I miss short story anthology shows. There's just something about them. The Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, Hammer House of Horror, The Outer Limits, Tales From the Crypt, Tales From the Darkside, Alfred Hitchcock, all the best shows came on when you knew you were supposed to be in bed. Even the more PG versions of Are You Afraid of the Dark, Amazing Stories, and The Ray Bradbury Theater. Good times.

That intro was right up there with Unsolved Mysteries back in the day. The episode I remember is a girl getting hired in Salem for a historical park and she was told to stay in character as a puritan. She broke too many rules like lighting a cigarette with a lighter, her digitial watch went off, etc. . It turned out she had traveled back in time and was burned for witchcraft.

The Tales From the Darkside intro is great. Favorites are Inside the Closet, Case of the Stubborns, Lifebomb, Halloween Candy, Devil's Advocate, Monsters in my Room, Last Car, Circus, Sorry Right Number, Love Hungry, Cutty Black Sow, Hush, mostly the horror themed ones were the best IMO to match the creepy intro/exit theme. "Man lives, in the sunlit world, of what he believes to be reality. But, there is, unseen by most, an underworld, a place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit. A Darkside..." "Until next time, try to enjoy the daylight."

Two episodes always stood out to me. One is the second doll house episode mentioned towards the end of the video. The other was one where a woman tries to lose weight by buying some glasses advertised on TV. The glasses make all her see all her food taking to her, so she refuses to eat. It ends with her sewing her mouth shut as we see in reality all her food has started to rot around her. Don't remember the name. Loved this show as a kid- great video.

Thank you for this!! I grew up with this show & now own the entire series on DVD. For me, one of the scariest episodes was the one where the lady is tormented by a phone ringing in an empty room, next to hers. The phone also occasionally bangs against the wall, which she thinks somebody hiding in the room is doing. At the end, she ends up being strangled by the phone. I watched that one again recently, & it was still pretty freaky for me, now at age 38. Ursa Minor is a pretty freaky episode, as well.

"Tales from the darkside" is one of the best TV horror series, with great stories, improvisations, great camera work, with right point of views and so on, that come from real life, from real issues, dark, unfair things and so on., sometimes a fair verdict at the end, sometimes a double meaning of ending, or twisted ending and so on.
    Sincerely, Alex

A very underrated jumpscare occurs in the middle of this episode as the end to a nightmare. Given Mr. Savini's knack for special makeup effects, and a pretty decent storyline, you'll find this an entertaining episode! It's actually my favorite episode of the whole series. Give it a look...

One of My favorite episodes was the one that took place on a winter night and these kids were told a story by their father of a Christmas monster that if you call it’s name in vain it’ll come and kill you. The kids kept on asking their father to finish the story, which he did. The problem with doing so was that it summoned that monster and the monster punched through the wall of their house to only pick up the father and mother by their heads with its massive hands, and snapped both of their necks and dropped them onto the floor. That story is one of the best Christmas Horror Stories that came out(until the first season of TFTC’s episode And All Through The House). If you can find that episode, watch it. It’s s slow burn but man that payoff ending was worth it. Honorable mentioned to the episode with Divine where he was looking for a reincarnation of a prophet and it was spoiled brat, The episode with Jerry Stiller( my top five favorite episode btw) "The Devil’s Advocate", and another favorite of mine (and this one was darkly comic) "Fear Of Floating”. I would go into detail about the story but you have to see it cause to speak on any of it would give it away. Let’s just say telling the truth and being a decent person will keep a person grounded😂🤦🏿‍♂️(I’ll see my way out).

While I did enjoy this series, I always felt that Monsters was a much better program. Why? I honestly can't even tell you now, let alone when I was eight. I think it was the time of night. I'd have to wait till 11-11:30 Sunday nights to watch TFTDS....and as an eight year old going to Catholic school first thing in the morning....well....it was asking a little too much. However..I'd read the synopsis of the episode, and if it sounded good I would slip in a VHS tape at 10pm to catch Monsters. I would then go to bed, and get up early to rewind the tape and watch the next episodes. Those were fun times, hahahaha.
Glad you enjoyed this show, too. Much love, and I hope all is well!
Post Scriptum....cannot recall a favorite TFTDS, but I did have quite a few favorites from the Monsters show.....
One being the episode which a man is trapped in a barber shop as they begin to explain to the fellow just exactly what barbers were and how they started. I thought it a great new take on the ....uhm, spoiler alert.......vampire mythose.
    Keep up the awesome work.

TFTDS had some truly cool episodes. The Geezenstacks, The Last Car, Halloween Candy, there's just so many to choose from.
It just has a different feel than other anthology series, including the episode endings.
I'm glad I could find the series on DVD, now I don't need to go through streaming services to watch.

Really a outstanding syndicated tv series (It aired really late growing up 12am on Sunday morning great series that doesn’t get nearly enough attention! Hopefully sooner rather then later it’s given a proper HD clean up and released on blu-ray the dvd’s look rough imo. all the cool paramount back catalog series were given horrible home video releases during the early days of dvd

The cat actually goes into David Johansen's mouth. The William Hickey character succumbed to a heart attack.

I only used to be able to watch this at my aunt and uncle's when we would visit, and it was on at 1230am, so I would often have to sneak downstairs to the basement (or ask to stay in the basement) to watch it. Fond memories of this creeping me out as a kid.

Girl yes that intro and one of the commercials for it was chilling to me as a toddler. Still it is creepy. I would hear it as I was sleeping in my crib at night.

The collaboration with ROMERO and ARGENTO - TWO EVIL EYES was a really good movie, but yeah Rae Dawn Chong as the Gargoyle was a Intensely Memorable episode 😍

I really wish Tom Savini directed more, his "Inside the Closet" episode is my favorite. I also loved his "Night of the Living Dead" remake.
