Stopped watching sports media in 2009. Found Pat in 2019 and started watching again. Just his show. I was kinda mad at the espn deal because he didn't need espn. Espn would have failed without him. He could have built his own media company.
@CodyBunker Pat's a good one to pick back up, I would suggest the Dan Patrick show also. Their show gives good analysis and is pretty entertaining overall.
Just before the ESPN deal, Pat said in his show that he was looking to get involved with a network so they could take some of the behind the scenes and production stuff off his plate. He said with a lot of the crew starting families and Pat's schedule it was becoming a burden to set up things like remote broadcasts and solving a lot of technical issues on the fly. He said he wanted to hand that off to a network to handle. Starting his own broadcast company would saddle him with more responsibility instead of less. He's also mentioned that this is not a forever thing for him. He'll do it until he doesn't need or want to anymore and probably just end it. He retired in the same fashion. Saying, once all of his people and family members were out of debt and taken care of, he felt good walking away to pursue something else. Just like he parlayed his playing career into a broadcast career, I can see him turning this venture into something that generates more income, passively. Being part of an ownership group or something of the like, I assume is the goal. Lastly, with the FanDuel deal falling apart he needed to supplement the income with something else.
@yukoncornelius73 I think you're on the right track with his next act. Also appreciate all the extra info you added in the comment. He definitely wanted others to handle the backend, he has figured out what he wants to do and is good at and lets others take care of areas where he isn't.

You can argue what Pat is doing is also helping SAS. SAS is currently working on a huge deal with ESPN and can totally leave with no harm to himself because of the Icon he has become to the NBA and younger audience. Also creating his own show on TH-cam
@LobsterMoney Definitely can make this argument. SAS is going to benefit from it somehow, but I'm not sure if it helps him long-term or diminishes his value.
Personally I just got over the debate format because of the hot takes that come from it. For me Macfee was refreshing. Good for him that he’s doing well
Worth noting that one of the biggest thing he’s overcome is the toxic wing of his own fans. Go back to that episode where they announced the ESPN deal and look at the comments. For every one comment of support there were 100 calling him a sellout or otherwise grieving what they perceived to be the loss of the show. Granted, he could have done a better job bracing people (e.g. telling them in advance that everything was still going to be on YT uncensored, etc.) but still, a lot of his own fans had written him off at the most pivotal moment.
@mattrobinson828 Fair points. I think every fan base has toxic portions and his was quick to question the ESPN move. I have appreciated how he dealt with it
@corey4109 My view is that SAS is rooting for him if it helps his negotiations, not sure that would remain the case if Pat passes him in value in ESPN's eyes but hard to know until it happens.

@asmeroe764 I think he took Dan Patrick and Howard Stern's formats and added his own spin to it. It also has the friends talking in the barbershop/garage feel. They have blended concepts they liked and put their spin in a pretty damn unique way.
Missed all the WWE stuff that also made him noise throughout the years… I think also make some focus on how big this blew up on TH-cam after leaving barstool, and the small incremental appearances on college game day prior to actually being permanent on it. I would also include all his personal relationships with current and prior athletes, coaches, journalists, etc… would maybe we wouldn’t see on national television. Allowing them to really be themselves. All in all this was a great video recap. Nice timeline! ❤🎉🎉🎉
@micahandexler3304 Easily could have been another 10 minutes to dive deeper into what he's done. His and his team's business prowess is pretty remarkable. Not to mention how talented of an athlete he was in the NFL and in WWE. He is carving out a lane for athletes that is different than anything we've seen before. Pretty great to watch someone living their dream their way. Thanks for watching!
Dave was not taking a shot at anyone there he was just venting that being the one to change the game of sportsbook advertisement came at the price of getting the worst deal. Thats changed now though since he got Barstool back for a dollar and probably got a bag from DK.

As a fan, wasn't happy with the ESPN thing. We all thought he would get controlled and watered down - Lots of us were wrong, but Pat said "this is what's happening" ... and its turned out to be everything he says it was going to be. That's a rarity, but Pat is a rarity. Pat is the product, no one else can do what he does the way he does it and maintain consistency. When he called out that ESPN exec for sabotage I thought "Holy shit, no one has ever done this, not with his face in the camera and stating names"... no one's ever done that. And know what? He cut the head off the snake, he beat the establishment~never happens. That's why Pat is an anomaly, the lightning you can not put in a jar.
@radamus210 When he called out Norby Williamson, I thought they were going down a short path to the exit. He shocked me with getting past that, then I realized ESPN needs him more than the other way around.

