tilt) lessons and control my irons better than ever. I just couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Watched this video last night and went out to the range today. My ball position was totally wrong this whole time!!! My wider stance and ball on the heel had me push slicing and I had no idea! I hit my first 300y carry drive today and it was ALMOST dead straight, just had that little bit of draw to it 😎. You're a game changer, Rob!!
Rob, you do such a great job on your videos. I run 2 golf leagues and a golf tour in Florida, and I've recommended your channel to lots of my 750+ players. Hopefully we can help grow your reach! I have been struggling mightily with my driver, and heading to play now. I think part of my issue is ball too far forward, as I've topped several lately or hit them thin and weak to the right. Trying to not stand up in the downswing, but I think ball position might also be too far forward.
Wow, I'm going to say it, You are the man! I just came from the driving range and this is exactly what I needed. I kept shifting around trying to get my ball position in the best place for me, and now voila', this was in my recommended videos. I am now going to watch your other driver videos. Thanks a million, you now have a new Subscriber.
I tried this on the range yesterday and got a good result. Apart from a couple of bloopers when I allowed my lead wrist to collapse (work in progress), my drives were ramrod straight. For me, lining the ball up with my shoulder crease brings it about 3/4 of a ball width further inside my stance than lining it up off my left heel. A small difference that led to significant change. Thanks for this tip!
Impeccable timing…, a few of your lessons have coincided with the exact problems I have been experiencing…, my last trips to the driving range have revealed a severe hook to the right, after hitting my irons relatively straight…, I noticed when I move the ball back in my stance with the driver I was able to correct the problem but didn’t understand why…, this lesson reveals my problem👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Straightforward presentation, subbed. Forgot about the lead shoulder alignment and been putting the ball so far forward. Major slice city. Club path also clearly explained.
He did not say directly to NOT lean back. Leaning back is to increat launch angle which many Ams need. I can't wait to try this. I have had a difficult time drawing the driver and I've always placed the ball just inside my left toe and so as not to get my body out in front of the ball and club head, I would lean my head back behind the ball. These "pointers" were picked up by other "instructors" and now I know why it has been almost impossible for me to draw the driver. Essentially the ball has been too far forward and despite trying to swing inside out, I still was swinging outside in and coming over the top. Small changes such as this can give big results. Can't wait to try it soon.
Thanks Rob. This is brilliant and I just got my draw back with the driver. Combo of ball forward and top tilt away means ball is WAY forward. Impossible to draw.... unless it's s duck hook.... or fade to keep it in the fairway. Tried dropping the ball back a little an aiming right. Bingo.... my controlled draw is back. Brilliant explanation of why in this video.
Thanks Rob.Your description is spot on. I have had a number of lessons where I have been told to place the ball further forward for the driver, resulting in in a slice. I now have a better understanding of the mechanics.
Amazing, I've alway tilted my body not realizing how much my ball position changed and couldn't figure out why 75% of my drives were pulls to the left! I will practice this on the range asap. Thank you very much...
Excellent as always. Best to experiment with this at the range to see for yourself what happens when you change ball position but keep your grip, stance, and swing the same.
This was so helpful. I’ve been hitting every club in the bag, but driver, including my five wood, great, and a big part of it was trying to overexaggerate the tilt. I hit a very soft draw in all clubs and then have been hitting a push fade with my driver and lower than all the other clubs this totally explains it, going to the range now to test it.
If I could post a GIF here it would be the Tim & Eric 'Mind Blown' one, you just described every problem I have with my game. The longer the club the more it fades / slices, and no matter what I try with my wrists I keep hitting booming slices or hooks and my best drives are fades. I definitely haven't been paying attention to where my lead shoulder is, just where my feet are and how wide my stance is.
Rob is one of the best golf instructors on the planet. I’m SO tired of seeing these other “instructors”, who post videos of swings, then ask the public what they see. How is that helpful to the golfing public at large?!? There are a small handful of amazing teachers, who provide clear and concise explanations for helping the average player. Rob is one of them. Tom Saguto and Dan Grieve are a couple others…👍
Rob, just out of curiosity, on a mat I just set up with my driver with the ball just inside my heel. I then hung the club vertically from my shoulder/armpit and to my surprise, with a very small side tilt (as we should), my ball was about 1.5 - 2" too far forward. So..., this could give rise to a number of different shape shots from a pull, to a fade, to a bad slice ! This could also explain why mid handicappers sometimes hit a great drive (when by accident their ball position is correct) and then next time hit it anywhere (when ball position is even 1" out) Thanks for this - something I've never checked - along with thousands of other HC golfers !!
At last, someone that explanes an easy way to hit the driver. Always struggling to know why sometimes I hit right and others left and very little straight.
This is EXACTLY my problem. I was completely confused about set up. I flush my irons by not doing much and feeling on top of the ball. With the driver I feel that I’m making a bunch of adjustments with my feet, shoulders, ball placement etc and I’m all over the course. I will try this out asap!
Great video, and superclear information! This made me think about why my "stinger" drives were much more accurate and safe, rather than my standard drives where i always aim to have the ball further forward towards the lead heel, will be a fun experiment to see if i can keep the ball back just a little and launch it higher for a more straight standard drive!
