We all at nfst did. I done more refined version of this, closer to how scenery shows it in canyons. Its not ready for release yet as i tweak things. MW's map was too big and lots of placements are very inaccurate.
I actually told him about this video, gave him the link and he was happy that someone made a map mod of Mystery City. I also told him about how the community is about modding now.

1:55 never seen this unknown mountain 3:09 and for some reason the low detail level version of palmont which can be seem in canyons has UG2 pan city textures instead of a new texture 0:22 looks like that the cruise ship spawns near san juan then goes under the landscape and goes around palmont then it goes near fortuna and returns to san juan which is odd, same with planes and on the concept arts there is some interesting stuff, what is that city near the bridge? maybe a cut district? and seems like that there were roads meant to connect canyons but wer cut and on the 2nd concept art there is a possible cut canyon

Fact we race on often closed canyon roads without exact position, life or traffic. It took our minds on a wild ride where we tried to make sense of things. We got closer and closer to it. MW done our first map. It was not as accurate, but was first attempt of ours. i have mapped out the map more correctly and work on refining it for basis to make a map mod to create one extended map of Palmont in coming years.

I was about to take this seriously until I saw the description, which I read before starting the video. I'll still comment what I would have anyway. The map is beta Palmont, which people have theorized as Mystery City. I don't count it as the same as Mystery City is really just background textures. It is cool to see how beta Palmont changed into the final product and how it shows about where Lookout Point would have led into San Juan. Canyons being part of the main map would have been interesting. Was the city in the PS2 Demo a real thing or was that made up for this? At first I thought that the 3D modeled "Mystery City" was just going to be the locked NFS World unfinished connector roads, but wow. The effort you put in is amazing. Does this mean, that we could sometime soon be getting a fan-made update to the World map, unlocking those roads, and/or putting canyons and San Juan back? Perhaps also importing Undercover's map to connect with the Rockport Turnpike? I'm not sure about the map load limitations that Carbon has for doing something like that, but it handles the World map well at least. Good choice in the music. Feels like Carbon. Pretty crazy how we still talk about Mystery City 17 years later. I read Hozy will be porting this to PC. I do not know who Hozy is or how to find the release. Please update the description when released so we can find it.

@Blitz Racing Games NEW yyep cause EA has a tendency of putting these developers under a strict time... that's like Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012 there was supposed to be more then what the actual gameplay is.but because of EA there was cut content... you know if I ran a game company I'd let the developers take their time at developing the game being worked on
See Felipe, this is why I'm so goddamn angry NFS decided to send out that stupid poll to see when they should release the game, they should've just held off another year for development like they did with any other game they do and just kept on expanding on this one as they were going too from the beginning because thanks to the dumbasses in the NFS community who wanted the game in 06 and rushed them, now we will always have to live in wonder of "what could've been" as I LOVE in depth and sometimes complex highway systems like UG2 had. And it looks like they were going to bring that kind of thing back and have the game be just as reliant on top speed but with more acceleration also needed for the shorted city stuff like in the real game. Longer stretches of road and curvier full throttle runs on tarmac is what used to make me love Black Box era NFS. But again, fans being fans, they rushed the shit and now we have the game we have now which isn't half as big as what it as supposed to have in it and was supposed to be as a whole which would've been cool considering how in depth MW was before it. Such a shame. Great video though as I'm glad I can finally see what this mystery city would have somewhat looked like!
