There are 2 things that play a role in memory overclocking. The connection between the CPU & RAM/ the signal integrity, and the BIOS optimizations. Both of those things have nothing to do with the chipset.

13th gen is just binned 12th gen with a raise in e cores per sku … kinda disappointing and not what they where planning but meteor lake wasn’t ready so there’s kinda a chance that 14th gen might be same socket 1700 and 1800 are same socket as far as I can tell… idk Intel doesn’t tell anybody anything about future products so there is no telling.
But like I figured when alderlake was released if you got a i7 or i9 you will most likely not need to worry for 5 years we are at a point with CPUs that they aren’t going to get a lot faster, of course zen4 showed us it basically was barely better than 5000… and when they release the larger cache versions to get better gaming performance they most likely will sacrifice some of there regular workload performance like the 5800x3d … so at this point if you bought a alderlake on release Bravo you got 3 years of best performance possible without any upgrades needed.
I love how the AMD fanboys brag about the fact they had to update 5 times on one socket to be competitive as if that’s a win … imagine you finally buy a 5800x after having a 2000 then 3000 to just a few months later have AMD say ohh yeah here’s a 5800x .2 that’s 5 percent faster in gaming hahaha. Man I’d be fucking pissed honestly but not the AMD fanbase they take it on the chin if INTEL would of did the same thing everyone would of been like what a money grab… but AMD does this and everyone on TH-cam comments sections can only take AMDs dick out there mouth just to tell everyone how great AMD are for gifting the world with a new $500 cpu, 6 months after telling everyone this is the last $500 cpu you will ever get for this platform … that would be like in 6 months from now Intel releasing a 13900kx with 5-10% ipc mainly in gaming you’d be pissed. Haha I just think it’s funny on both sides but the AMD fans are the funniest by far they are like emotionally attached to the company like it’s a personal friend.
I have a couple ryzen builds myself and I have 4 Intel PCs also.. it’s kinda whatever does the job and is best performance for the money for what I’m doing with that machine…

    • @Henningberlin94
      @Henningberlin94 ปีที่แล้ว

It´s not binned, it has improved "3rd gen Superfin transistors" which gets you 200 Mhz more at same voltage by design. Plus more cache. It has more cache, higher clock speeds and better efficiency at same clock speeds. Plus some extra E-cores. Pretty decent for a 1-year-refresh.

Buying an old i9-12900K that has AVX512 instruction set for Playstation 3 emulation isn't worth it. The IPC for the Golden Cove P-cores is so big that a 12700K is enough and will outperform Zen 3 and a R7-5800X3D, games will run better than a real PS3.
Note: you want 8 P-cores, they are faster than 6 P-cores for RPCS3, if you run God of War 3 on a 11900K (with 5.4GHz and AVX512 enabled), it outperforms the entirety of Zen 3 (perfect 60fps) but CPU load is 100% at 720p. That's how CPU intensive it is (the emulator has some optimizations but it likes 8 fast cores too).
i7-12700K is the sweetspot. You get 8 P-cores matching the perfomance of 11900K with OC and AVX512, plus the extra 4 e-cores while you have a huge efficency improvement, better gaming, better thermals and productivity. There are versions with AVX512 too but it's so difficult to find and honestly not worth it.

You showed that IPC is essentially identical, yes...by clocking both processors at the same clock rate. However, out of the box performance of the 13700k is superior to the 12900k because it has a higher clock rate. It also has higher headroom to overclock. I'm easily running a 13700k at 5.6Ghz with no voltage mods. It also shows that both processors were able to keep a 4090 churning at ITS limit which it why you're seeing similar results for both. You're witnessing the 4090 being the bottleneck, not the processors.

