You think this talk was good... Check out her book! I bought it STRAIGHT AFTER I watched the talk and it doesn't disappoint. Also, I enjoyed the fact she was humble enough that she didn't feel the need to promote it.
Yes, we all need to eat freshly washed fruits and veggies as our main dish with a fist size portion of fish or chicken as a side dish. But mostly focus on beans like lentils instead of meat for protein. Saurcrout and plain greek yogurt are excellent for your gut. Nuts and seeds too.
This 14 minute video taught me more about my condition than any GP or doctor could in the last 13 years. Although I wouldn’t change a thing because of the understanding and strength I have taught myself in order to cope, I wish this awareness of gut health and mental health was more known back then. Awesome work. I look forward to reading more of Giulia’s work.
Read her book last year. Definitely recommended. Started me on my own personal journey of finding out foods and things I could do to help culture beneficial flora in my gut. My mood has become more consistent, my immunity to any bacterial infections had improved and ultimately my life had improved because of it. I also ate a highly processed diet until at least the age of 18 where I was hospitalized at least once a year with an infrequent illness/infection. So I have to thank Giulia for that and wish her all the best in her research going forward.

What this woman did took guts. Her book hit #1 but settled down at #2. Her competition tried to silence her but she wrecked ‘em. The info on the gut-brain connection is food for thought. Some may find it hard to swallow. But she made it very digestible.
Great talk, very accurate. 90% of serotonin production is in the digestive tract so if the environment in the gut is disrupted or damaged then it's very possible that serotonin production can be hindered, resulting in symptoms of depression/anxiety.
Very interesting talk. I had a stomach infection in my teens and my gut changed a lot after that. Different smells, no longer can have dairy, etc. I really don't know how healthy that is. The bacteria culture inside of you are really a big part people never think of.
I would be willing to be studied for a break through on the relationship between gut health and depression. I have had clinical depression and anxiety my whole life. I have also been obese and had digestion issues my whole life. This is very interesting to me. I have so much mental illness in my family and life and society just wants to throw a pill at the problem. It's refreshing to think that I might be able to medicate this with proper diet.

I was damged by too many constant antibiotics as a child. My gut microbiome was destroyed. Interestingly I was suicidal at the age of eight years old until a few years ago when I changed my diet. I am also spiritual and feel God dircted me to change. Now I only eat organic, lots of raw fruits and veggies and try to stay away from too many refined oils and refined carbs, sugar and avoid alchohol as much as possible. I also don’t eat meat or gluten. My life has literally changed 180. I am no longer suicidal and am grateful for life. This doctor is the future. She is totally correct. Science one day will prove it. Wonderful talk which also has a philosophical takeaway: cleanliness is not about eliminating the “bad” as that is impossible to do, but cleanliness is balancing between bad and good. Also, the mind and the body might not be as distinct from each other as some people think, but a whole, unified organism working back and forth.

I can track any nervousness or anxiety feelings directly to a session of diarrhea shortly thereafter, and no warning that it will be diarrhea, no cramping or bloating, etc. Just a straight run through of stuff in my gut.

This has been very helpful. I look forward to further research on the Gut and the bacteria which plays in its function. I know when I get constipated due to dehydration I get head aches, the connection is undeniable, so is the feeling of energy and vitality when I eat good wholesome foods against when I eat rubbish. Nutrition has been a voyage of discovery this year and I have learned a lot, but I would like to learn much more about the bacteria types and what they do. I've recently learned about soluble fibre called Inulin found in Bananas and Sweet potato do not affect my Ketosis as bacteria digest the simple sugars in this fibre and turn them into monounsaturated fats. Also, up until I started my diet I really did feel depressed, not suicidal but like the whole world was a weight around my neck, but now I feel so overwhelmingly optimistic and confident now I've cut out sugar, carbohydrates and lectin rich foods.Delightful presentation and look forward to any others Giulia will present in the future.

The gut-brain axis is fascinating! Throwing this out: Could this axis have to do with the amount of violence (i.e. mass shootings) in the U.S. and the corresponding irresponsibility of American politicians? This is an honest question. The American diet in its most basic form is quite bad and unhealthy, and it is a society in which stress and pressure is constant. This leads me to ask if the gut is emotionally taking over, quite like the example Giulia gave of her colleague who committed suicide. She seems to imply that rash problems in the gut lead to rash responses.
Loved it!!! And when i started my intermittent fasting with 18/6 pattern or 20/4 pattern , i started again hearing my rumblings in the gut!! I guess bacterias were pile-uped before, and at the same time i know it, indeed, has nothing to do with feeling hunger and i love it :D

The body is an amazingly incredible machine who's only job is to recreate itself over and over and over, cell by cell, human by human, preserving and protecting each and every cell.
I really recommend her book, it's a fascinating description of how the gut works. I found it by chance on a bookstore a couple of years ago and loved it, very educational.

It was actually helpful! Especially the fact about having mood swinga in mornings is so relatable. Now i know why i feel bad after a long day and skipped meals. It's not just about hungry stomach; rather an angry stomach

This has been very helpful. I look forward to further research on the Gut and the bacteria which plays in its function. I know when I get constipated due to dehydration I get head aches, the connection is undeniable, so is the feeling of energy and vitality when I eat good wholesome foods against when I eat rubbish. Nutrition has been a voyage of discovery this year and I have learned a lot, but I would like to learn much more about the bacteria types and what they do. I've recently learned about soluble fibre called Inulin found in Bananas and Sweet potato do not affect my Ketosis as bacteria digest the simple sugars in this fibre and turn them into monounsaturated fats. Also, up until I started my diet I really did feel depressed, not suicidal but like the whole world was a weight around my neck, but now I feel so overwhelmingly optimistic and confident now I've cut out sugar, carbohydrates and lectin rich foods.Delightful presentation and look forward to any others Giulia will present in the future.

Wow what a great talk! I loved her applying the philosophy of the gut, good and bad bacteria, to life in general (good and bad) Couldn't have asked for a better way to end a talk. L
The gut-brain axis is fascinating! Throwing this out: Could this axis have to do with the amount of violence (i.e. mass shootings) in the U.S. and the corresponding irresponsibility of American politicians? This is an honest question. The American diet in its most basic form is quite bad and unhealthy, and it is a society in which stress and pressure is constant. This leads me to ask if the gut is emotionally taking over, quite like the example Giulia gave of her colleague who committed suicide. She seems to imply that rash problems in the gut lead to rash responses.

Loved it!!! And when i started my intermittent fasting with 18/6 pattern or 20/4 pattern , i started again hearing my rumblings in the gut!! I guess bacterias were pile-uped before, and at the same time i know it, indeed, has nothing to do with feeling hunger and i love it :D
Yes, intermittent fasting is an excellent choice to make you feel better physically and mentally