Rob, thanks for this, a really great expiation of something I did not fully understand. My aiming direction and stance i.e. square, open or closed is also highly impactful on the resulting shot.
Thanks for the driver videos, huge help. I gave up on stack and tilt even the my iron play was the best ever, cause I never could figure out the driver. Thanks to your videos I’m close to the best ball striking in years! One question, weight distribution and transfer. Starting about 60/40 left , what’s the weight at the top, then impact. That would be a huge help, please point me to one of your videos for explanation. Thanks again and looking to get back to scratch!!
This makes a lot of sense and will definitely try it out. How does it work with hitting up on the ball? A lot of instructors say the ball is forward to hit up on it. If you're hitting up then you've gone past the pivot of your shoulder and that must mean you're starting to swing out to in. So how do you hit square and up at the same time?
Great explanation. Is there a video explaining the tilt of the upper body with the driver? This also has an effect on the position of the ball. You obviously play without a large lateral tilt.
Great stuff. I’m going to be more cognizant of my lead shoulder in the future. I personally (thru trial/ error and watching many videos) am able to shape the ball with my stance. Fade = right (trail) foot slightly forward of lead foot and vice versa for a draw. For more dramatic results I move the ball forward (fade/slice) or aft (draw/ hook)i n my stance.
Thanks Rob! I have struggled with my driver the past few months. I’ve been adopting the S and T principles and the driver has been my biggest problem. I’ve always hit a slight draw with my irons but the driver wants to fade or slice to the right. This May be the missing piece of the puzzle!
I enjoy all your videos going back several years. Great communicator. I would like some feedback on what the measurements are on the Grid Diagram with the tee claw devices. I have a copy of the original Stack & Tilt book but there is no picture of the Grid Diagram in it. Keep up the good work. Thank you.
Great explanation of ball position. Just going down the S&T path. Already more compression. But getting sloppy with my ball position is hurting me. Crazy that your slice swing didn’t look that bad, but how much position affected the result
Hi Rob -- super video. I think it rivals (at least for me) the swing hard/stop fast, which I thought was the best ever. That said, I already took today's thought to the range and noticed my first few swings had the feeling of too much right hand trying to find the low spot. However, after about five swings, I felt a much more 'left arm' -- I'm thinking that's way better -- swing and really better low point and strike. From here: how about a more in-depth video on aim? Not so much alignment, but 'aim,' as I tend to either get my shoulders more open or closed with this new positioning. Again, great video -- Tom in Texas
Great job and excellent video! I am very decent with my irons but not good with my driver. Now, I know..Thanks! Too bad that I can’t be there for you to check my swings.
This is really helpful. I find with driver it’s easier to make contact high enough on the face if I play the ball more forward so I play more of a slight fade. Do you mess around with tee height at all depending on where you have the ball position
I'm hoping you can help diagnose an issue. In an attempt to figure out my swing, I just had a swing evaluation. Trying to hit driver with the stack and tilt swing, I hit a couple degrees in to out, a couple degrees up, but the face was 6 degrees open, giving me a push or push fade. Can I manipulate ball position or grip to get rid of the push, or do I need something else to control the face?
This makes perfect sense and it works for me with my driver. How about showing the same principle but with say a 4 hybrid, 7 iron, and pitching wedge. I'm expecting the orientation of the left shoulder may change with the shorting of the club vs. the driver.
I spent years trying to follow this type of instruction , i fully understand the relationship of in to out and vice versa , i also understand the consequence of hitting up or down and face angle . It took a long long time though to understand how my body creates power through the hitting area and the difference this creates between how i address and actual outcome , without an understanding of low point AT impact this instruction is at best food for thought , unless you swing at 12 mph you are going to create a very different position through impact than at address and your centre of gravity / low point WILL change , suss this out , suss out how your wrists fire and suss out how you best create speed repeatably through impact , this will give you your shape for each club with one swing motion . From there its just tinkering to gain the most control and best tempo / speed for you . I dont contradict any of the facts stated but its generic iron byron stuff and will only suit 50% at best . Faders fade , and drawers draw . I fade ( or right spin ) wedges , draw irons (unless tee’d up)and fade woods , hybrids i get to choose shape 🤷🏻♂️ I do enjoy your content though .
Hi Rob, interesting video, which I shall be testing out over the weekend. I say interesting as no one has ever said anything about that, I mean that you should use your lead shoulder as a reference, and I have been playing the game since I was eight and now I'm 71 so it should be, as I said, interesting. Watch this space lol, and thank you for your video

The longer the club the more it fades / slices, and no matter what I try with my wrists I keep hitting booming slices or hooks and my best drives are fades. I definitely haven't been paying attention to where my lead shoulder is, just where my feet are and how wide my stance is.
So happy to hear that the video was helpful for you! 👍🏻
CANNOT WAIT TO TRY THIS - awesome explanation, thanks
Good luck! 😉
Brilliant. Simply brilliant. Thank you Rob!