    Excellent stuff.
I think all the big boys have things wrong. Nvidia, Intel, AMD all released new power hungry products. In some cases, more expensive. Outside the bubble - a lot of people expended too much money on tech, and spending again in a recession and in a power problem is I think going to show in sales - or lack of. The other killer is that for many people, once they are beyond the old 4/4 core/thread area, they have effective compute. Its going to rapidly become not the area people spend in.
I am sad about that, its not a place to be with tech enthusiasm. But 300W processors and 600watt GPUs is just in the wrong place at the wrong time :(

Pretty interesting comparison regarding the IPC... you've earned a sub! The only saving grace I see for the 13700K, is that on average they *should* be able to clock slightly higher on average given the Intel 7 node maturity / core refinement... so that's probably where we're going to see improvements. Oh, and the fact that out of the box RPL supports higher official memory frequencies than ADL... your case of being able to run 7600 on your 12900 isn't necessarily going to work for everyone's... but is probably almost more likely to happen on RPL due to the aforementioned refinements.
    If I was on a 12900K, I probably wouldn't upgrade mind you...

Wouldn’t upgrade unless you or doing multithread workloads regularly…
If this is for gaming it depends do you have a rtx3090 or better GPU already??
If not upgrading your GPU will always give you more performance increase in gaming than your cpu.
You have a very good CPU you should have a 4090 before I’d upgrade my cpu if I was you haha … pcie 4 and 5 or moot as far as nvme speeds not really worth it but you should have pcie4 anyway and it’s still as good as anyone needs you should be golden for another 5 years honestly unless you just want the best , people shot on Intel 10th and 11th gen but it was the best for gaming still AMD 5000 merely caught up finally and 12th/13th gen barely topped AMD so you might be 10% slower in 1080p gaming at the very most id imagine and if you game at 1440p maybe 3-5% slower and 4k dead tie hahaha Moores law is way dead with CPU single core workloads.
Intel had that shit pretty tapped out in 2014… hahaha it’s been 5% incremental arms race since then with AMD being 5 years behind till literally 5000 series.

Good video. They are the same but one is an i9 and one is an i7 that is newer and cheaper. That's the difference. You get an i9 for i7 price. I never thought the 13700k was faster than the 12900k, I just know it's cheaper. Rule #1 of PC building: NEVER replace your CPU every generation. Only replace your CPU until you need to replace it. I upgraded this week from a 9700k to a 13700k. That was four generations and the 9700k is still strong, if the 9700k wasn't lacking hyper threading, I wouldn't have upgraded yet.

Could you also push frequency on the cores and ring to the max on the 13900K? I know that we‘re likely close to already maxing it out with 12900K speeds, but some games like Spider-Man RT still seem to care and the jump to 5.8/5.1 GHz or maybe even more on the ring at least still has potential to scale in some games. Thanks a lot for all the testing!

I play Spiderman with RT and get mostly smooth high FPS but in some cases experience severe stutters when swinging low to ground. I game on an OC'd 10980xe, always wondered if Alderlake or now Raptorlake would eliminate the stutters completely. I‘m still on a 9700K and currently saving for a new CPU, but if there is any chip/ram combination that can make that game smooth it‘s the 13900K with well-tuned DDR5. Although I usually don‘t recommend some random benchmark channel on TH-cam there is one guy tests the new Raptor Lake chips stock, but does so including Spider-Man with RT and the difference between the 13900K and the lower tier ones is quite significant in the 1% lows despite the 13700K already running at decent speeds out of the box. Channel is called Benchmarks for Gamers and this is the video I‘m talking about:
      th-cam.com/video/r_hEx3uVnXM/w-d-xo.html
So very consistent in the frame time graph, 1% lows consistently above 100 fps and that‘s stock with mediocre memory. Once you add properly tuned M-Die or A-Die it will be even better. This game really scales with everything including clocks and additional cache.

@@ledooni Spiderman is weird though, it typically only starts stuttering for me after an hour or 2 of gaming, not immediately. So while it may look smooth in benchmarks, I don't know that it won't stutter had they actually played the game for a number of hours.
