I rebuild those Mueller fire hydrants and I have poured the lead around the nozzles and I repair and rebuild them for the city. The Mueller hydrant is made out of cast Iron, the nozzles and operating nut on top are brass and the lead joints hold the nozzles in place. I actually have about 10 different types of hydrants that I maintain in my system. That was a great video Matt, thank you!

I work on fire hydrants. I can only imagine what the supplier thought when you came in asking for for fire hydrant hose. I guarantee they immediately thought who the hell is this guy.
I was questioning the chance that his rounds are hitting the section of lower stem. If he removed that would the round have a better chance of going through completely
I also work on hydrants. I know how heavy and thick they are especially the older ones. But was still surprised a 50 big didn't make it through.

thomas mcdaniel - at the orchard training range we used to have old 113 apc hulls for targets. they are about 3/4" thick aluminum alloy. the .50 rounds would easily penetrate at >75* but the more acute angles = less likely penetration.
however, because of spawling, there would be a small crater around the front half of the stuck rounds so the noses of them were visible from the interior side of the bulkhead. it looked cool, should have taken photos (but 30 yrs ago.......no cell phone)