You’re welcome, Steve! 👍🏻
Yet another great video, Rob! I'm one of the people who struggles with driver. I will concentrate on placing the ball under my lead shoulder.
This is exactly what I have been doing but couldn't figure it out until now thank you
Glad the video was helpful! 👍🏻
Great advice! Easy to understand (even for me)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your lessons are solid gold!
My first time watching one of your videos, and I know that I've learned something new. Can't wait to try this out at the range. Good work, keep it up!
This could also explain why mid handicappers sometimes hit a great drive (when by accident their ball position is correct) and then next time hit it anywhere (when ball position is even 1" out)
Thanks for this - something I've never checked - along with thousands of other HC golfers !!
At last, someone that explanes an easy way to hit the driver. Always struggling to know why sometimes I hit right and others left and very little straight.
This is really clever, interesting stuff, will experiment with this. Thanks Rob.
You're welcome!
Excellent tips....especially for driver. Will practice this alignment as it should help manage swing path 👍
This is high quality essential info. Great video
Glad it was helpful!
1st time on a big course last weekend Shore cliffs and man I needed this lol ty for this what a blessing!
My god, another video!. Excellent as usual. Never stop learning. Thank you.
😎😎😎
Rob, thanks for this, a really great expiation of something I did not fully understand. My aiming direction and stance i.e. square, open or closed is also highly impactful on the resulting shot.
Wow! I love your videos. Thank you very much for helping me with my driver.
Glad to help! 👍🏻
Wish I had seen this earlier, went to range after watching this and it works instantly, hopefully translates to the course 🙃
That’s great to hear, Trevor! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Started doing this two weeks ago and I’m driving it so much better. I get positive comments from other players each time I play. Try it
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing your success story!
Very well done, Rob. Thank you so much I will give it a try and leg you know the outcome.
Thank you, very clear and helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
This is huge and crazy underrated from a coaching perspective
Thanks for the driver videos, huge help. I gave up on stack and tilt even the my iron play was the best ever, cause I never could figure out the driver. Thanks to your videos I’m close to the best ball striking in years! One question, weight distribution and transfer. Starting about 60/40 left , what’s the weight at the top, then impact. That would be a huge help, please point me to one of your videos for explanation. Thanks again and looking to get back to scratch!!
Your information is very useful, the grip video you made brought me closer to playing 6 over for the first time...thank you soo much. 😂
Great to hear, Eric! Well done! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great illustration ❤
Thank you so much 😀
Really good clear video. Great content. Thanks.
That was awesome! Thank for sharing that. Set up is so key!
Thank you!
Fantastic tuition which most golfers don't consider.
Awesome video I’ve been playing for a long time can’t wait to try it out to see if it really works
I enjoy all your videos going back several years. Great communicator. I would like some feedback on what the measurements are on the Grid Diagram with the tee claw devices. I have a copy of the original Stack & Tilt book but there is no picture of the Grid Diagram in it. Keep up the good work. Thank you.
Nice, thank you. When i set up in such a manor, i feel cramped at setup and dont feel i have the room to get through contact. Solution?
Great explanation of ball position. Just going down the S&T path. Already more compression. But getting sloppy with my ball position is hurting me. Crazy that your slice swing didn’t look that bad, but how much position affected the result
Thanks for watching! Happy the video was helpful for you! 👍🏻
I only had a chance to watch half this video and it took 9 shots off my best score and made my driver usable again
Amazing! 🤩🤩🤩
@robcheneygolf1 😀 Now, how do I adjust this for my fairway Woods, both teed up and on the deck??
@@jtsola1708 one ball behind the lead shoulder
Great job and excellent video! I am very decent with my irons but not good with my driver. Now, I know..Thanks! Too bad that I can’t be there for you to check my swings.
This is really helpful. I find with driver it’s easier to make contact high enough on the face if I play the ball more forward so I play more of a slight fade. Do you mess around with tee height at all depending on where you have the ball position
This is a very solid vid! Thank you!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏻
Excellent video as usual. Can you do a video on stack and tilt release .
Thanks.
Looking forward to practicing this!
Thanks Rob, Happy Golfing ⛳️
I'm hoping you can help diagnose an issue. In an attempt to figure out my swing, I just had a swing evaluation. Trying to hit driver with the stack and tilt swing, I hit a couple degrees in to out, a couple degrees up, but the face was 6 degrees open, giving me a push or push fade. Can I manipulate ball position or grip to get rid of the push, or do I need something else to control the face?
You should change the face angle via better understanding of your grip/wrists.
Makes so much sense! Can’t wait to go to the range…
I fade ( or right spin ) wedges , draw irons (unless tee’d up)and fade woods , hybrids i get to choose shape 🤷🏻♂️
I do enjoy your content though .
Love it! Wish I lived in Singapore .
Excelente lección Master !!
Saludos de Armando Martín y Dani Martín.
😊
Gracias, amigos! 🙏🏻
Wow great video - I am definitely going to try this!
Great video Rob, thanks!
I hope the information was helpful for your game. Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
Il be trying this on sunday great video and easily explained new subscriber look forward to see more of your vids