@Man_Darino As a WWE fan, I deeply appreciate the connection. Pat is playing a version of Stone Cold and any of us who watched in the late 90's/early 00's loved Steve Austin. I have to agree that it's refreshing because it feels authentic, it doesn't have to be crazy smart or even the best show because the team feels 'real.' Thanks for the comment!
Pats the best. I started listening back when it was called mcafee and hawk sports talk. I would pretty religiously listen to a local sports radio out In Portland called rip city radio, there were local blazers shows I really liked but at noon they had some national shows like rich eisen or I think they had pff for a while. But when eisen quit getting aired for a bit there was a show with hawk and mcafee talking about weed and cussing and shit on AM RADIO lol, I was like WHAT IS THIS??? In a good way, and became a daily listener since. I moved back home to south Dakota and no longer have my local blazers radio on the car but I like to think rip city radio turned me into pat way early. And I’ll neve forget that
Yeah but people like Steven A and Shannon Sharpe are copying what Pat did. Both have their own TH-cam channels. Hell Shannon has two and has more subscribers than Pat does. Pat has paved the way in just a few short years.
The boys reaction to fuck Boston Connor tells you everything you need to know about the success of his show and brand and the sports fans they connect with
The delusion is strong in that one. To say he’s the best and nobody deserves more is patently absurd. He, many times, participates in engagement farming or is an edge lord (to use modern lingo). There are many videos on the internet that point out his outright lies on things or his lack of knowledge when it comes to sports. That’s where I think Pat is different; he openly admits he’s not the brightest guy in the room and when is ignorant of something. He has navigated the business world flawlessly, without an agent, and has taken maximum advantage of every opportunity in front of him. Hope his success continues.
Stephen A Smith is watching sports media change and pass him by. I have never been a huge fan of his, but his run is pretty incredible. I just think he has been outflanked by the podcast/TH-cam spaces and I'm not sure he'll catchup. Maybe, but I don't think it's likely.
Didn’t see the entire clip..was DP hating on Pat or just stating his opinion that Pat isn’t a journalist? I find that Pat does his own style of journalism, he just happens to do it in a manner that is unbelievably entertaining. The olds and the whites don’t seem to care for it bc he’s not wearing a suit and is not stodgy in his approach. He’ll keep winning..
I do not think Dave took a shot at anyone. He did make the comparison that FanDuel could have had both Barstool and Pat for less $. He does talk sometimes about how Pat used the stuff he learned from Dave to become as big as he is. Still all love between them.
@bubbaballer88 DP has been a big proponent of Pat. McAfee has taken concepts from Dan's show and he's never been anything other than supportive. I think he was simply stating it, rather than meaning it as a critique.
@joestroup7679 Dave's comment timing was the part that I think led to speculation, but I agree he was likely going at FanDuel. Dave has been known to run hot and cold though, so who knows during that moment. Portnoy may be a future video, because his impact on media is also pretty remarkable.
@LloydBraun13 Bill had a point, but he was also being petty. Bill might have a little envy of the freedom ESPN is giving Pat vs what he got there, but idk.
The delusion is strong in SAS. To say he’s the best and nobody deserves more is patently absurd. He, many times, participates in engagement farming or is an edge lord (to use modern lingo). @bubbaballer88 his business acumen is a treasure in itself. I'm sure it's a team, but those folks deserve a big hand in his success. @No_Dice_Leroy Pat has followed a lot of what Rogan does, and mixed in his personal touches.
Same I was a sophomore in HS in 2018 sitting in study hall next to my buddy who told me to watch this clip of McAfee doing standup, more specifically talking about the Red 18 story. Never looked back from there.
@@JordanJMyers You and me both. I used to catch that hour almost everyday, but haven't for at least 7 years. Podcasts completely wiped them out, especially with shows like Pat's where I can get info and entertainment.
To be honest though…his growth has stagnated though. With the NFL pushing for younger audience his barstool bro kinda shtick wears thin in that demographic. Don’t get me wrong still super successful, and power to them, it;s awesome what they’ve done but his subscribers has plateaued especially compared to someone like Shannon Sharpe.
@VinegarAndSaltedFries I think Shannon benefitted greatly from a few viral moments but is likely going to plateau as well. Willing to be wrong, but who knows.
@@theunlikelysuccess well everyone plateaus eventually but without question Club Shay Shay has seen more growth and especially in a broader audience which is what ESPN wants. Unfortunately I think PMS has hit a wall. Loyal fans will continue to prop them up as will deals like the Fan Duel and ESPN but altering business forever feels a bit flowery to me. If anything Disney being Coldhearted is what’s changed ESPN forever. I miss the glory years of Stuart Scott. That said I think the future is bright for independent sports media. People like the Fantasy Footballers and Brett Kollman getting access to NFL contacts and Twitch Streamers getting to cover the draft. It’s clear all these leagues are pushing for youth.
@@VinegarAndSaltedFries I can see your point. Pat took Dan Patrick's business model and blew it up. Shannon saw what Pat was doing and put his twist on it also. ESPN is in a tough place, because they don't have the freedom of independent TH-camrs or the monopoly they have enjoyed as they moved forward. Simply put, they have to compete at all levels and a Mother Ship that size can't move too fast.
BS had a lot of fucking nerve saying what he said. I've learned so much from Pats segs with Coach P/AQ Shipley/D Butts. BS just talks and talks and talks and never impart knowledge.
@garrettdickson2939 Simmons is really good on NBA stuff, and he's pretty creative with format and concepts, but he does complain about other media members since he left.
Maybe an homage to DP, certainly not LeBatard. The thunderdome is certainly like the man cave. I feel like he’s more entertaining than DP, but very similar caliber of guests.
@LloydBraun13 He definitely took from DP's model, but he tweaked it. As for LeBatard, I can see the correlation but it's different. LeBatard approaches things as a journalist, similar to Dan, whereas Pat has never claimed to be journalistic. He's using their format mixed with a barbershop style of commentary.
@birgermunter5638 I think he is wrestling influenced, so you give the fans what they want to see, but I don't think he is a one-trick pony. All good though, thanks for watching!
Imo Pat is more of the same just slightly different. His show was better before the ESPN deal. N the way he talks about other shit (specifically other sports) that he clearly has no knowledge of is annoying.
@phatsurtain I think SAS wants to be the best talent on ESPN and within sports media at large. He's a pretty driven guy who has seen a ton of success, not one of my favorite voices in media but can't deny what he's done.

