@WillMuny I think you are severely underestimating how much situation matters for quarterbacks, but my video didn't at any point say they were 'screwed.' If Tom Brady goes #1 overall to Houston in 2002, he doesn't become a 7X Super Bowl champion. There are exceptional talents who can overcome situation but they are few and far between and at QB, I think it's even more limited because of how their treated in regards to wins and losses. I could list several non-QBs who were able to play on bad teams for full careers and make the HOF, but for quarterbacks the wins matter more. If they lose, teams move on. That's not speculation or opinion, it's a fact. It's such a fact that if we simply use your example, over the first three seasons of Lee Roy Selmon's career they used 9 different QB's as starters. QB's get more blame and more credit than the deserve for wins and losses but that's the nature of the beast. The 'backwards mentality' you name is simply putting the onus where it belongs, on the organization. If you draft a QB and he gets sacked 76 times, that is bad team building. If you draft a QB and the team changes offensive coordinators each of your first three seasons, that is going to hurt the QB. If you draft a QB first overall and the owner overrides your coach and benches him, that's bad culture. Appreciate your comment, but if Lee Roy Selmon had been the QB for the Bucs he would have been replaced rather than become an HOF player.
I think the Texans' situation with David Carr should be a lesson that if you want to start an expansion team, don't draft a quarterback. Take a veteran player or someone's who's a backup. Mark Brunell is the best case for the opposite. He was a backup to Brett Favre before he got acquired by the Jaguars in their first season and he would go on to be the best quarterback in their franchise history.
@@KWCline91 I agree. The Texans needed to build infrastructure, and in my opinion you do that by building up the lines.
