Torally agree .Writes sensible yet very emotional hits that remain classics and should rwmain classics forever and beats the shit out of endleass crap talent shows do8ng depressing karaokes and fuck all else!!♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
It can happen mate, had a 12 hour shift, listened to on repeat, got fed up. Everything can happen, so maybe, just maybe, we can get all world wankers other office, normies could develop a filter, pigs fly. Anyway fed up a this now, so there's hope for everything, no.
There aren’t enough superlatives to describe just how superb that performance was. Raw unadulterated talent at its peak. One man, sorry genius, and his guitar. If ever a melody raises the hair on the back of my neck it’s this. Utter bliss. Thank you Neil. x
J. effing C. its just perfection. youre right, i cant express. i cant get over how awesome his talent is. this deserves the 1 billion + views that plenty of other subpar songs get
27 yrs and counting. No stupid outfits. No twerking. No 50 dancers on stage. No auto-tune. No lip syncing. Just an artist, his guitar and a timeless gem. I wonder... in 27 yrs, will people still be looking for the stuff that's out there right now?
Amazing. Earlier today, I was at a really dark place. Now I'm crying tears of joy that I'm still alive and can listen to this beautiful piece of music. Thank you!
"one of those days when i wondered what i did right"..... you lived neil, thats wat u did right mate. its an absolute pleasure to be another human bieng who lives at the same time as you and hears what u create.
Magical version of a perfect song. Whenever life gets me down this melodic masterpiece will pick me up, for this song gets me dreaming and there is most certainly hope wherever there are dreams. Thanks for the music neil for without it the world would be a darker place. Don't ever let them win.
Who can say where a song falls as #1 or #100 of all time. Critics are men and women like all of us and where they place a song is always an opinion of the listener. The point is, it's great music. Yes, I said we are all men or women, there is no in between. If we have a scrotum we are men, if a Vagina a woman. Why many make things so complicated? It's one or the other period. You can tell me or anyone else your opinion but THAT is all it is, it doesn't change the facts and I for one will call it as it appears. I don't care about opinions, only the facts. Enough said.
@@robertjohnson3855 With your point on the man and woman issue, I 100% agree with you. But why was that necessary to bring up in the comments of a music video?? Seems a bit irrelevant!
There's a mysterious perfection to this song. As a whole, I can't really pin down what it's "about." It IS dream-like. It's a magic carpet. It wants to carry you away in the best sense.
Still listening in 2020...'Don't Dream Its Over' is timeless poetry. 'There is freedom within, there is freedom without, try to catch the deluge in a papercup...' is simpel a sentence of pure genius. It shows the strong songwriters skills of Neil Finn.
One of Those Songs ... you know those songs ... the ones that you remember hearing for the first time ... and you just know it is something special ...
this is soo beautiful, lyrics and melody are divine...got the Best of Crowded House as a gift in my 2nd year of university...1993?? And loved it on contact and it has stayed with me thro life and grown and lived with me..couldn't be without it now...it covers every possible human emotion in such a bared to the bone but emotionally intact manner...adore it and pas it on wherever I can.....
This man is immortal. This song will never be forgotten. Humans have two natures; the one is to take; the other is to give. They come to build a wall between us but they won't win because the good in us keeps us inseparable from one another. Don't dream it's over. We are stronger together.
I had the very good fortune of attending a Crowded House concert sometime in the late 80's. My friend Mike was working as a DJ for a radio station in Santa Barbara while finishing his studies at UCSB and comped some tickets from the station manager. Now, I knew a little about the band, but I had no idea how incredibly talented these guys were prior to seeing them perform life. I was, to use an overly employed term but in this case perfectly apt description, blown away. And more than the music itself, Finn was funny, charming, and very humble in his interaction with the audience. As for this song, there are very few hits you can come back to again and again that hold their initial impact; "Don't Dream It's Over" has stayed with me for 30 years, and its mystery continues to resound through the changes in cities, friends, and lovers that have come and gone.
So right! I attended their final concert in front of the Sydney Opera House and the emotion during the playing of Don't Dream It's Over was incredible. For Aussies and Kiwis it's like an anthem. So beautiful.
I'm starting to think that people who thumb down a song like this are doing it because in fact it is so powerful and real that it reminds them of their own life and suffering... so it doesn't shelter them as it does so many of us...

