  • IBS affects between 10 and 15 percent of people in the developed world, about one-third of whom have IBS with diarrhea as the primary symptom, commonly referred to IBS-D. In this empowering session, Dr. Steve Vanner reviewed the basics of IBS-D and answered the many questions of attendees.

My IBS-D is accompanied by upper gut symptoms but also really induces my underlying mental health issues, making them sevear. Confusion, balance issues, anxity and stress. The worst is the headaches.
For me fat is the number one culprit, but by no means the only one. Spices, insoluble fibre like wheat or fibrous vegetables. Alcohols and high sugar foods. Milk but interestingly not certain yougurts. - after years I have found the following foods my safe foods; pealed potatoes, pealed courgettes, rice, pineapple, strawberys , oats and low fat stocks. Known natural set yogurt in moderation. White meat or the occasional lean portion of lean lamb.

I was prescribed Pamelor and it really helped, I was suffering with diarrhea almost right after eating. With Pamelor I have a normal life now. Also I worked with a nutritionist and I watch what I eat, the low fodmap diet. I guess with me it really was brain gut dysfunction.

I suggest we use the term Chronic Digestive Disease (CDD) instead of IBS. Then create numbers for the different types depending on what parts of the system are effected. Then diagnose the patient with the number that matches. So, CDD-1 could be smooth muscle dysfunction effecting paristalsis with diarrhea in response to fat consumption, and the internal anal sphincter not opening enough for foods containing fiber with anal fissure, along with dry eyes which are controlled by the same autonomic function, along with a dry or silent reflux. That is very specific disease with a mechanism of pathology, though no root cause or cure specified, but that is not necessary to define a disease.

I have IBS-D and Functional Diarrhoea. This MIGHT have been developed through extreme stress as I had fled eastern Afghanistan (Feyzabad) with my family, now that the Taliban has taken over my country. This is as I believe been the stress factor, fleeing from the Taliban and abject poverty they are causing. Thus I have acquired at an early age IBS-D. I was born in Feyzabad and lived in Hemat for a while.

    • @albussnape2
      @albussnape2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

How very lucky you are that you and your family escaped. I feel grateful for every person who escaped, and awfully sad and afraid for all who could not escape when Taliban took control of Afghanistan. Definitely you were all under extreme stress! I know what it’s like to have it affect your life. Find a good gastroenterologist, if possible. Maybe ask to try amitriptyline for gut pain control and hyoscyamine if you get terrible cramps. Immodium to control the diarrhea. Some think FODMAP diet is very helpful. But it is hard to follow very restrictive diet. May you find medical help and stay safe.

Very informative, thank you. I am 74 years old, I have a colonoscopy every five years as my mother dies from colon cancer. For the past couple of years I have been suffering from diarrhea, not all the time. I spoke to my gastroenterologist, he is the one that mention the possibility of IBS. My last colonoscopy was in 2019 so he did not see the need for another one this soon. The diarrhea happens sporadically, I noticed that it is triggered whenever I eat any leafy greens, such as lettuce. I get terrible cramps accompanied by violent diarrhea that has created embarrassing situations. I am wondering if this is IBS or something else. By the way, I have stress in my life as I have a mentally I’ll son.

I had my gallbladder removed and have had this instant emptying feeling. Slight twinge of pain, gasy farts, then two mins later a constipated poo, ten minutes later a more firm diarrhea, followed by another watery diarrhea ten minutes later followed by another soil like stool looks like pure potting soil in the bottom of the toilet.

nice video full of information, last year one of my relative got affected with
the same disorder and he was tired of trying everything but he didn’t see any
result. He started getting patches on skin. Home remedies are the best to treat
any disease and along with it you need to change your lifestyle and mode of

After listening to this presentation for over 50 minutes, this person has no clue what they're talking about in regards to IBS-D.
To poorly paraphrase this person (not quote, but a near approximation or paraphrase):
"In the classical sense, this is not IBS. IBS is not IBS, all the symtoms of IBS have no bearing on IBS. All the interconnected stuff with IBS is not caused by IBS. If you're losing weight and lack nutrition and go to the toilet alot it's not IBS. We have known about IBS for 150 years. SIBO doesn't exist with IBS. SIBO might not exist. "
What nonsense. Does this Dr. Steve Vanner person even hear the words coming out of his own mouth?
Does he not think, or is he only able to recite a bad edit of a wikipedia article on IBS which was summerized in his medical school book?
About the only thing he said that has value for IBS is that it may be linked to histamine.
I know this video info is outdated by 5 years, but I have been going through IBS-D and C recently (worse since may 2023), and this video irritates me, it feels like its information was pulled from that "150 years" long ago.
    Anyways.

ibs isnt a real diagnosis...something is irritating the gut, its most likely 2 things...stress or gallbladder/bile duct issues...they overlook the gallbladder and ducts these days..for me its both, stressed caused what they call ibs but also i have a gallbladder issue along with bile duct issue but still not diagnosed after 2 years,,,the healthcare system is trash/....what causes this disease is deep fried foods and trans fats! They block the bile duct from secreting its juices and they cant see it with a ultrasound, you need a hida test and a test to see the gullbladder performance, most GI docs are not educated with this so you need to see one that is...also when stressed it causes ibs but also the nerves that shoot down to the colon pass by thje liver and gallbladder causes the gallbladder issues, this is %100 confirmed from the research I did. We need meditation, lifestyle changes, love and purpose...I dont have that yet so Im obv still suffering daily almost.