He also gives away millions AAAAAND MILLIONS of dollars every year.
Bob and Tom
Yeah, my next week's are definitely Bumped AHT with the boys on vaca.
Come on pat bill simmons was kinda on point, we love pat for it but I was laughing
He wasn’t even close to being “on point”. You and Bill clearly do not watch the show.
@LloydBraun13 Bill had a point, but he was also being petty. Bill might have a little envy of the freedom ESPN is giving Pat vs what he got there, but idk.
Pat has neutered the woke POS ESPN.
@MB-ed2qj he has definitely gone against the current.
The delusion is strong in SAS. To say he’s the best and nobody deserves more is patently absurd. He, many times, participates in engagement farming or is an edge lord (to use modern lingo).
Just like Rogan he admits he's a stooge so people can relate
@bubbaballer88 his business acumen is a treasure in itself. I'm sure it's a team, but those folks deserve a big hand in his success.
@No_Dice_Leroy Pat has followed a lot of what Rogan does, and mixed in his personal touches.
Happy to say I found this dumb show in 2018ish during highschool. Pat and the whole gang crack me up on the daily.
Same I was a sophomore in HS in 2018 sitting in study hall next to my buddy who told me to watch this clip of McAfee doing standup, more specifically talking about the Red 18 story. Never looked back from there.
Also funny how Wilbon killed him for retiring and doing podcasts. Look who's laughing now lol
@JordanJMyers Wilbon probably wants that take back lol
@@theunlikelysuccess For sure. I used to watch PTI everyday, along with Around the Horn. Haven't watched either in years.
@@JordanJMyers You and me both. I used to catch that hour almost everyday, but haven't for at least 7 years. Podcasts completely wiped them out, especially with shows like Pat's where I can get info and entertainment.
Simmons feels so threatened and LeBatard is delusional. His show was awful.
@sza3434 I haven't ever been a LeBatard fan either.
Whaaat
SA is so annoying now
$80 m net worth
@daytonwoodford4386 Not too bad.
@Edramos2324 I think Bill was taking shots because of the Kimmel stuff.
Ever since bill simmons got fired by espn all he does is bitch about espn
@garrettdickson2939 Simmons is really good on NBA stuff, and he's pretty creative with format and concepts, but he does complain about other media members since he left.
Didnt McAfee just copy Dan Patrick's and Le Bastard's format?
Maybe an homage to DP, certainly not LeBatard. The thunderdome is certainly like the man cave. I feel like he’s more entertaining than DP, but very similar caliber of guests.
@LloydBraun13 He definitely took from DP's model, but he tweaked it. As for LeBatard, I can see the correlation but it's different. LeBatard approaches things as a journalist, similar to Dan, whereas Pat has never claimed to be journalistic. He's using their format mixed with a barbershop style of commentary.
Hes a onetrickpony, over time i got fed up with the speedtalking, taking 98 percent of the talk, poor AJ
@birgermunter5638 I think he is wrestling influenced, so you give the fans what they want to see, but I don't think he is a one-trick pony. All good though, thanks for watching!
You still watched just to hate😂 I got a feeling i just found a real one-trick-pony in these comments
@@BillzPlays naaw, i dont hate, I just leave
@@birgermunter5638 oh youre even dumber than i thought. Take care

Linear television lmao
Right? It's a pretty lame brag.
Linear TV? oh.... that thing no one uses anymore?
@jasontwills12 that clip was within the last 12-18 months also, so it's not like it was from years ago. LOL.
Imo Pat is more of the same just slightly different. His show was better before the ESPN deal. N the way he talks about other shit (specifically other sports) that he clearly has no knowledge of is annoying.
It's bc regular sports media got political and they all said the same stuff. Pat did it his own way
@douglastaylor43 Very true.
Pretty sure SAS was talking about someone not being better than him on his OWN show, not all of ESPN analysts in general?
@phatsurtain I think SAS wants to be the best talent on ESPN and within sports media at large. He's a pretty driven guy who has seen a ton of success, not one of my favorite voices in media but can't deny what he's done.
the ringer sucks. pat is cool. end of story...seeya bill simmons.
Dan LB is the worst
Bill Simmons whoever the fuck that is
I hate jimmy kimmel so much. I laughed everyday i saw him crying
@Beast12369 He changed so dramatically.
