Good to know there are fellow enthusiasts here is Oregon. I'm in southern Oregon and was able to get a spare delivered early on in my ownership but not before I picked up a nail and just made it to Les Schwab who took great care of me after I did some education. I'm even more rural that you guys in Bend. I've had my truck there in Bend a couple of times. More central gathering sounds interesting though.
On my first big road trip with my R1T we picked up shrapnel on I95 and it took me 3 days to get a replacement tire installed. I now have a spare tire in the appropriate space. I will never drive the truck without a full sized spare again. Of course I have the 21 inch tires.
Thanks guys. Would have been interesting to hear if Tyler (?) called Rivian's roadside assistance and how that played out. I had an incident last fall where I had to get my R1S towed. First called Rivian support. Since it was an at-fault incident and not warranty related, all Rivian roadside assistance provided was coordination of the towing company and would make sure they came out with a flatbed instead of a tow truck. It was that or let Rivian flatbed it to their service center for $55 initial charge plus $6.50/mile. It would have been over $400. So I next called my motor club and had my R1S flatbeded to a Rivian authorize repair center only 8 miles away. Cost: $0. Since then I've added emergency roadside assistance (which includes towing) endorsement to my auto insurance for as little as $9 per 6 months and will tow my vehicle I believe as far as 200 miles. Live and learn.
In my experience roadside assistance just contracts out towing to the cheapest service in the county you broke down in which sends whatever truck they have. It's luck of the draw whether you get a competent driver. I've used Fix-A-Flat before and the tire repair shop just said the fumes from grinding off the stuff were obnoxious, they appreciated being warned beforehand and I made sure to tip the guy that handled it.
I love my Rivian but my flat tire experience almost made me throw in the towel and sell my truck. Rivian towed my truck to a Discount Tire just to have the Service Center turn around and tow my truck a 2nd time despite me saying "under no circumstance is the truck to be towed" in order to install a tire and wanted me to pay for it. Best part: price of the tow quoted from Rivian went from $112 the night before to $260 the next day for the same trip.
@@skylerwilliams in this case the reason for the 2nd tow was because I had just put on 4 new Pirelli tires. Had a blowout on the 2nd drive and there were no tires available for sale in the US

I would prefer a full size spare but Rivian was only offering a compact spare tire for my 22s on my R1S LE. Better than not having a spare at all.
Full size spare is especially important with the 21s due to tire availability.

Would not have been of help here in Central Oregon, closest SC's are on the Westside of the Cascades.
160 miles away.
Good point, Chuck

We need to do a video for both equipment needed & process.

@@michaelwiggins3663 dang, that's crazy!
Great story and love the community can help each other out. If we can get a tire change shopping list in the description that would be cool.
Good call, we should put this together

I ordered a Modern Spare, Rivian has seemed to be sold out of the spare tire kit for quite a while?
They were...the inventory for spares was going on new vehicles.
We still need good, affordable aftermarket wheel options...
I called and ordered mine last week and they installed it on Friday.
