interesting that they are Land Rover people and are getting a Rivian. I have a LR and just overall couldn't get psyched about the R1S after demoing it. Seems more like a sideways EV move from a premium 4Runner (don't hate me. :)). Glad they like it though, and the R1S will have more room than the Defender 110.
@@AaronStarkLinux JLR has several in the pipeline. the big Range Rover will be the first out the door, likely we will see it by the end of the year. I'm happy that they are going with 800v architecture from the get go.
I just leased an IONIQ 5, but I do plan on pre-ordering an R2. I figure that will come out about the time my lease runs out. I'm a big Rivian fan, but the R1S was beyond my budget, plus it's quite large.
If the standard battery is a software locked standard plus, and I can upgrade later, then I am ordering a standard range R1S this year. It would be a great deal
Smart mom! I had my 240v outlet installed outside and I use a level 2 portable charging cable to charge it, probably similar to what rivian included. When I am done, I just unplug and bring the charging cable inside. That way I don't have to deal with any potential garage door issues. But I see she's getting the Rivian wall charger so that's obviously going to be used. Great video!
Good luck to your mom! I hope she loves it. I love my R1T. I think her choice of Limestone with the Ocean Coast she will really love. The Charging cable is 25 feet long so should easily be able to reach the 240 even if she drives face first into the garage on the left.
Your mom is so nice and so smart! Has she considered backing into the garage so that she would be closer to the NEMA 14-50 or would that not work because she wouldn’t be able to get to the outlet or she’d have to drive over the cord? It’s hard for me to see cars left out in the weather when there are nice two car garages, but it’s not my cars or my business either.
Max, It's great that your mom is moving to an EV. From watching the video, it appears as if the current 14-50 outlet has been there for quite a while, it may even be original from the house. THIS IS NOT SAFE. Residential "dryer" outlets are not appropriate for charging EV's. Please watch Tom's (Moloughney) new video on electrical issues. She will want to have a certified (and of course licensed electrician) EV-experenced installer change out that box for a commercial one before charging the Rivian, epecially given how slow it is and how long it potentially will charge (10hrs.+). Better safe than sorry. If it's a new outlet, ignore everything I just said. :) I hope she enjoys the new vehicle!
This video is exactly why I pulled my R1S reservation!! I live in a metro area of 1 million plus people but Rivian still doesn’t have a service center or dealer closer than 3 hours away. Not gonna buy new tech that will need service and have to ship it 3 hours away. Rivian- get with the program and expand your service center footprint already!!! #OmahaNE
I trust your Mom's electrician used a commercial grade NEMA 14-50r vs. a residential grade (e.g., Home Depot) receptacle... DON'T trust using a residential grade product!!!
This is an exciting story to follow! Defender -> R1S seems like a natural progression
I know you want that Defender, don't lie to me Kyle :P

@@petehelme7714 Hopefully this will motivate Land Rover to make some good EVs soon.

Mom seems pretty chill.
Will there be a followup once her R1S arrives?
Congratulations, Max's Mom.
The R1S is amazing! She won’t be disappointed!

Nice to meet your mom.
And your neighbor.

Great interview with Mom and Mom's neighbor, Ollie. So interesting. It's so awesome folks can use their NEMA or 120V outlets to charge their vehicles.
Great video Max!
Good decision, the R1S is a fantastic vehicle. I'm betting (based on my experience with mine) she'll love it.
The cord should be long enough to reach the front of the vehicle from there
Your neighbor needs Undor.
Under garbage door cable management.
I’ve got the same color R1T. Good times.
Yea, more Virginia Rivians! Welcome

Nice video Max, ty. Your mother's neighbor lives in his garage ?!!
Can’t wait for this r2. Can’t afford the r1s but the r2 might be perfect. Dying for a Rivian
Your Mom will learn a lot and stay up on the new tech.
Thank You for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤
See them more and more in DMV area
Ouch personal property tax in Virginia. I sure don’t miss that!
Kewl to have input from your mom. Acorn doesn't fall far from the tree theory reinforced!

Hopefully the electrician installed a Hubbell or Bryant, not that garbage fire starting Leviton!
The neighbor sounds like Chris Farley
Go Hoos!
mom is loaded! seeing a theme of the OOS crew....
Yes successful people attract each other. It's a beautiful thing. Always strive for more in life.
I think Kyle is gonna be mad seeing your mom getting rid of that Defender hahaha
So sad that even people relatively new to ev's are aware of the horrors of fast charging. Imagine where ev sales might be if ccs was like Tesla.
Get your mom some rock sliders and send her out on a trail!!
If the non-Tesla charging networks did their job, EVs would have taken off. Their bad reputation has dampened it.
Big surprise, you and your Mom look very similar.
7000 pound 90 thousand dollar suv to just putter around town. Kind of a waste of money if you ask me.
