I think Kadena as a commander is EXTREMELY underrated. My gameplan for her is to use reduced card cost+ flash enablers (Vedalken orrery, leyline etc). Casting a free morph on every opponents turn. Throw in seedborn muse (and similar cards) to go absolutely wild. All this while, while drawing cards. Protect your board with all the blue low cost counter morphs (there's like 5-6 of them.) Throw in the cloud curio and/or words of wind, and constantly counter+ replay your morphs facedown. Locks like the pickle lock (vesuvian shapeshifter+ brine elemental) will pretty much lock the game. Add some graveyard returns (like elixr of immortality type cards, idk) to refill your deck if you need it. Finally, throw in some sneaky wincons. Blight steel Colossus, phage etc. Use scroll of fate or something similar to put em there and then flip em up.
For people who want to try a go tall rather than go wide there's Sagu Mauler, Krosan Cloudscraper, and Krosan Colossus. Just pack a way to give them evasion or trample. And a few flicker/blink effects.
While I see the point made early on about mana cost, that instant speed interaction really gives an edge for wincons that can be enabled at instant speed. I had an ainok survivalist face down while a 4colour omnath had a retreat to coralhelm scute swarm combo on board (would keep flickering a land). The moment he started the combo I responded by destroying retreat to coralhelm and immediately stopped the combo.
Ugin does NOT manifest cards, and he does NOT trigger Kadena, he exiles them face down and creates 2/2 Spirit tokens. That being said his cost reduction is wonderful for the deck. You touched on how important Kadena was, but you never talked about redundancy for her! What do you think? I have one slot for 2 cards. Wilderness Reclimation (don't own, but cheap enough to obtain) or Awakening (own it, not in use, but not sure if giving opponents extra mana for instants is too big of a down side for being able to untap on every turn).
