i found this video today after i had a conversation with my aunt about moisturizers and hyaluronic acid , she studied cosmetology , and i can say you re pretty honest doctor because she said exactly the same things.... your advices are truthfull and thank you for that! Have a nice day everyone, whoever watches this !!
Thank you sooooooo much Dr. Lim for your honesty; because of your advice I have saved a butt load of $$$$$$$$ on not buying unnecessary products that won’t benefit me. I’m African American and don’t have that many issues but have taken your advice on how to combat the signs of aging with your recommendations of products. I just had my 52 birthday a day ago but many people I come across think I’m 36 or 37. I always stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and follow a pretty decent skincare routine the benefits my skin, so thank you for all that you do and the time you take to help all of us with great information.
I love how you say the tub of lotion will last a decade. Makes me feel better about not throwing things out after 6-18 months like the back of the jars say to do!
Really simple topic that is very subjective. Facial moisturisers - why you should use them and don't waste your money on expensive ones! Go for something that agrees with your skin. Dr Davin Lim, Laser and aesthetic dermatologist. Brisbane. Australia.
Thank you Dr Lim!! I used Cetaphil for many years and I get lots of complements and the glow on my face. My patients friends and family ask me what is the secret? My answer is simple drink plenty of water, eat lots of greens ,no make up and used Cetaphil .Also do not let stressed get to and get plenty of sleep and be humble.
So glad for the honesty. I have used a regime for decades, on my face and neck. Wash face well, apply Ponds Cold Cream, and a thin veil over that of Vaseline. By the time I get the coffee pot/cup washed up...ready to apply my day makeup. Not greasy, just moist. And look, as I am told often, way younger than they discover my age to be. Love you for being so honest. Women are paying for and buying an illusionary dream. Just not right.
CeraVe PM Face Lotion is outstanding. Very hydrating without stinging and no fragrance. I can even put it on my eyelids without stinging or eye tearing.
@@SuperKoreanzombie I was struggling with hormonal acne and could not get it under control. I bought the Obagi line and it was helping, but not curing it. Dr Davin, after binge-watching your videos, you are my first youtube subscription. Thanks so much for the education about TEWL. Therefore, the money I will be saving on skin care products is going to be put to better use with laser treatments. Thanks so much for your candid approach to patient care...and you little one is adorable!
I find this so interesting because I notice a huuuge difference in my skin when I use my serums. I use the ordinary and it is good but I also use aspect extreme B and it’s expensive but definitely improves the appearance of my skin even more so
@@katex2467 Well sure, but it all depends on the ingredients in the serums. Not all serums are created equal. If they contain effective ingredients, then they'll most like provide some benefit. Wow so informative!!!! I had no idea that moisturizers do NOT put moisture into your skin!!! Wow!!! I had no idea!!! Thank you so much for the information Dr. Lim!!!
My favourite moisturiser is organic aloe Vera gel, if I’m feeling particularly dry then I mix a few drops of pure vitamin e oil from health food shops like Holland and Barrett’s. This combo is great just before bed and you wake up with plump and youthful skin, if you use it in the day it’s an easy way to get that Korean glassy skin look too!
I just started using La Roche Posays "lipkar body milk" on my face for the day. It comes in a huge bottle and is way less expensive than the "face" lotion but has pretty much the same ingredients. I like it a lot and as an oily girl have had no break outs from it (yet).
I moved to France 5 yrs ago. I have been influenced by what I see and hear here. Overwhelming, the deal is cleanse with the micellar water, moisturise in the morning, night moisture slightly heavier; with perhaps a mask once or twice a month as per the season. Just clean and moisturise with a good product - really simple. (I choose a middle of range paraban and scent free that suits my skin type). My skin has never looked better, nearly 50 and I am happy with a simple routine and good results. I am fairly fortunate to have the wide range of French skin care products that exist here, at very reasonable prices too. Thanks for the channel, watch it frequently, always learning!
I love cerave :) I used to have really bad acne and used lot of topicals and oral medication to reduce the inflammation, which only irritated my skin even more. I've used Epiduo, Proactive, Tazorac, Neutrogena, you name it. I've been using cerave for almost a year and my skin has never been this healthy. I'm really happy about the results. It sure took patience and consistency.
