Brilliant and very honest review fellas. I've had two scarp 1s and a scarp 2 because I was determined to make them work. I genuinely believe they tick more boxes for being a year round tent for all occasions than any other that I've had BUT I just couldn't get along with them and eventually moved them on. I think if tarptent listened to the feedback (which is always the same around niggles, quality, setting up and taking down etc) and re jigged a little they could make an already brilliant tent even better 🙂 Stay safe and well, Adge.

Great review. I got mine feb ‘22 and my pole sleeve punctured near end where it comes out. I was probably at fault with how I was feeding it in. I’ve never had the bib at the end detach. Tarptent we’re cool about it and sent me a repair patch but I’ve gotta say, just like when they sent me the crossing brace remedial kit - the bloody silicone sachets were solidified. Bad-show tarptent. You need to make the yellow sleeves from a higher denier in the first place ffs. I still have the scarp as my go-to this time of year as Soulo has less floor space, height and weighs too much, albeit the quality on a Soulo, as you rightly say is far better and walls are flush with ground unlike scarp 1. Great informative and honest review that guy’s. It’s nice to hear the little niggles as well as the good points. I do like the concept of the tent, and the inside looks spacious. It’s just a shame you’ve had to make some tweaks to a new tent, but it should be a good one now you have. Nice one guy’s 👍

Love my Scarp 1 - not perfect as you've said, but it does so much so well at its weight and price point. It's as though Tarptent designed for UK hill use. Agreed the side guylines should be provided, but that's an easy fix. I also lengthened the provided guylines (all 6 of them) by 50% each, which improves pitching options. I have the crossing poles, but have yet to deploy them - Henry Shires is insistent that they do not improve stability in wind, and are only for dealing with snow loading. I'm not sure I agree, but he did build the tent after all! Tip: if not using the crosspoles, prevent the attachments from flapping by removing them altogether! They're easy to unthread and can be reattached when needed again. Another tip: I incorporate a small loop of bungee at the attachment of the hiking pole roof pullout guyline - this lessens trauma on the pullout and seems to give a 'calmer' performance.

Greta video buddy, you’ve really helped me choose between the soulo and the scarp 1. I don’t think the build quality is worth the money on the scarp. Iknow the soulo is slightly more expensive and around 600 grams heavier at top weight but I feel it’s worth the compromise. In this instance it looks like you get what you pay for in regards to the hilleberg
Thanks for watching, honesty is the best policy in gear reviews and showing the negatives and positives is the best way of doing it , we love the Scarp 1 but have sold it now and have bought a couple of MSR Access 1 tents as we feel that MSR had better quality materials especially the fabric, we will be reviewing both these tents in due course as one is the older version and the is the newest version and we are gonna compare the both of them . Great review lads, I totally agree with the pros and cons. I’ve made a load of other mods now that has helped with pitching and general use. I’ve made the ‘Pitch Lock guy out lines longer on both ends this really does help getting a better pitch also lengthened the middle guy out line on each end. I’ve also shortened the main loop pole by 25mm on each side, this now allows the outer fly to completely reach the floor on both sides. The silly inner tent door tie backs are a pain so I made a loop on one side and added a a press clip so it works like the outer one. I too added the side guy out lines. Cut back the excess material on the crossover pole clips. Last but by no means the least, from the day I got the tent I knew the cross over poles were way to tight in that little loop so I added bungie cord! Fortunately I have never had the pole sleeve wearing issue. Great vid boys 👍

good review of the scarp 1, i think i told you on facebook, my sleeve tore on my scarp where the crossing poles, all repaired now, considering selling mine, only used it twice, ive since bought my terra nova pioneer 2, i think i prefer it, are the zips on your scarp quite stiff? especially when the crossing polies are on, mine are, especfially when its guided out properly
Cheers guys for watching, yeah I’ve noticed that about the zips as well when it’s guyed out on the sides it does become tight and you need two hands to open the doors and you have to pull the arch pole towards the zip to make it looser , bit of a pain tbh 👌👍

