    Perfect SUV for a Prius Prime owner going full electric. Toyota will sell lots of these thanks to price and solid Toyota quality. Yes quirky but its fine!

      The price. Let’s see how much they are once on dealer lot. Toyota isn’t planning to make many of these so expect to pay more. At which point the value proposition goes away.

      Toyota's "Quality" is grossly over-exaggerated!
      I'm a 'burned' Corolla owner...nice looking car still, but has been a pain in the ass mechanically with very expensive out of warranty repairs: Radiator problems, rear camber problems, electronic fuel injection problems...it never ends.

      @@swanvictor887 my only bad Corolla experience dates back to 1983, last year of the rwd model. They came out with a belt driven 1.6 litre engine, liquid cooled carburetor and it never ran right. The older 1.8 were indestructible. Modern cars are all very similar engineering wise. Not much to differentiate one brand from another. It'll get worst with BEV. They'll just stick different labels on Chinese cars and call it a day.

    It’s time…
    Many have complained about the dearth of “affordable” EVs. Yet, all the car reviews I read and watch compare any and all EVs to the likes of Tesla Model S, Porsche, MB, BMW, et al…
    Endless comparisons of HP, 0-60 times, premium materials, etc… all end up putting down any kind of affordable EV because they don’t live up to Roadster standards.
    Time to let that mentality go. It’s not doing the widespread adoption of EVs any good. Anyone with any sense is already well aware of the top tier brands and models. That info is out there.
    Let’s encourage manufacturers to produce economy models - affordable, durable, reliable. Yes, they won’t have all the gee whiz top notch gizmos. That’s not the MO of an affordable vehicle.
    Can we get some real world reviews of real world models? Those reviews don’t have to insincerely hype bad products, but they don’t have to knock them down simply because they’re more affordable, either.

      I think the issue people have is that you don't need to compromise on those things. For the same price as this, you can get a much better car from Toyota's competitors. Yes, this is fine for what it is, but it's also fair to be disappointed that BZ4X is not very competitive in its segment.

    I think you're putting far too much emphasis on the FWD. It's likely saving Toyota assembly time and reducing costs which can translate to more competitive pricing; which will be critical in the coming years if they have to drop prices. It's likely saving space in the rear. Plus it's typically far better in winter scenarios without needing to buy a set of winter tires.
    The charge plug... I mean are we really complaining about having to push a second tab to open the DCFC plug? Bit surprised you didn't mention the sunshade on the moonroof as not all cars have one. Nor did you show the trunk space. You pointed out the lack of HVAC controls in the rear, which at this price point is expected. Definitely agree on the complaints about the gloss black and the phone charger situation. but in terms of data connection, does this have wireless? Android Auto / Apple Carplay?
    "Not Tesla acceleration"... Yeah well the model Y starts at $63,000, and this is about $34.5k after tax credit ... so there is that. Lol... like ... why would one even think to compare acceleration on these two vehicles? You could buy two of these for the price of the entry level model Y.
    Doesn't this vehicle have good ground clearance as well, making it good for off road scenarios... say to get to a camp site? No mention of road noise or road feel at all in this review.
    People in the market for this car will buy it as a reliable all purpose appliance to get them from point A to point B using its large size and utility.
    No one is buying this car as a sport car to floor around corners with traction control off... or floor it in general. This is why a good mix of reviewers is always a good thing. Where's the "grandma reviews cars" channel with a person who mostly cares about how quiet and smooth the car drives, how easy it is to get in, visibility, how easy it is to operate and find everything they're looking for. IMO, concentrating reviews so heavily on performance may be great for people who want a performance car, but it does very little for your every day driver. If performance is being prioritized, then why review this car at all?
    Now if you said something like "The FWD takes away from the turning circle"... then that would be a good complaint for every day driving.

    Like a lot of people posted here. RWD isn't the best for certain climate issues like heavy snow or rain, especially snow. A FWD vehicle provides better handling in those situations, as well as better handling in curves. If and when a car like this is made available (with a few changes to the positions of the interior climate controls, and infotainment connection points) they would likely be more appealing to people who already drive FWD vehicles. And know FWD has better handling than RWD in varied climate situations.