@@Luv2shop803 I'm sorry it took me so long to reply! I used their products targeted towards drier skintypes, even though my skin felt dehydrated and greasy at the time. It balanced my oil production and rehydrated my skin. I used their gentle cleanser, pm moisturizer and am moisturizer in the mornings. Id use tea tree oil at night on any stubborn breakouts. My skincare game got better with time too. But sticking to that routine for a while really helped clear and heal my skin. It gets some time to get used to the cleanser too if you're new to cream cleansers (which I was). My routine has changed now, but that was a good start for me. I hope that helps. Best of wishes on your skincare journey.
I've just discovered Cerave (I live in the UK and don't think it's been available here for long) and I am seriously impressed with it as a moisturiser for rosacea prone skin. It has ceramides, fatty acids and cholesterol and is helping with barrier repair - plus its about £12.00 for a huge tub.
Cerave and cetaphil, I have both , work great , my skin is very dry and sensitive, cetaphil is more moisturizing and heavy than cerave . But they’re awesome.
When he said “ let’s talk about higher end moisturizers “ Is cetaphil and la roche cheap ? I once bought a la roche posay sunblock , i starved for months lol
Noha N those are cheap in my country because they are non specialised products since they are easily available in the drug stores. I think your country those middlemen agents that import them are taking too much profit hence the more expensive price here in my country they always go on sales.
lol. I agree with you. Marcelle, biore, etc... would be cheaper brands. if you are looking for a good suntan lotion?? Mary Kay sells the best one I have ever tried. even kept the mosquitos off of me.
Cerave cream in the tub! I use it day and night! It is thick but I find if I put it on after I cleanse and my face is wet it dries matte. A little off putting the first time or two when you start to use it but it's awesome. No breakouts and my skin stays hydrated and it helps keep the elements of my job off my face. If it's just too thick for you, try the lotion. It's lightweight and doesn't have petrolatum in it.
I moisturize my face and neck w/ Cetaphil in the jar, under $10. When my eczema flares up (usually when the season changes), I switch to Kiehls Skin Rescuer until my skin is soft, supple and calm again. Kiehls is expensive so I apply it when needed.
I agree that one type doesn’t fit all. Everyone has different skin types and needs. I’ve used inexpensive to very expensive moisturisers over the last 30 years. The ones that work best for my combination skin (dry cheeks and normal to slightly oily tzone) are bodyshop vitamin e creme for dry skin and the Bobbi brown vitamin enriched face base.
Because I have dry skin I never buy expensive moisturisers anymore. I just go through them too quickly. My strategy? Buy a fairly bland but hydrating and non irritating moisturiser and get antioxidants and dna protection ingredients through serums and concentrates. These ingredients tend to appear in higher concentrations in a Serum simply because in a moisturiser they have to make more way for ingredients that give a moisturiser its humectant and occlusive properties like glycerin. I use Cetaphil moisturiser or Avene Tolerance Extreme. Under that, I treat with Paula’s Choice C15 Superbooster in the AM and retinol in the PM
Sad but true that moisturizer doesn’t get rid of wrinkles. I have just recently learned that the moisturizer ‘s job was to hold anything previously applied or the skin. Great info!!
Love this video! My favorites are Hado Labo Skin Plumping Gel Cream and then a layer of CeraVe: PM at night and AM in the morning. CeraVe moisturizers have ceramides, niacinamides, hyaluronic acid and the AM version has a combined physical and chemical SPF 30. Both the Hado Labo and the CeraVe products are in the same price range as Cetaphyl but they are ever so much better. Cheers!
urghhh too bad niacinamide made my skin breakout.. i can't use hada labo serums/lotions and i bought the niacinamide from the ordinary and it breaks my skin..
Very very helpful. Hard for us consumers to see thru the hype, but you educated us common sensically and clarified-although I’ll have to write it down and carry it with me, or some beautifully displayed Fancher packaging or pretty models’ faces may lead me to spend far more than necessary. Also loved your video on Elizabeth Arden 8-hour Cream! Makes me want to get a horse....what??
I love the Drunk Elephant moisturizers! I use the La La Retro Whip in the winter and the B-Hydra Gel in the summer and I think they both work very well!
