Would love to hear a discussion on the standard with LFP vs the other battery options. Starting to think the Standard is actually the better option if you don’t care about the performance since the charging curve is a bit better and you can safely charge to 100. When accounting for that, not sure there is a major difference in the miles you can drive generally. First leg of a long road trip being the exception perhaps.
Hey man, thanks for the review, well made and interesting. I am getting the same version R1S, silver with the 22" wheels. Were you able to make it from Houston to Austin on one charge with no range anxiety?
I get from Houston to Austin using about 75-80% of the battery on the 20" wheels. Buccees in Waller/Bastrop have Tesla charging stations with CCS docks. So it's really a short stop at Buccees and you're good. Will say though, CCS chargers in Austin suck, so I always end up at a Tesla station with an adapter or Buccees!
Based on the cars I’ve owned, all the EVs (Model Y, R1S, R1T) were just slightly more expensive than my Acura TLX. But the EVs were also more expensive. This is in TX though. Might be different where you are!
When you take your foot off the accelerator and the regenerative braking kicks in, do the brake lights turn on to let the drivers behind you know that you are slowing down?
@@JimmyTriesWorld good to know! Technology Connections did a video on the Hyundai Ioniq and one of his complaints was that the brake lights don't go on if you aren't physically pushing the pedal.
Bluetooth was the worst sounding audio source I tried. High recommend trying another test drive on a “premium” audio configured R1S. The latest update fixes most of my audio complaints on the R1S. It sounds quite good now
The Rivian is MUCH more practical and good looking the Tesla's "truck" offering. We've been holding off on an EV until a better charging infrastructure is in place (if I live that long). They're too expensive to just use for grocery shopping in town.
For $75.000 plus this vehicle should be premium all around. That's the problem I have with the higher priced Tesla. They charge a premium price, but you don't fell you are getting a premium product. I'll rather spend that amount money on a BMW or Lexus, ICE or EV.
Agreed that the interior is not as luxe feeling as a BMW or Lexus, those are much nicer. These newer EV brands kind of focus on premium software features instead to make up for it, which might not be for everyone. The Ascend trim on the tri max R1S is probably where it gets close to a BMW or Lexus but that’s 100k 🙃
Love CarPlay/ Android Auto! While Rivian’s infotainment isn’t bad and makes for some experiences that currently aren’t possible on CarPlay or AA, having them in addition to the current infotainment would be great.
Not gonna lie. I hated the front of the Rivians for a long time. But now it’s just “ok”. Same with the cybertruck. I mean. It’s ugly but in a “it’s so ugly it’s interesting” kind of way?
If you believe those reports then Rivian was also rated highest owner satisfaction. From my own experience it is the most “unreliable” new car I’ve owned due to software glitches here and there. But they do get fixed quickly and is otherwise has been my favorite vehicle to date!
Love Rivian and the R1S . Can’t wait for the R2.
R2 looked fantastic in person. Looking forward to it too! 😀
Ain't no way I am driving to north Houston for service, Houston is too far away from Houston
You have to live in Houston to understand that statement. 💯
LOL classic comment
Picking up a Trimax R1T in a couple of weeks to drive on Maui. Yeehaw! Thanks for review.
Jealous. Those tri max interiors look fantastic!
The headlights grow on you as they do to everyone after a while 😎
Love the Rivian, waiting out for the R2 & R3.
Saw the R2 in Austin. It’s a great looking car inside/out!
Definitely getting the R2 when it comes out.
This guy has money

Thanks for this. I am interested in gertign a rivian in the future!

Would you choose the R1S or the Lucid gravity?
Is there a significant difference in the cost of insurance over owning a gas vehicle?

Yes
Yes! Lights turn on like a regular car!

I test drove a gen 2 S yesterday and had the same impression of the audio from drivers seat, just using Bluetooth from my phone

Good Review

Agreed. Luckily there’s many more EV options of late and at much more reasonable price points. The charging infrastructure gets better every year!
I'm waiting for the R2 but my brain keeps finding excuses to just lease the R1S.
Woohoo! 🎉

Agree. Android Auto / Autoplay is a deal breaker.
Love CarPlay/ Android Auto! While Rivian’s infotainment isn’t bad and makes for some experiences that currently aren’t possible on CarPlay or AA, having them in addition to the current infotainment would be great.
Same thing in terms of HOD, a deal breaker. Why can't they put HUD on their vehicles. Even $30-40,000 vehicles have them.
There is no such thing as minor nitpicks in a 100k car IMO.
Headlight looks like a Dyson fan
That would explain why these cars are so expensive. The Dyson tax 🤔
Just casually dropping 100k on a vehicle...
Haha. No. I couldn’t imagine dropping 100k. That’s why this is the lowest trim option with many internal debates with myself :)
I'm going through those debates now 😅
Nah i hate carplay some people are just brainwashed by apple car play
Rivian are EVs that Tesla Model Y and Cybertruck driver should own.
Why do almost all designers of electric cars make those ridiculous looking fronts.... why do they have to be so ugly all the time!?
Not gonna lie. I hated the front of the Rivians for a long time. But now it’s just “ok”. Same with the cybertruck. I mean. It’s ugly but in a “it’s so ugly it’s interesting” kind of way?
Ryvian the most unreliable car...
