I noticed they changed bits of Curse of Iron Pipe so they didn't have the stuff from Ashguine in it. Either way, I'm really glad they're keeping Curse of Iron Pipe.
@Barrylocke I know it's from a long time ago, but if you really want to know, it's an iron pipe. A certain monster in an area of the original La-Mulana has the same one so it can survive on land, hence why the original version of Curse of Ocean is called "Curse of IRON PIPE". ...I only just realized this recently as well, from reading the game's instruction manual...
That doesn't stop people from ignoring them all. People actually steer others away from the older titles because they "haven't aged well". I honestly see it as another curse of modern consumerism. People only look to the new, shiny, sleek, whatever it is. If it's new, that makes it better than everything that came before it. It's unreasonable, but it's true. People are programmed to buy whatever is placed in front of them, and that makes it harder for guys like Nigoro to get any publicity.
EPIC. (Also I liked how King Konda's artwork reminded me of the boxart for Konamis' Salamander (aka LIfeForce) And the one shot where they look just like Sean Connery & Harrison Ford, LOL :P
-Mr. Explorer: Eh, it could be better. For some reason, it sounds too high-noted compared to the original. Other than that its good -Fearless Challenger: Now THIS is a remix! It sounds like the original, but much much better!!! I love it! -King Konda: Awesome! It really captures the ferocity of the boss fight well! -Grand History: Pretty darn good! -Curse of Ocean (IRON PIPE)- Perfect remix, but I'm sad that some parts were changed :(. Still an awesome remix though :D
I think I'm OK with the changes to Curse of IRON Pipe/Curse of Ocean. Curse of IRON Pipe was my favorite song from the original version, and the changes are more of a de-emphasis on certain parts than a wholesale replacing, and I think the bassline and percussion have definitely been upgraded.
@ZarroTsu You do realize that Nicalis is a publishing company, right? Different developers worked on both games. The developers of Cave Story took the cheap way out and simply rehashed everything. The developers of La-Mulana chose to put actual work into their effort.
@GlennMagusHarvey If you search for 'curse of iron pipe' on youtube, one of the videos has a reply to it, with the copyrighted sample in question... even though it's only like a five second long clip from a 20 year old game by a company that probably doesn't even exist anymore anyway, they'd rather not take that chance.
I see, they changed the two bits of Curse of Iron Pipe that sounded like that other tune. Unfortunately, the first bit they changed is one of my favorite segments, but oh well.
@tankknightv5 The original is not well known anyway... so I guess this remake will give the game another life span for new peoples and fans as well. I understand your feeling about oldies which people forget about but the best thing to happen is this kind of good remake. Maybe it will help the original game to be more known too.
@Danowner Unlikely: they'd have to port their sound synthesizer to Wii, because converting all the music to some format like MP3 would take up too much space
@GenoCheese she's new apparently, exclusive to the wii version... not exactly sure what kind of role she plays in the game, I think she's like a priestess or something...
I have only two problems with the Wii La-Mulana. 1:Remakes are great, but sometimes, they don't capture the same feeling as the originals. As a game, it will be great! But will it have the same feel as the original La-mulana? My second beef is that: I'm kind of worried about the fate of the original one after the wii version is released. Will it fade away, or be noticed and gain more reputaion? Just as a fan, I worry about these things.
I was a little apprehensive at first, but after listening to it for a while, I'm starting to warm up to it. Grand History still sounds too upbeat, though.
The reverb at 3:00 is in the wrong key, and makes that whole section sound dissonant. Hopefully they'll fix that by the final release, especially after the colossal screwup with Cave Story.
Here's my opinion on these songs, when compared with the original chiptune versions (not considering the midi ones, those suck): Mr. Explorer - On par or better than the original. - I love the instrument choice Fearless Challenger - On par or better than the original. - very epic! King Konda - On par with the original. - nothing special. Grand History - Inferior to the original. - Doesn't invoke such a sense of awe. Curse of Ocean - Inferior to the original. - They messed up the "chorus" :(

The sketch of the snake during King Konda looks quite a lot like the giant snake from Salamander.
Love the MSX references.

Only game on my must buy list of WiiWare.

Mr. Explorer is full of win still. DEFINITELY staying on the surface more than I have to now.
I dig how the pictures to the music look a lot like the movie posters to the Indiana Jones movies.
God.... I could rock out to Fearless Challenger all day
EPIC. (Also I liked how King Konda's artwork reminded me of the boxart for Konamis' Salamander (aka LIfeForce)

The picture of Lameza in the Fearless Challenger part really looks like Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones XD
The new Curse of Iron Pipe is god-tier.
I´m really excited to her Interstice of the Dimention when its out...
so what'd you think?

@Barrylocke That to me looks like a water canteen like most explorers would be ready with.
@GenoCheese Huh, nice theory! Never really thought of that.

the old one was god tier. nothing beats that one :)

The first thing I do when I get this game (comes out this June in Japan :D!!!!!!!!!:D) is headbang to Fearless Challenger for about 5 minutes.
@KintarosTiger interesting. So I assume thats those fish monsters that run around.
@darktetsuya I know; I've seen the video and identified the two segments in question.
The pic at Fearless Challenger looks like Indiana Jones. Fitting considering the circumstances I know but still. Quite Harrison Ford-ish.
@3:39
AAAHHHHHH IT'S SALAMANDER
@GenoCheese she's new apparently, exclusive to the wii version... not exactly sure what kind of role she plays in the game, I think she's like a priestess or something...

FEARLESS CHALLENGER
Well, he wasn't kidding about busting out the SC-55. It's a shame these sound so MIDI.
I was a little apprehensive at first, but after listening to it for a while, I'm starting to warm up to it.
Grand History still sounds too upbeat, though.
@tankknightv5 I guess all we can do now is just hope for the best.

@ZarroTsu
Cave story on wii was too fucking quiet. XD
"here. you found an item. now fall asleep"
Is the Music made by Nigoro?
@tankknightv5 And then they removed all the roms.
also, wtf is Muburk?
@ZarroTsu
