I just saw this episode and I was about to comment that I think it was the 3rd one but figured I better read the comments and we’ll yours is the first one I saw and I agree...
Even from a ps-90 carbine, you would need about 1.000 joules of energy to achieve the same penetration of a regular mild steel jacket 7.62*39 AK-47. Still, when it comes to the movie, I guess the Five-Seven was the closest thing.
@@SalveMonesvol Wasn't it stated in the movie that the bullets were Teflon coated in addition to being pointed? I just trying to recall from memory from when I watched it in 1992. Can't check it right now.
It is also worth considering that the bullet hits the inclined surface not at a right angle, but tangentially. Accordingly, only a small part of the kinetic energy of the bullet is transferred to the surface, the rest simply changes its direction vector and the bullet continues to move along a different trajectory instead of penetrating the surface.
Yeah, we used AR plating in all the rock crushing equipment as liners, because mild steel would wear far too fast. Definitely not because the operators were at risk of gun fire lol so I'd think they used it the same wherever you worked

Lethal Weapon 1 and maybe 2 were good. But once they started pushing the 90’s Clinton assault weapon gun control bullshit it just got fuddey and cringey fast.
Angled armor both increases the thickness of the armor, and makes it act like a ramp and deflect projectiles instead of taking the full force like a wall.
I think the Germans figured this out&were the 1st to slant the armor on their battle tanks during WW2.the 75mm Shermans main gun with the short barrels would bounce off the armor at point blank ranges I was told by my late pawpaw who was a USA-Army WW2 Veteran.
06:25 am i the only one that is hyped about that supressed henry? i love that gun! im really into lever-action rifles and that is the coolest one i have ever seen. love it!
Sort of, but more of a geometry issue than shear strength. The biggest weakness of the German tanks in WW2 was the flat armor. The Russians figured out they could get similar performance with less metal by sloping the armor, essentially thickening the armor because of the angle impact. Less armor means lighter tank meaning more speed. The tigers were more powerful, but the t-34 was faster, more maneuverable and more quickly produced.
Would've loved to see some AP 5.7 rounds against this, they're as close as you can get to the "cop killer" bullets. Speed beats armour and they don't come much quicker than the 5.7

The edge is also very likely a hardened steel, welded onto the mild steel bucket to prevent the edge of the bucket scraping/breaking stones and being deformed.
The coating was not the "armor peircing" aspect. They were made of relatively hard materials like brass and pointed. The teflon was added to save your barrel from excessive wear.

Should have shot at it long ways and hit the super thick plates at the top with the .50. I actually really wanted to see if you could shoot a bucket off of an excavator....😂😂😳
We had a payloader that could easily fit a car in the bucket. That thing was a monster and was never even used for anything close to what it is meant for haha
Been a John Deere mechanic for a while. You’re exactly right. And also the cutting edge will be a lot harder and more brittle than the rest of the bucket.
Those edge pieces are the same thickness as WWI tank armour. I am surprised more rounds didn't make it through! P.S: it was Lethal Weapon 3, his character name was Murtagh & the bullets were mil-spec vectored Teflon coated tungsten. Used by the LAPD SWAT since that Hollywood bank shootout.
That's AR 500 steel you're shooting Matt! That's why it was invented, abrasion resistance for heavy equipment buckets and such. Hence the reason it was so hard to even put a dent in it.
Good demonstration of the effectiveness of angling armor.
My thoughts exactly. Always put your armor at an angle, this is why most cops that wear body armor have big bellies. ;)

"Someone told mere"
Love your intros xD
I was so so close to commenting that the angle was too great but thought I’d hold off. 30 seconds later Matt said the same thing, fixed the angle and sent a round through. He should have fired all the other rounds again though. 🤷🏼♂️
Dawesy D hopefully he does a follow up video shooting it again with it more at a 90. I don’t think the rounds had a chance hitting at that steep of an angle.
This video literally reminds me of “World Of Tanks”
ditto on the holding off on the angle comment! He got there!
A_Random_Person Same!
Agreed.
That mouse in the intro be like: why is their a man here and what is he doing.

Yes, editing in the "Ding!" sound did help.
I mean we learned from one man.