I'm in my 50's and finally seeing the effects of not wearing SPF. I love skincare so why I skipped that step is crazy. Currently, I love the texture of Kiehl's 24hr facial cream, I'm fairly confident that it doesn't really protect for 24hrs, nonetheless I'm using it. In Australia, we pay around $70 per 125ml. I also was a big fan of Origins "Drink Me Up" for the night as I am in love with the fragrance in it. After watching this video, I will most definitely give the less expensive versions a go.
thank God finally someone saying truth and busting these marketing hypes.....I'm a doctor myself and so pleased to see this .....we need to more ppl like u to fight this consumerism trend
Cetaphil Redness Relieving Night Moisturizer is my favorite, it has ceramides and niacinimide. I used to use CeraVe, but the newer formula of CeraVe PM breaks me out. There is also a Cetaphil Redness Relieving Morning Moisturizer which is an SPF 20 tinted mineral sunscreen. Thanks for the helpful info, appreciate it.
So true, I used La Mèr years ago, I never had any particular problem, and honestly I prefer 100 times CeraVe Pm or Embryolisse..hands down even now that I use RetinA. I wouldn't waste my money like that anymore. Same applies to SisleyA.. Great informative video. Thanks!
For extremely sensitive skin (compromised barrier due to topical steroids) I really like the La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra range, I love the moisturizer, I've been using it for years, even on my eye area with no problems. Also I second the doc on using vaseline products - my skin gets very dehydrated and itchy sometimes (well actually quite a lot of times) , so I need something more occlusive, and I always have my Aquaphor on hand. Also, for those like me suffering with very sensitive skin, avoid anything with fragrance, alcohol, tap water on the face, aggressive cleansers, any scrubs, harsh exfoliants, essential oils, and always use a good broad-spectrum sunscreen.
Mine too Dilara Tüysüz - I've used that for many years & am nearly 60 with really good skin that looks years younger. I've not had any procedures yet but am considering something to replace the loss of structure now... I also use Karin Herzog 2% "Oxygen" cream, which is basically peroxide I suppose but it works for me. =)
I'm interested in what you think about brands such as "The Ordinary" and "NIOD," which seem more scientific, but is it just marketing? I'd love to see a no nonsense video on these skincare products. There is so much misinformation out there! There are also these 7 or 10 step Korean skincare regimens, which seems like an awful lot, and like it might just be marketing trying to convince people that they need more products. Any thoughts on that? I get the double cleanse, for makeup wearers, but the rest...? Apologies if you've already covered any if this.
@@CourtayMichele Honestly I am so happy that you have the time to do That😊, I really wish I could find the time to do that I think I do enough 1234 steps per AM and PM That should read 1,2,3,4,
He’s exactly like my dermatologist! Never try to endorse skincare products during consultation. She always emphasizes on proper cleansing, moisturization to lock in the moisture and sunblock (because tbh that’s all that your skin needs!). Even told me that topical vitamin e in the drug store is comparable to the expensive high-end brands (since it’s all about marketing) besides being readily available and cheaper! Kudos to you and to my dermatologist Dr Vivienne!
I just discover you and you are so NICE! And honest!!! Thank you so much for helping us and i hope you will never be harm in anyway bc of your honesty.
Three things that took away my acne and made my skin smoother was. Aloe Vera (I buy the plant and cut it up myself), cerave , and I use vitamin c powder to fade my dark marks. I also use a rose clay mask and it really helped a lot with my acne. My favorite is the rose clay mask from origins. It’s great for my super sensitive skin. Please make a video on face masks! I would love to hear your opinions on them.
I like the Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Invisible Finish Moisture Gel. Dries down really nice. Other moisturizers make me want to wash it off right away.
I like the skin balancing cleanser. Never tried their other products cause they gotten expensive, but I will definitely try the moisturizer. I also feel the same way about other moisturizers where I just want to rinse it off.
Thanks. Yes, many other great moisturisers, but got to limit to my top ones... every dermatolgoist has their own favs. All the best, Davin Lim, BRISBANE SKIN specialist.
Thank you, doc! I love the honesty and simplicity of this information. I'm sure social media has made your job more difficult, as people will follow the weirdest skin advice if it's hyped up - e.g. applying pure apple cider vinegar to your skin, using essential oils to treat various skin conditions, washing your face with baking soda, using exorbitantly priced designer perfumed water as a face mist, etc. Would you mind making a video addressing the addition of humectant products such as viscous hyaluronic acid toners and serums? I know you said in the video that hyaluronic acid doesn't work because it doesn't penetrate the skin, but is that true for even with ones containing different molecular sizes of hyaluronic acid? Many people say it's a great thing to add if your skin is dehydrated, others say it's not, particularly if you're living in a very dry environment. Also, please discuss if there is such a distinction exists between "dry" and "dehydrated" skin, because so many people mention this, but dermatologists say there's no medical difference. Are there any products that do actually hydrate the skin?