Very informative review, thanks. I am considering to buy this one (without extra poles), or an X-Mid 2p (with two carbon poles, that they will make and sell). Regarding the X-Mid, I am a little worried that it will be too big, which will make it difficult to find camp spots in the mountains, where I hike. But I do like the space in it, and the no-sagging poly. Regarding the Scarp, the materials and the tent seem more solid than the X-Mid. My question though is this: I want a tent where I can fit two people. With the lack of vestibules, if used as 2p, would we fit two 70-80 litre backpacks in the tent? Is 28 cm all there is as extra space inside, which means the backpacks must be stored outside the tent? Or would it be possible to make the vestibules big enough, and still fit two persons inside? If not, I will probably prefer the X-Mid and more room. EDIT: Just found your video about two people in the tent. It does look a bit small for two people with big backpacks, unfortunately. Btw, you didn't seem too happy with the top half of the inner being mesh. Did you feel some cold/draught from it? I have only had full solid inners. It seems that many solid inners are sold like this (top third with mesh), also the future X-Mid I am looking at.
It will be a bit cozy using this as a 2 person tent as the sleeping pads will be right next to each other, you can stack 2 rucksacks inside the bottom of the tent and it has worked for us but it all depends how tall you are, we are both 5 foot 10 and it worked for us 👍
Great review. I bought one and love the tent but a little heavy at 1.9 kg with poles. I'm looking for a tent for long distance hiking and 4 season mountain camping. My dream tent would: - be self standing - be outer pitch first - have doors and a bit of a vestibule on both sides (ideal for ventilation) - be 4 season - be as close to 1 kg as possible Does such a tent exist? If not, could it be designed? :)
Hi Imran thanks for watching and commenting on the video, I think you will be hard pushed to find a 4 season tent at that weight and I don’t think I’ve ever heard of one. Without all the extra poles and bits added to this tent it still adds up to about 1.5 kilo which is a pretty decent weight TBH, compare this to say a Hilleberg soulo and it’s quite a lot lighter. I think you're right. A 1 kg for a 4 season might not be possible. And the scarp is still a great tent at 1.4 kg without the poles. But is there a robust , self standing , outer pitch, dual vestibule tent for 1 kg? I prefer self standing in case the ground has thin soil...and the scarp 1 is only self standing with the extra poles.
Do all those guylines come with the lineloc tighteners? Edit: Actually, you answered my question in literally the next sentence you spoke. All of the tighteners come with the tent
Good stuff. I can live with most of those niggles but the thing that annoys me most is how tricky it is to get the main pole in and out of the sleeve. Not too difficult in good weather but a real pain when it's wet and windy! I'm always worried about the pole puncturing the sleeve. I've got other tents where it is much easier to thread the pole. A shame because otherwise I really like the Scarp 1.
Hi mate, I totally agree with what you are saying there are niggles with it so I made the decision to sell the tent for an MSR Access 1 as I felt that the quality is better from MSR, I don’t regret selling it and am happy with my latest tent 👌👍
@@Twin_Peaks_Outdoors The Access looks like a good tent. What I do like about the Scarp are the 2 doors so you can watch sunset and sunrise from the comfort of your sleeping bag! Hard to find a 1 person 2 door tent.
Not sure I agree with the complaint on the inner door ties (you don't need to tie them in a bow... just pass them around once and synch tight, it grips fine and is much less fiddly that a toggle etc). Also, for rolling up the inner door if you pull the fabric down towards the bottom corner of the door and then roll it up you don't have any loose fabric (this is needed on most tents I have used). I agree about the guy lines and the seam sealing though, I've always thought that was a bit cheeky - the seam sealing was fair enough when they were genuinely a cottage brand but they are now a much larger brand and the tents are manufactured abroad so suggesting that it is a capacity issue is nonsense. I also think that the new top vents aren't necessarily an improvement - in the older configuration you had one vent pointing in each direction (i.e., one vent always pointing into the wind which is great for ventilation - the new vents on the doors will never face the wind because you pitch the Scarp end on to the wind with the doors facing away for shelter...)
Fair points although we don’t own a Scarp 1 anymore, just our thoughts on the tent plus we all got different opinions life would be pretty boring if we all had the same views, thanks for watching 👍👌

Honest review lads. Don't know why everybody is punting for this one. Seems to be this year's Lanshan. Not seen anyone test it in serious wind yet either. That fabric wearing crossover should have been play tested by the manufacturer too. Inisghtful review lads but, I'm out😜

I have one and it’s a fabulous tent. I would be careful of your side guy out points - I had the centre pole break on me in high winds - and it broke at the tension point of the side guy 😬. Not impressed and entertaining to pack up
Hi I’m not sure on the VAT but the import duty was £118 😳 which isn’t cheap but if you purchase gear from the US to the Uk you will have to pay it, stay tuned I may be selling mine in the near future ATB Mark 👌👍
I was debating getting this tent, but after watching it I’m not going to bother. Seems too many niggles for the money, poles rubbing, the fact they charge for guy lines doesn’t seem right to me, I agree with you. . Thanks for uploading.

How much did VAT and customs add to the price you paid?
Hi I’m not sure on the VAT but the import duty was £118 😳 which isn’t cheap but if you purchase gear from the US to the Uk you will have to pay it, stay tuned I may be selling mine in the near future ATB Mark 👌👍

I was debating getting this tent, but after watching it I’m not going to bother. Seems too many niggles for the money, poles rubbing, the fact they charge for guy lines doesn’t seem right to me, I agree with you. . Thanks for uploading.