    Thanks for your drive review of this new EV, which is the sister car of Subaru's new Solterra that I am planning on buying when it finally debuts next year. Not a fan of the front wheel drive in Toyota's test drive model. I much prefer Subaru's all-wheel drive version of this EV, and I like Subaru's styling over what Toyota did with their alphabet mashup version. However, there is one thing I've been trying to get an answer for, so far without success, so I'm hoping you can enlighten me. In your drive review, you had a brief mention about the one-pedal braking feature. Since you don't have to put your foot on the brake to bring the car to a stop, when exactly do the brake lights come on? I'm hoping the answer is that when you let up off of the accelerator pedal and the car starts slowing down, that will activate the brake lights. Otherwise, if you don't need to step on the brake pedal, how are drivers behind you to know the car in front is slowing or stopping in time to avoid a potential collision?

    To me, the biggest problem with the bZ4X is the charging time. From what I've read, it's worse than the Bolt in the real world. I think that's 100% fine for a commuter car, but it's disappointing that they're so far behind the rest of the industry.

    why does everyone think FWD has better snow traction when EVs are 50/50 weight distribution? Wouldnt you want traction on the axle that has the more weight?

    It's a really good looking EV. A lot of things still bother me about this car. First the name just turns me off. Worst automotive name ever. You've got to be drunk out your mind to even think about a name like this. Next, passenger seat has NO electric adjustment. Seriously is this 2022 or the 80's? Ridiculous that front seat passengers still have a freaking manually adjust their seat. Epic fail. And I haven't even mention the most important things like range and charging options. Lol.

      Right!! It’s like Toyota decided to use 2016 technology to make their 2022 cars! Price and horrible 20-80 fast charging would make it a no go for me!! Bonus I don’t love the style or the name! Isn’t the 4X part of the name to indicate 4 wheel drive! Shouldn’t this be a BZ2X?

    Even worse than Atrocious when you see the price of it
    This is an EV which is at least 5 years out of date and looks as if it was developed and built in a rush
    Can’t see it selling well over here 🚗👎

    Toyota Just can't help themselves with making an EV some quirky pseudofuturistic monstrosity. You don't get new EV customers like that. You get more customers by them saying "wow, that's a sexy car... wait, that's an EV?" Not "Let me get an EV... eh... that design is quirky." It's like they don't want to sell these things. Why don't these car makers just put the PRND as buttons in the dash to the left of the screen. Save that space.

    Tire traction is a function of the coefficient of grip and weight over the tire. ICE FWD cars are around 65/35 in front-rear weight distribution. For EV with a 50/50 weight distribution it theoretically shouldn't matter except maybe for oversteer with RWD vs understeer with FWD. When engineered well, EV systems have much better traction control than ICE because it's instant and you don't have engine fighting the brakes. But this is Toyota which is notorious for horrendous driving dynamics and stability control engineering (RAV4 Prime snap oversteer as a case-in-point). People are going to buy these FWD things and then complain about terrible tread life on the front tires.

    • @jasonshinton
      @jasonshinton ปีที่แล้ว

      With 50/50 weight distribution you want RWD because weight shifts to the rear axle under acceleration and when climbing hills. I can only image how bad this vehicle will be trying to climb inclines in the snow.

    wow... people laugh at 'Tesla fan-boys' and claim they're all blinded by Musk, yet, reading the comments, I would say there are as many utterly blind, devoted Toyota disciples, equally as daft!
    While I find the Tesla fan-base amusing, at least I can see their point as Tesla seems to be leaving the rest of the auto industry in its wake...but the amazing, sheer blind brand loyalty to Toyota is astonishing too. Pity really: they're gonna miss them when they go bust.....

  • @stevedowler2366
    @stevedowler2366 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Meh. Wouldn't buy it. Weird front styling with that mustache and sideburns look, like the Mach-e droopy mustache looking front. Why clutter up the external styling on so many EVs, especially the BMW "monkey butt" grill where you just need a minimal low scoop inlet for cooling. The Countach, McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari styling manages to get air in without some massive snarling grill out front. The Corvette 13-toothed shark front set the sport coupe style for decades but around the same time the MGA grill was low key. It's just an odd element driven by buyers who want big grills as some sort of identity marker. Look at the Ford, Dodge Ram and other American pickups. Ford is smart to keep that look on the Lightning as a way to retain the F-150 cult.
