- On BudgetEDH we build fun and optimized commander decks with a pre-set budget in mind. In this week's episode we upgrade the Primal Genesis Naya Preconstructed deck from the new Magic the Gathering set, Commander 2019. We upgrade the deck using Ghired, Conclave Exile as the commander that we build around. We will fill the board with tokens, populate them and alpha-strike our opponents to win the game. We even included a secondary win condition in the deck!

Druid's Deliverance won me the game the other day. My friend was playing his Kalia deck and had the Hellkite that when it deals combat damage to a player, you can pay X to destroy their creatures with that CMC. No combat damage meant no free token destruction.

Back when I played Naya tokens with Gahiji. One really great card I used was Mouth // Feed. it gave me a token at 3 mana and acted as a much needed draw spell later. I think it is a perfect fit in Ghired

Just wanted to put out there that the doomed artisan sculptures can be populated by ghired and his effect allows the sculpture to come in tapped and attacking thus bypassing doomed artisans effect. I'm not sure I would keep it in the deck but for precon metas that can be a very powerful tool.
Tectonic hellion works in landfall decks with the artifact that returns lands from the graveyard

I, usually, imprint Cliffside Rescuer onto my Soul Foundry so I can pump out all the protection I need.
Of the Primal Genesis commanders I like Marisi, Breaker of the Coil the most. I've recently built a Thantis the Warweaver deck and the two commanders have similar strategies. So it's interesting to see how the two compare with each other
I like Marisi a lot too. Been thinking about building him myself!

I replaced my commander with Rith The awakener. Pretty good upgrade in my opinion and if you add in Skull clamp after that you have a great draw engine.
You just replaced the commander or have you done other upgrades ?

Anyone else try skullclamp/ infiltration lens? Think they’re great additions for low cost draw in a deck that wants to grow army/ attack more
Godo seems like a bit of an odd choice. two total equipment hits in the deck, and no samurai.
You could also use a combination of combat celebrant boros charm and Ghired. If you make a copy of celebrant you have an infinite loop.🤭
For some reason am not sold on oketra for this deck...
If only her ability triggered with creatures entering the battlefield instead...
Great video. I wish there was a list of JUST the upgraded cards (since if you own the deck it's not so easy to just get a purchase list of new cards). Also does the 100$ budget INCLUDE the precon as well or no?
It does include the cost of the precon in the $100. Thanks for the suggestion on the list of just the upgrade cards. I can definitely do that for future videos.
@@BudgetEDH Awesome, yeah I think having a list helps people (such as myself) easily add them to purchase just the extra cards if we already own the precon.
i really dont think Druids deliverance should be removed. its not a guarantee that youll have the bigger creatures and the populate is something i wouldnt want to give up. plus it combos well with alot of the cards in the deck.
Where's seance? What about sundial of the infinite? Nobody talks about the sundial but with red token generation it's absolutely amazing

Helm of the Host transforms this deck into something nasty. Godo is ideal, but just putting it on Ghired..... Nasty stuff. But it works well on a lot of things in this deck with these modifications.
Are there any non budget upgrades recommended?
I'd look at upgrading the manabase. You could make the deck a lot faster by adding shock lands and more untapped sources to the deck.
I run a sneak attack package with things like worldspine worm and wurmcoil engine that leave behind tokens, creature copies like flameshadow conjuring and bramble sovereign along with sac outlets for value like greater good and momentous Fall. Works really Well, especially if you can copy and populate a worldspine worm copy off flameshadow conjuring.
Flamerush rider has probably earned the mvp spot for me personally. You can dash him in, making him immune to sorcery speed removal and you can stack his attack trigger over Ghired, copying any creature you have, populating that copy and having the populate copy stick around.
Also, if you manage to make an aurelia the warleader token copy, you get infinite combat steps

I like this deck a lot but I disagree with a few of your cuts. Hate Mirage can be insane in the right situation. Druids Deliverance says prevent all damage that would be dealt to YOU. It’s not a full fog. So if someone craterhoofs and is trying to kill the table, you can hold up Druids Deliverance and not die. But your opponents will.
Some of these add ins are hella pricy, makes your mana average go above 4 lol. Not ideal for fast play

The quicker route/ redundancy is combat celebrant for the same outcome

I wish they were in budget! They’re all great cards, but cost too much to fit in our $100 budget.
$100 is not budget
The precon deck is included, so it's 60$ for the upgrades. Many 'budget' upgrades use 50$ as well for new cards. There is a 15$ card suggestion, skip that and you are around 45$, which is reasonable. If you still can't afford that, you might stick to the precon anyway or just pick less of the upgrade cards. Or ask your fellow players if you can use proxies. '100$ is not budget' ist just narrow minded, just find a way to upgrade that suits you, nobody forces you into anything, he gives free advice.