This song is amazing. It makes me feel like i can forget everything in the world and just feel so incredidbly happy. To combine emotions like that into a song is talent.
This has to be maybe my absolute favourite song. I can’t put a name to the feeling I get whenever I listen to it… it’s somewhere between devastation and elation
Fabulous version. Takes me back to summer barbecues in New Zealand - someone always pulls out the guitar and eventually plays this. South Pacific influence really shines through here.

I didn't realize how good this song was til I had heard it for 25 years. One day last month, it got stuck in my head for like 3 days. And I am the biggest critic, but can find no flaw and it makes me cry because it's so damn good.

I wish I had Neil Finn's talent. Great guitar player, fantastic vocalist and above all an outstanding songwriter. This performance is pure gold.
Couldn’t agree more - I come back to this performance again & again. Sheer perfection ❤
One of the very best songs ever written. Period.

One of the very best songs ever written. Full stop.
So true.
Absolutely incredible tune.
🙌👍✌️
No pro tools, no voice pitch box, just a man with a unique voice and a gift to capture a feeling of liberation and release.
Thank you for summing up what were thinking of Neil 👍👍👍
This very likely was mixed in pro tools. It’s just the industry standard for mixing.
Hey now!! 🥺🤭
Keep it simple. He's a good singer and guitarist.people analyse too much nowadays everythings a big deal.
Neil Finn is such a terrific singer. He doesn't get anywhere near enough credit for how sensational his voice is.
Genius musician. 💯
Yeah he does
Im Australian, my husband was New Zealander, i miss him every day,
This song is so well-written, it's a masterclass of songwriting. Genius.

@@Phoeagdor My comment was written 11 years ago. Still listen/watch that series of videos of this gig on a regular basis......... but not on repeat!
One singer, one guitar...when you do it right, nothing else is needed.
True
And some electronics to add a drop of reverb to the vocal.
Some microphones, speakers, a mixing desk and a power source also helps.
There aren’t enough superlatives to describe just how superb that performance was. Raw unadulterated talent at its peak. One man, sorry genius, and his guitar. If ever a melody raises the hair on the back of my neck it’s this. Utter bliss. Thank you Neil. x

This song was one of the best ever written. A simple MASTERPIECE.
Song of my youth, beautiful and bittersweet at the same time. Brings back memories of longing and regret. But still beautiful.
He took an amazing song and made it even a little better. Not an easy thing to do.
27 yrs and counting. No stupid outfits. No twerking. No 50 dancers on stage.

beautifully stated Tony -- this is the perfect fusion of talent, poetry and gorgeous music
Magic Tony, Neils voice is pure brilliance.
A pearl in a modern world of musical swine. Thanks Mr. Diaz. Well stated.
Neil's songwriting and guitar playing are also brilliant.
tony diaz So true. Great assessment. Never tire of this awesome talent
Just an absolute genius! Amazing track stripped back to pure brilliance.
One of the best voices in rock that I have heard.
Masterpiece that will live on for centuries.

In the paper today, tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the tv page
A simple line that speaks volumes.
What a trio!! Crowded House, Aztec Camera and 10cc. singers. WOW!!
From a programme called songwriters circle. All the shows were memorable, just a pity only a few were ever made.
One song I won’t even attempt to cover sitting with my guitar. It’s perfect. I enjoy it with closed eyes and a grateful heart.
one of the most underated songwriters of the last 30 years Neil Finn
One of the greatest songwriters we have seen.
That was a gift. Wonderful performance Neil.
I’ve cried during the first time I’ve heard this version.
Amazing voice. Super. You handsome singer Niel.

Love this version, love this song, love his voice.

Was that the one at the Arlington, with Roger McGuinn opening? AMAZING show.

Every beautiful thing you expressed…

Wow! By far the best version of this amazing song that I've ever heard.
Best version of this wonderful song I ever heard. Simple, elegiac and heartfelt. Can't beat it.
When you strip it down to a one person performance, and it is every bit as good as TV, you got best.
Magical moments are so rare in life just like this song