What about Korean products? They swear by it with 10 step routine. Their products ampoule, serums are heavily infused with peptides and actives which are touted to be anti aging. Can you do a video on those?
Lucy I think you haven tried Asian routine before. Perhaps you should go get your hands on some which are great. One fine example would be sunblock. Western sunblock sucks to this age in the 21st century for a simple fact that the FDA does not approve new tech since the 1970s you don’t even know what your missing out on gal.
@@replicxnt I have been doing 6 steps. I am 25 haha my acne cleared up, pigmentation gone. I also went to great lengths to get accessed by dermatologist famous amongst celebrities. From all the moisturizers you mentioned they all carry the ingredient "Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter" i heard that it is highly comedogenic for acne prone skin 🤔 is it true..?
I think shea butter is actually supposed to be non-comedogenic, or at least it doesn’t have a high chance of breaking you out. I have super acne prone skin and used raw shea butter for years without issue.
I am not sure who you wanted to answer, but the PM in the blue bottle for my face and also the massive pot for my skin ( not suitable for face as has mineral oil in) Hope this helps :)

Hydro boost by Neutrogena and 72h moisturizer by Clinique are my favourites 🎶
Thanks for this video, just found your page while looking up POD. I'm highly impressed with your knowledge and honesty! Thanks so much!!!!
Nice to hear the honesty. Would you do a video on dermatitis, and best cleansers, moisturizer. Thank you
Wish he was my dermatologist.
I would go see him every day even if I don’t have skin problems I be like my skin sees u and it gets hydrated 😏
@@justinekim4102 You are a MOOD!
Nivea made in Germany is the best... it literally solved all my skin problems.
Under that, I treat with Paula’s Choice C15 Superbooster in the AM and retinol in the PM
hey hey.. thanks for taking time to explain your skin care .. much appreciated, Dr Dav Lim
Dr David thank you so much for being so honest & sharing this information with us. This video has been extremely helpful.
Sad but true that moisturizer doesn’t get rid of wrinkles. I have just recently learned that the moisturizer ‘s job was to hold anything previously applied or the skin. Great info!!
Can you please do a video on best scar reduction techniques and products please.
Could you please do a video on best sunscreen product to use? Thanks. I really like your video.
Cheers!
Thanks for sharing.
Palladio 1500 Hado Labo and CeraVe are one of the best in skincare! 😄
urghhh too bad niacinamide made my skin breakout.. i can't use hada labo serums/lotions and i bought the niacinamide from the ordinary and it breaks my skin..
Scorpio Mystik where can we buy Hada Labo from ? Online I mean any trusted site?
Dr. Lim!!! I feel so much more confident buying products now after listening to your honest reviews!!
New sub 😁🤍
DAVIN, YOU ARE TOPER OF THE TOPS!!!
I use cheap cheap moisturizer and then I add some drops of face oil like rose hip or grape seed oil, it works fine for me :)
Thanks for sharing, D
@@drdavinlim I love rosehip oil , But only in the Winter months
I really appreciate the honesty!! Thank you for the great information. WILL use it!
We need more honesty like this!
I love the Drunk Elephant moisturizers! I use the La La Retro Whip in the winter and the B-Hydra Gel in the summer and I think they both work very well!
I know, they are great products. DL
I use Cerve moisturizer and Retin A for acne and anti-aging.
I love all of your videos. I’m learning a lot with them. Thank you very much for putting the effort of doing them.
Thanks for viewing. DL BRISBANE SKIN specialist.
Olay..all the way!!
Tried tens of Hi- Lo end products.
Olay is the best "affordable" brsnd for me.
kabsat dajaj I agree
I have tried some products you talked about in your videos and I am so happy I came across them, thank you :) I appreacite your advices
I agree with him with the La Roche Posay! Great moisturizer!
Thanks!
You are indeed welcomed.
Also, for those like me suffering with very sensitive skin, avoid anything with fragrance, alcohol, tap water on the face, aggressive cleansers, any scrubs, harsh exfoliants, essential oils, and always use a good broad-spectrum sunscreen.
my favourite moisturizer is dermalogica skin smoothing cream
+1, thanks for sharing. Davin Lim
paganheart I will get some voluma i think
Thank you thank you and again thank you! I really will following you, well your tips and advice, for the rest of my life!!!! Finally a reel doc.. 😊😊
Love The Ordinary/NIOD. And NOT expensive at all!