@@BudgetEDH , Well, let's start first of all i don't truly believe you understand the best use of populate..., i mean sure you can use Tendershoot Dryad and make a 3/3 Saproling enter the Battlefield and you can populate that instead of the 4/4 trample Rhino, the real question is why would you do that?..., with populate you want interesting and powerfull tokens, you want quality, not quantity, going wide is still a thing Populate does but is better using it to go Big, now for the cards i will address them by the order they were mentioned:
The ones that go in:
-Tendershoot Dryad: Maybe, why go wide when most of the time going big is what you want, not a terrible card, just not my first option.
-God-Eternal Oketra: Almost, as much as a 4/4 vigilance token sounds attractive having to first cast Oketra and then a creature is too high when you stop and consider that 80% of the creatures in this deck are Big/Expensive creatures, again, not something on my radar.
-Ommnath, Locus of Rage: An interesting pick and an actual si-deck choice if were to use Wish. A better commander than a 99.
-Avenger of Zendikar: This is more for a Landfall Deck, but an actual personal consideration until you realize that without the original "lord/anthem" effect a 0/1 is most times than none is bad, the same thing that happens with Tendershoot Dryad.
-Anointed Procession: Agree.
-Aurelia, the Warleader: I prefer Aggravated Assault.
-Zendikar Resurgent: You don't cast enough creatures to make running this that good, the mana doubler is a better reason to run this, but for that mana cost, im not convinced.
-Guardian Project: Same as above.
-Greater Good: I'm more convinced about the utility of this than Guardian Project or Zendikar Resurgent.
-Generous Gift: Yeah, i can see this working.
-Eladamir's Call: Agree.
-Heroic Intervention: High on cost but woth it, considering that you are trying to be effective with your budget i would not include it only to put other more powerful things.
-Boros Charm: Not that convinced but if you are looking for budget upgrades, sure.
-Godo, Bandit Warlord: I prefer Agravated Assault.
-Helm of the Host: Now the inclusions of Godo and Aurelia make sense, still the power level of the combo is quite low especially with Godo, it would need a form of evasion, as all infinite combos one should not underestimate the potential of it, i'm still preferring agravated assault, personal preference and all that.
The ones that go out:
-Cliffside Rescuer: Agree.
-Scaretiller: Yes.
-Hate Mirage: Yes, but i would like to add that this card has a lot of potential, especially in this deck.
-Tahngarth, First Mate: Agree.
-Tectonic Hellion: Agree.
-Voice of Many: Agree.
-Doomed Artisian: In my personal opinion one of the most underappreciated card of the whole deck, it indeed requires a lot of set-up but its potential is one that has a high roof, once you manage to pull it off it becomes one of the better new card, still i can see why you would take it out.
-Fresh meat: Yeah i can see it being not as useful i still think it is a good card for this deck.
-Commanders Insignia: it happened the same with the lieutenant cards, and now a lot of people are searching for them.
-Slice in Twain: Agree.
-Roc Egg: Agree.
-Heart Piercer Manticore: remember that your game plan with this deck is to have big creatures that don't really matter if they die, just have that in mind, otherwise i can see you phasing this out over a better card...
-Druid's Deliverance: if you have a better Populate card, yeah.
-Kazandu Refuge and Graypelt Refuge: only taking this out for better Duals, otherwise it can mess up your mana-base, i would take first basics, just 2.
Finally, search Bramble sovereign and God-Pharaoh's Gift, they are very good cards for a populate deck in general, Dual Nature and Flameshadow's Conjuring are good considerations too if you reached this far thanks for reading and most of my thinking was made late-night yesterday so i forgot most of it, i hope you find this useful, wishing this finds you well.
