Faceless Menace Upgrades | Sultai C19 Deck | Kadena | $100 Budget Deck Tech | Magic the Gathering

On BudgetEDH we build fun and optimized commander decks with a pre-set budget in mind. In this week's episode we upgrade the Faceless Menace Sultai deck from the new Magic the Gathering set, Commander 2019. We upgrade the deck using Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer as the commander that we build around. We will take advantage of Kadena's card draw abilities while playing our cards at instant speed. We will fill the board with face down creatures, play a sneaky play style and morph our creatures when our opponents least expect it!

I agree that Pendant of Prosperity doesn't belong in this deck, BUT it'll go GREAT in a mind control type deck with creatures like Agent of Treachery, or enchantments like Volition Reins where you give it to your opponent and then immediately take it back. Then all of the sudden a 2 cmc activation cost of letting YOU draw 2 cards and put 2 lands onto the battlefield is PHENOMENAL!!! A must have staple in mind control decks!

One suggestion: can you make a list of only the upgrade cards? I got the precon at my LGS but I can't easily buy the upgrades from your link because that has all the 100 cards.

Of the commander options in the Faceless Menace deck I think that Volrath will be the most fun to build a deck for. Kadena is fine, but I feel that she is too linear for me

I agree. She’s linear, but there is so much support for the morph theme in the deck, that with only taking out 15 cards you almost have to go that route. I plan on building Volrath for myself, so I’ll probably toss up a deck tech at some point :)

@@BudgetEDH I'm anxious to see your Volrath build. It's a bit janky, but with Liquimetal Coating, Karn the Great Creator, and Experiment Kraj, its possible to copy any permanent including Planeswalkers and Enchantments

Why did you leave "Explore" and "Urban Evolution" in the deck?
Most of the time explore does not guarantee your additional land drop.
One could argue that it is cheap ramp but i think rampart growth is better ramp.
And urban evolution is 5 mana for 3 cards and an additional land. In my opinion you don't need to ramp on turn 5 anymore and you should already have your drawengine up and going.

It would be easier that when you say a $100 deck tech upgrade it means the upgrades are $100. The pre con price is a given. Rather see a $100 with of actual upgrades because if you want the deck to run decent and put up a decent fight that’s how much it will cost a minimum

Dream chisel is worthless in this deck. The main idea is to play the morphs for free.

The Problem with Thieving Amalgam is if the card is that you could have a creature out of your colour and there is just 1 land that does this. It would be better to have at least 3 lands or artefacts that can do this.
Is it right if i am manifesting a planeswalker and want to turn it up with Primordial Mist second ability it get's no loyality counters cause it was not cast as a planeswalker, it was manifested. Am i right?
Also if i a am accidently manifesting the Hydra which is in the deck X-Costs will always be Zero if it was manifested with Temur War Shaman.
I mean this cards are great in the deck but they have their downsides.