He did do a review on the ordinary. He liked it.
My skin looks it’s best when I do my ten step routine 💕
Thanks for viewing. Davin Lim
Loved this video! Loved your HONESTY!!! Thank You So Much.
please do a video why citrus based products cause blemishes and redness... citric acid, lemonene
Because they contain fragrance.
I'm Asian and I even buy my moisturizers. HAHAHAH omg I loved that so funny
Yeah ,got away with that. DL
I love your no filter lol
so funny haha
Dr Davin Lim please list the name of products , I need the name and brand of 3th moisturizer
@@anoniemmoet8984 la roche posay hydrophase
Three things that took away my acne and made my skin smoother was. Aloe Vera (I buy the plant and cut it up myself), cerave , and I use vitamin c powder to fade my dark marks. I also use a rose clay mask and it really helped a lot with my acne. My favorite is the rose clay mask from origins. It’s great for my super sensitive skin. Please make a video on face masks! I would love to hear your opinions on them.
+1 - thank you for sharing, Davin Lim
Starting to love your tips and videos Dr L.
Thx
Dr Lim, you're amazing!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for viewing, Davin Lim
Listing the products would b helpful
Yes, but I don't like to be seen as endorsing any company.. Like the Swiss, I like to be neutral. Dr Davin Lim BRISBANE SKIN specialist.
Listing would be helpful... can't see the label... don't now what product you are reviewing... for clarity
He wasn't reviewing. More just saying what he uses and to try something similar that suits your own skin.
Dr Davin Lim thank you for this helpful video but indeed listing will be helpful since you already mentioned them in the video.
@@drdavinlim ~ Haha, I saw what you did there!
Hi Davin great video as usual. I use Embryolisse which is a French Pharmacy brand. I buy it on line from Scotty's makeup.
Efpol, thanks for sharing... Davin Lm
It also is cruelty free. Sadly LaRoche Posay is not.
A video on facial moisturizers for oily and/or acne-prone skin would ge greatly appreciated, Dr Lim!
One day.... Davin Lim
Thank you! With so many products coming out it’s good to hear the “real deal!”
La Roche Posay Toleriane range are my favourite moisturisers and fortunately not very expensive in the UK!
Your incredible. I love your videos! Thank you so much!
Love u cause you tell the truth.painfully but honest.I 've starved to buy la mer or la praire.thanks doc.have a great year.Greatings from Greece.
Cheers, Davin Lim
Thank you for your honesty and real advice! 👍🏻👏🏻🙌🏻
Japanese moisturizers are great for me. it also lasts for a long time! ^^
What name?
What about Korean products? They swear by it with 10 step routine. Their products ampoule, serums are heavily infused with peptides and actives which are touted to be anti aging. Can you do a video on those?
Not necessary
Lucy I think you haven tried Asian routine before. Perhaps you should go get your hands on some which are great. One fine example would be sunblock. Western sunblock sucks to this age in the 21st century for a simple fact that the FDA does not approve new tech since the 1970s you don’t even know what your missing out on gal.
I do seven step routine which has cleared my acne and my lines have practically disappeared.
@@replicxnt I have been doing 6 steps. I am 25 haha my acne cleared up, pigmentation gone. I also went to great lengths to get accessed by dermatologist famous amongst celebrities. They are quite happy with my skin which is fitting of my age group. They asked me to do whatever I am doing and go in for facial cleanses and laser when I am 30.
Many thnks for being such an honest doc ,more power to your career
Cheers, Davin Lim
I subscribed bec ur a dematologist who talk honestly about other products. And utalk straight to the point. Thank u!😊
Everything from the Clinique moisture surge range is like actual heaven for my dry skin
Cerave PM ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Carol Guz love it too! I use it morning and night 😁
Always have a bottle of this in my stash. Great cheap product
Can you please tell me which cerave you use?
I am not sure who you wanted to answer, but the PM in the blue bottle for my face and also the massive pot for my skin ( not suitable for face as has mineral oil in) Hope this helps :)
Love the CeraVe fragrance free products.
Thanks for mentioning vaseline Doc.... The best in my opinion
Absolutely I agree
I like the Aveeno fragrance free moisturisers (skin relief and daily moisturising lotion). I hate feeling greasy and it sinks in nicely so it has been a great find for me. I also love the Pyunkung Yul Acne line gel cream, such a beautiful light moisturiser for my oily skin!
