I am nostalgic tonight watching all Finn... This version (so happy to experience every version) of this song, really hits me hard in the chest... Seeing Paul Hester... I hope he can see and know that he is still loved by so many. RIP Paul.
I'm a huge fan from Illinois neil finn and his brother are amazing love it i play drums have for a long time as a musician it doesn't get any better than that
These guys apart are fantastic artists and so talented, but together they are unsurpassed, great harmonies, they complement each other. I have always loved thier work, back in the Enz days, right through to today...Owesum!!
These are our boys, from Te Awamutu, New Zealand - BRILLIANT! We were in the UK on our OA - we'd bought a campervan which had the old tape for music and we had no music until we found a CROWDED HOUSE - WOODFACE tape at a market - WONDERFUL this song will always remind us of our fantastic European travels!
This song just has so many memories. This album was the crowdies pinnacle vocally. The loss of Paul Hester was a loss to the Australian music industry and to anyone who loved the Crowdies music. I could listen to these guys for hours.....wait...I still do.
i have heard songs from great musicians..we all have...the vai's, satriani's, hendrix but then the guitar on this makes my heart sing man. it just cheers me up. great song. Listening to all versions of it
Gawd I love this! It IS sad to see Hessie back there and think about the personal turmoil that he, apparently, lived through. Great memories of how much I loved this band in the day. Interesting that any collaboration between the brothers is a true "Brylcreem moment" anymore!
He wasn't on the original recording but he is in quite a few live videos performing this. It's the last time that Paul played with the Finn brothers before his death.
Growing up in the Waikato we knew about the "crazy" Finn boys from Te Awamutu. Just goes to show what being different and doing what you love can lead to.
R.I.P. Hessie. I spent some time in Elsternwick Park last week and sat for a while near where you left this world. I also suffer from depression and it terrifies me I'll get to that point. I truly hope you've found peace from those Demonds mate.
@alfonsorusso84 I'm pretty sure this was actually in support of the Finn Brothers album "Everyone Is Here" - it's not a Crowdies performance because Nick's not there. Hessie I think presented this show and it's a lovely and poignant performance as a result. I get a little teary when I hear him nail those backing vocals, that's for sure.
oh the finn brothers ...who is the best singer in this song? neil? tim? allso there is paul with his backing vocals where is the bass man ? what a combo "great stuff"
@13Palmerston Hold on, friend - just hold on and don't give up. I've been there too, and there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, even if you can't see it yet. There's ALWAYS something to live for.
And to think in a few months later Paul commited suicide. Thanks for posting this beautiful memory of a talented guy doing what he did best. RIP Hessie.
Absolutely, but I think they have just mixed it not as well live, mostly from and that has no reflection on crowded house or FB themselves, I was merely complaining about the way Music Max has mixed it from (1:39). Brilliantly performed though as expected.
@thegrapegeek It's a nice thought - but given the utter shock Neil seemed to be in when news got back to him in the UK, I honestly don't think he had a clue. By all accounts Hessie was very good at hiding his feelings behind jokes and clowning around a lot of the time. It's always special when the original guys behind the song play it together - note Neil smiling to himself at 1:43 when Paul's backing vocals come in exactly where they always were.
Sorry I don't share your opinion on the mix...the video is obviously compressed and therefore sound quality is affected somewhat but even the original by Crowded House has the electric out front and the acoustic buried a little further in the mix.

Both Neil and Time have been loved by THIS guy here in the U.S. for 20 years +. Their contribution to music is unfounded.
Such a complicated brotherhood.......but we are fortunate they shared it with us.
RIP Paul you legend.
These are our boys, from Te Awamutu, New Zealand - BRILLIANT!
The Finns, Crowded House, Split Enz are always amazing live. This is a particularly great rendition.
these guys never disappoint. They are the real deal.

Great musicians
Saw them in Belfast a few years ago and they were just AWESOME.
Great musicians
The greatest songwriters are often the best storytellers as well .. and Neil Finn is definitely up there with the best ...

Neil and Tim Finn with the late Paul Hester on drums.
This is just so brilliant and how great it is to see Hessy loking so happy here? :-)
Hessie's harmony at the end - so fscking bittersweet...
A new video of this fave tune for me. Thanks Neil and Tim!
Wow! Good video for a song from my favorite Crowded House album...
Lovely ❤
Great song, great performance of it. I haven't seen too many videos with Tim, so this is a nice treat.
He wasn't on the original recording but he is in quite a few live videos performing this. It's the last time that Paul played with the Finn brothers before his death.
What a beautiful 12 string guitar!
Reversed an old Maton

These brothers sound so good together :)
Magic
On the Woodface tour, they played a small (1000 capacity) club in st louis. Greatest concert ever.
Amazing Bro's
Damn they are soo good live!

Wonderful groove!
SO good!
@stevemcarthur1981 ...it's about 3 months before his death and his last ever performance with Neil and Tim.
Astonishingly good
These guys are the best! Paul could lay down some tasty drums parts. R.I.P.
You totally owned that dude. Good job, mate :)
Sublime...
Fantastic stuff, best thing since Lennon and McCartney
@noteatpig2getha Thank you very much! So this should be Paul Hester's last appearence with Crowded House? This is really sad...
I think I wore out the Woodface cd, if that's possible. Not a clinker on that disc
Nick wasn't a part of any of the Finn Brothers albums/tours - he was producing and playing with another band around the time of this show.
It was November (22nd?) 2004.
oh the finn brothers ...who is the best singer in this song? neil? tim? allso there is paul with his backing vocals where is the bass man ? what a combo "great stuff"
Awesome! But rip hessie... Miss u much....

Love this group. Thanks to my Kiwi friends for the intro!

And to think in a few months later Paul commited suicide. Thanks for posting this beautiful memory of a talented guy doing what he did best. RIP Hessie.
@alfonsorusso84 ...you're welcome, and yes. this is Paul's last performance with Tim and Neil.
When this was recorded?Thanks!
reminds me of the ub40 brothers.
@alfonsorusso84 ...November 2004 (not sure of the exact day)

Does anyone know the make of guitar neil is playing in this is?
those Finn boys are pretty damn good ain't they?
nb - should read "Neil's son" (Liam)
Sorry I don't share your opinion on the mix...the video is obviously compressed and therefore sound quality is affected somewhat but even the original by Crowded House has the electric out front and the acoustic buried a little further in the mix.
222 likes, 1 dislikes - oh well it took 5 years for someone with no taste to stumble accross this.
Why do people from Canada keep saying "1 view ?"
AUSSIE NATIONAL TREASURE BAND
"Thanks, noteatpig2getha! "
You're welcome....thanks for having good taste - I hope you're still enjoying the Finns. Have you heard Tim's son Liam?
Not sure ...but it looks the same as the guitar Hart is pictured with in a Wikipedia entry
It so sad seeing paul at this age knowing he's not going to live much longer
I want one of those twelve string electric guitars. Anyone know what type of guitar it is?
think it's called a Maton Fyrbyrd, rare australian, very few made from the 60s
@itzjoeymac Yes, the Finn boys are pretty...and damn good ;D
