    Great to see that comparison Dave, i had the scarp 1 years ago but the build Quailty was iffy, the vern wins hands down on that front for me. My only niggle with the vern is the low door height, not too bad when im in though, i suspect the low long shape will become increasingly useful in winter weather. Look forward to seeing yhe back to back switchover with Josh. Even with the new TNT fabric on the Scarp i think id still buy the Vern for peace of mind in heavy weather.

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, A. I felt the height was OK for me but have yet to have a night, of course. I agree and bow down to your experience on this on how the tent will perform. The 20D outer gives me slight cause for concern, though it felt at least as thick as the Scarp material. Thanks for commenting Andrew and I hope I added something beyond your first impressions, which was thorough as always. 😊

      Sadly it looks like it's exactly the same design, just a stronger fabric, no collapsible struts like the Dipole either. £100 more for 100g less, I do prefer the looks of it and the pole sleeve would be more rigid, but definitely not worth a sidegrade

      Thanks Tom, I have always wanted a tent that you can open up like that to let the outdoors in, but they were often too heavy, so delighted with this one. I wonder how the Vern would cope on Lukes mountain? Pretty well, I imagine if you get that prow into wind.Thanks for commenting Tom

    Well, the tent is not bad.
    Now we have to test it in extreme conditions.
    Take the tent where there is a blizzard with snow above 3000 meters and then I will tell you which one is king.
    I would like to see if there are water leaks through the seams or if they are already sealed at the factory.
    What resistance and retardation does the material have against fire,
    what resistance does the tent have against strong winds,
    how many kilograms of resistance do the poles have.
    Not to talk about condensation because absolutely all of them condense in humid climates.
    I have tried countless tents and high-end brands and there are two brands that I use the most, both in hiking, climbing and I am talking about above 5000 meters.
    I would love to see extreme tests.
    The price is cheap but not all that glitters is gold.
    Greetings

      Hi cottonsky, interesting comment. This model is now superseded by the new vern 1. Check out my tests on it. Not above 3000m, but you don't always have to go so high to get harsh conditions. Tell me where you have been testing tents and yourself. Sounds interesting!

    Nice test as always, very thorough,
    But why can’t people ( yourself included) who test tents get a big mat say 197x 65 x 7 and measure height and width at each end with a tap measure, as being 6’3” accurate measurements are vital,
    Otherwise the test is among the best,

    The Vern 1 really is just a copy of the Moment DW from Tarptent so a comparison between the two would be more enlightening to me personally. But I am not really a fan of the crossing poles on either design, nor on my own Tarptent Hogback as it’s just too much effort and weight for no great benefit. The tents are great with out the extra poles either way, so that’s how I usually use mine. The Trekkertent SAOR is next on my list if I sell off some of the 1 and 2 man tents I own .. everyone here in Norway seem to love the Unna, just not the weight. The SAOR solves that.

    • @Fellmandave1

      Interesting perspective. But don't you feel when you have 50 mph banging the tent you were glad you put the X ing poles on!

    • @ThePreparedNorseman
      @ThePreparedNorseman ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Fellmandave1 I see the poles as an increased risk factor in high wind. Good for constant heavy rain or snow, but the tension that a big wind gust can put on such a small point on a big fabric panel worries me. The tent in its regular form will handle winds just fine with out the poles, just a bit more flappy like. If the extra poles attached on a seam I’d be more confident.

    • @Fellmandave1

    The Vern 1 looks really interesting, I am sure it doesn’t hurt that it hails from my own home town.
    But at 6’3 / 190 cm, with large feet (uk 14) I am not sure if it is large enough for a comfortable fit. Especially since I use a 10cm thick sleeping pad.
    If you have any input, I would love to hear it.

    I decided against Nortent and I'm looking at the Fjällräven Keb Dome 2 instead. I just can't justify paying out premium prices and receiving a tent that is not ready to use immediately, it really rubs my fur the wrong way. If it needs working on to use it, then its not fit for purpose. Plus if there are any problems with rain ingress or build integrity then surely they are going to claim its your sealing, or the fact that you have altered or modded it in anyway voids the warranty !

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very different tents tge keb and the vern. I used to be upset about having to seam seal but now I like having the option to do it for longevity. Your statement about the warranty is just wild guessing. Have a look at the book of tents from Nortent.
