    Oh Gosh the moment you feel that something is coming up. I usually can prevent the pain from getting worse by breathing and relaxing like you suggested. It also helps me to lay down on my back while doing that. There were times at work when I got down on the floor in the changing room and just stayed like that for a while 🤣🙄

      Thank you so much for sharing Maryam. It's not always easy to take the time to breathe and relax in this situation, so well done to you! And sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do! :)

      Hi Lillian, thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear you are really struggling at the moment. Is this the first time you have suffered from IBS? What are your current symptoms? It's very important to rule out any red flags such as blood in your stool as this would need to be checked out by your doctor. When it comes to acute flare ups, one of the key things is to help the body/nervous system to relax, and to start to release the tension which you are no doubt experiencing. When your body is in what we call a 'stress response'', your digestive system is going to be affected. You can help your body with breathing exercises such as diaphragmatic breathing or box breathing, and also listening to hypnosis audios designed for IBS. These will all help to calm your nervous system. I have a IBS hypnosis audio linked in the description above which you can download and listen to. Let me know if you have any questions on this - I hope this helps?

    I am having IBS-D since January 2022. After suffering for 11 months and visiting 2 Gastroenterologists and also one Hematologist, I finally was getting relief in the month of December 2022. But very sad that I was diagnosed with kidney stones due to the dehydration I had for the last 11 months due to IBS-D. Now when I took medicines to dissolve the kidney stones my IBS-D triggered again. It's been 2 days since I am having a flare up. Please help me as how to calm down my IBS flare up

    I just discovered today that I have IBS from a doctor..... I’ve been freaking out and crying. I went to him thinking it was a simple virus that caused me painful sharp pains in the lower left abdominal and right. But he said I have IBS. I haven’t been eating properly for a week because of the pain. Please help.

      Hi Sarah, thank you for commenting. I’m so sorry to hear you are struggling at the moment. It can definitely feel overwhelming to hear IBS for the first time. It comes with a lot of confusion too. It sounds like pain is your main issue at the moment - what have you tried already to help with the pain?

    • @Sarah-ju4wk
      @Sarah-ju4wk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheCalmHappyGut I’ve tried watching what I eat and drinking more water. The first couple of days I was on pain killers, but I stopped taking them because I’ve always been someone that has been against taking pills or any form of medication for too long. I do take supplements like multivitamins, iron pills etc. But pills prescribed by doctors for illnesses or sickness, I try to limit because the side effects are worse than anything else. I should add that ever since the pain that started last week I stopped all supplements, until I start feeling better. It just feels like my gut has been on overdrive and it needs a break. The question is how do I heal it, or better yet cure it.

    • @TheCalmHappyGut
      @TheCalmHappyGut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sarah-ju4wk In addition to the pain you are feeling, what are your bowel movements like? Have you experienced any constipation or diarrhea alongside it? I’m also curious how many weeks you had been experiencing this pain? I completely understand in terms of medication. They can be helpful in the short term, but can create various problematic side effects. Whilst there is no ‘’cure’’ for IBS, it is definitely possible to have your IBS symptoms go into remission. Have you watched any of my videos on gut directed hypnotherapy? This is one of the most effective ways to reduce IBS symptoms long-term (research shows an 80% success rate with this management approach), and it will also massively help you with any anxiety you may be feeling. I'll link to one of these videos below for you to learn more.

      Hi Betty, Antibiotics can most definitely trigger the onset of IBS. I just posted a new video on my channel this week talking all about this. When it comes to feeling afraid of eating, this is unfortunately very common and it's understandable - because you are wanting to stop your worst fears from coming true (having a flare up). It sounds like you are in what I call the IBS stress symptom cycle.. where IBS symptoms trigger anxiety and stress... which triggers further gut symptoms. I've just recorded a new video explaining all about this which will be out next week. It'll help explain the way you are feeling and most importantly how to start to break this cycle x

      Thank you for sharing how you feel about your pain. IBS gut pain can be debilitating when you're experiencing it. In addition to the steps I cover in this video, I would also suggest thinking of the opposite of the pain you experience. For example, if you feel sharp pain, what is the opposite of sharp? Eg. soft, calm, smooth, etc. What word/feeling/sensation resonates with you? Closing your eyes what does soft/calm/smooth feel like? Notice how your body feels? I'd recommend experimenting with this when you are not in pain, and see what comes up for you. Let me know!

      @@noimehendley2765 How often are you experiencing these flare ups? Anxiety and being afraid to eat is something I experienced myself when I suffered with IBS flareups, so I understand. It can be very challenging. There are a few different breathing and relaxation exercises which can help with pain, and which also help you to detach from the anxious thoughts - which themselves can trigger flare ups. Have you heard of diaphragmatic breathing? I will be creating some new video’s on some of these techniques which I believe will help you and other subscribers.