Lethal Weapon 3, but who's counting.
I am. 4 was the one with Jet Li and that movie was awesome.
@@WisecrackJax they were all awesome.... One of the few franchises that delivered on all movies IMO
Matt and most of the subscribers are too young to know anyway so he could have called it deadly gun 5 for all they know.
I'm gettin' too old for this ...
5 was crazy, i cant believe the Chief did that. (mac and charlie = amazing directors)
We just watch "The Mask" with the kids and at one point he is shooting a tommy gun (it wasnt NEARLY as cool as a gold one...) at some guys and one of them jumps in a dumpster. you need to get a dumpster and shoot it!
He actually has one.
I shot a dumpster with a 9mm. Hornaday critical defense from ruger ec9s. Put a big dent and made a wicked echo
Kintucky ballistics did that
Perpendicular please! Thanks for all the awesome videos, you guys are awesome.
Tremors 2. The Bert 50 cal shot scene. Classic!
I remember that. I thought it was just exaggerated cause i was a kid and didnt really know anything about that round😂
Yes! Everybody remembers that scene
BUT They have to shoot the car they drove to the range to really make the scene
Solid effing bronze lol
“Are bulldozers bulletproof “ *killdozer has entered the chat*
Cops didn’t stop him but the engine over heating did
Chaos Gaming correction, cops COULDN’T stop him. I thought it was the basement he fell into that stopped it.
Aaron Mauthe no his engine died so he killed him self
@@manwithacr1054 his tread fell into the basement, and after overworking the engine, it failed and he was stuck. rather than wait for the cops to kill him he killed himself.

Mat must be that guy on your team that never takes cover...
"Its not bulletproof from a 50 BMG!!!"
Or its not tank proof.🤣
*tries to shoot angled armor and realizes its effective thickness is way more that his 50 bmg can hand* “so uh guys, turns out it is bullet prof from a 50 bmg uhhh...”
You let us down bigtime! The "pa-ting" is so iconic to the M1, it´s mandatory! :P

*laughs in HE mechanics*
Such a cute little bucket
Head to any pit mine and there you will find a giant bucket. I have seen buckets at a copper mine where the inside is larger than a suburban. Would love to see him shoot at one of those. Even if just for the laughs.
Exactly what I thought. I've been HE tech for 10 years. That is a tiny bucket.
Been a John Deere mechanic for a while. You’re exactly right. And also the cutting edge will be a lot harder and more brittle than the rest of the bucket.
Clinton Eastwood western movie, when he used the stove cover for armor! Under his poncho.
And then copied in back to the future 3
i think that's a way bad idea because aren't those pot metal? super brittle? right?
You'd want to go with a 45 LC big bore revolver from Heritage arms, or Cimarron to test that one though...
@@stephentosenegg Thought Ramone was using a lever action rifle
'Always shoot for the heart Ramone'
man bro i love that movie
It was from lethal weapon 3 I just watched them all last week
Those edge pieces are the same thickness as WWI tank armour. I am surprised more rounds didn't make it through!
P.S: it was Lethal Weapon 3, his character name was Murtagh & the bullets were mil-spec vectored Teflon coated tungsten. Used by the LAPD SWAT since that Hollywood bank shootout.

Awesome video as always but I wish you'd tried all calibers as straight shots, it would be interesting to see what would make it through
6:25 Had to give you a thumbs up for this. Last time I took my friends to the range I embarrassed myself, so I really respect accuracy.
This guy explains the movie like how my 10 y/o overenthusiastic self would explain it and I love it
When are you gonna get a 20mm. You literally have everything else
Maybe because a 20mm is classified as a destructive device he doesn't want to go through the trouble
After that, when are you getting a tank?
Pshhh forget that. An armory ain't complete unless it's got a GAU-8.
When are you gonna get a mk-19?
Well since everybody’s asking him when he’s gonna get shit, hey Matt when you gonna get a a10 warthog
That's AR 500 steel you're shooting Matt! That's why it was invented, abrasion resistance for heavy equipment buckets and such. Hence the reason it was so hard to even put a dent in it.
Yes and no. Structural welder here. The cutting edge IS essentially AR 500, but the core of the bucket is plain Jane mild steel.
The lip is ar500 but not the center of the bucket..
Was just gonna say what Rough Country Dad said 👍
Nerd
As a former contractor I can confirm that’s ar 500 or 550.
The m1 needs to be on the channel more. Also u need to get a ebr m1
Don't encourage him lol
satch422 that’s the whole point to encourage him to get that DMR on the channel. That rifle is amazing
We need to see some garand thumb action too
